Abstract

Es wird ein Verfahren zum Abschrecken von metallischen Werkstücken in einem Ofenraum, insbesondere unter überatmosphärischem Druck, wobei als Abschreckgas(gemisch) ein Inertgas oder Inertgasgemisch, insbesondere Stickstoff, Argon und/oder Helium verwendet werden, nachdem das metallische Werkstück in einem evakuierten Ofenraum einem Wärmebehandlungsprozess unterworfen wurde, beschrieben.
Erfindungsgemäß wird vor dem Einleiten des Abschreckgas(gemisch)es in den Ofenraum dem noch evakuierten Ofenraum Wasserstoff zugeführt, wobei dem Ofenraum jedoch nur soviel Wasserstoff zugeführt wird, dass, abhängig von dem Abschreckdruck, der Gastemperatur am Ende des Abschreckprozesses und der Zusammensetzung des Abschreckgas(gemisch)es, eine Wasserstoff-Konzentration in dem Abschreckgas(gemisch) unterhalb der Explosionsgrenze erreicht wird.
