Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method of encapsulating a topical composition in a fracturable capsule.
- a field of application envisaged is in particular but not exclusively that of tufts containing cosmetic compositions of the cream type.
- the tufts have been used for a very long time in cosmetics for the deposition and spreading of rice powder on the face. They are generally housed in the lid of the box containing the powder and the sample is taken by pressing the puff against the powder reserve.
- a tassel has been devised in which the product to be coated adjoins the applicator, in a small tank capable of be easily opened, including a dose for one application.
- Such tassels are difficult to produce in the context of automated production, in particular the preparation of the capsule forming the small reservoir.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a process for the production of capsules which can easily be opened containing the composition to be coated.
- Another object of the present invention is to propose the application of the process for producing capsules for making tassels, containing the composition to be coated, for single use.
- a method of encapsulating a topical composition in a fracturable capsule consisting of at least a first deformable film, impermeable to said composition comprising the following steps: it is elastically deformed, during a first step, at least part of said first film so as to constitute at least one pocket; said topical composition is injected during said second step into said pocket; applying, during the third step, a second film impermeable to said composition on said first film so as to close said pocket; sealing, during the fourth step, said second film and said first film around the periphery of said pocket, said part of said first film being capable of shrinking, after release of said capsule, whereby the pressure in the capsule is higher at atmospheric pressure; and during the production of said capsule at least a portion of lower mechanical strength is created at least in said pocket whereby the capsule is capable of being fractured, by means
- the sequence of steps for producing the capsule makes it possible to produce a capsule, according to an automated process, the mechanical properties of which respond perfectly to the problem of opening said capsule, which is carried out by a simple pressure between two fingers, and whose production costs are kept at an acceptable level.
- the process consists, in a first step, in constituting a cavity with an elastically deformable film which by nature is plane, and into which the topical composition is introduced which will be spread over the skin.
- the cavity is kept in shape during the steps of filling, applying the second film and sealing.
- the first film substantially retains the shape which has been given to it since the hermetically closed capsule contains said composition.
- the pressure exerted on the composition is equal to atmospheric pressure plus the pressure induced by the elasticity of the film.
- the capsule opening system is provided by a localized weakening of the mechanical strength of the film constituting the bag.
- the pressure exerted on the capsule creates an internal pressure causing the piercing of said capsule at the place of weakest resistance and the release of the topical composition. It is understood that the pressure to be exerted on said capsule is all the more effective in releasing the composition that it contains the greater the internal pressure of the capsule, induced by the film.
- said part of first film constituting said pocket undergoes a plastic and elastic deformation so that said part of first film partially shrinks after release of said capsule, whereby the pressure in the capsule is at least equal to the atmospheric pressure.
- the sealing joint when the two films are assembled around the periphery of said pocket, the sealing joint comprises a portion of narrower width to constitute a portion of lower mechanical strength.
- the opening is made at the portion of the sealing joint of lower mechanical resistance, at the interface between the two films.
- a portion of said portion of said first film constituting the pocket is locally transformed so as to constitute a portion of lower mechanical strength.
- the particularity of this mode of implementation lies in the fact that the opening of the capsule is made on one face of said first film and not at the interface with the second film. It is possible in this configuration to eject the topical composition in the center of the capsule and not necessarily on the sealed contours of said capsule.
- a depression is created between a part of the first deformable film and an imprint so as to apply said part of film against the internal wall of said imprint to form said pocket.
- this wall has orifices allowing the air to be sucked in.
- said first film and said second film are sealed by means of an ultrasonic device.
- This embodiment has the advantage of only melting the parts of film in contact, and of not comprising a thermal source which risks degrading the capsule or its container.
- the encapsulation method according to the invention is applied to the making of tassels.
- at least one first foam plate is applied and secured to the external wall of said first film to form the tassels.
- a layer of foam is applied in order to spread said composition over the skin.
- the foam is secured to the capsule, by the edge of the two films sealed together,
- a second sheet of foam and / or textile is applied to the external wall of said second film.
- a protective film constituting a cover, is applied to said first foam plate.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic view in longitudinal section of the encapsulation installation and making tassels continuously.
- a first film 2, wound on a reel 4, is capable of being unwound in the direction of the arrow F through an installation for making capsules 6.
- the film 2 is moved sequentially in the direction of the arrow F, the corresponding sequences at the time of production of the capsule 6.
- a vacuum pump 8 is actuated so as to suck the film 2 into the cavity 10 constituting an imprint.
- the cavity 10 has holes drilled in its wall for the passage of air so that the film 2 is pressed against said wall.
- the plastic film is relatively elastic and, under the effect of the suction, it tends to deform to match the shape of the imprint without folds appearing around the periphery of the pocket 14 formed by the film part. 2 which is sucked.
- the film 2 can be made of polyethylene, or polyether, but it can also be made of polyurethane which has the advantage of being very elastic compared to other types of film.
- the spout 16 consists of a bent tube 18 hinged at one end on a swivel connector 20, so that it can be retracted between the steps of filling said pocket 14.
- a plunger metering pump is provided in a tank for storing the topical composition. The pump is actuated when the end of the spout 16 is placed directly above the pocket 14 formed by the film part 2.
- the spout 16 is pivotally actuated at the connection 20 so as to be moved away from the bag.
- a second film 22 superimposed on the film 2 is capable of being displaced along the arrow F.
- the film 22, of width substantially equal to that of film 2, is wound on a reel 24.
- the film 22, during a third step, is applied to the film part 2 so as to cover and close the bag 14 containing the topical composition.
- This third step is carried out jointly with the fourth step of sealing the two films 2 and 22, by means of an ultrasonic device 26.
- the latter is actuated vertically according to arrow D and applied to the two films 2 and 22 along the periphery of the cavity 10 on the edges of the imprint.
- the two films 2 and 22 are compressed, between two substantially circular metallic elements, around the periphery of the pocket, and under the effect of vibrations of the ultrasonic type (greater than 20 kHz) that the two metallic elements print on the two films 2 and 22.
- the latter are joined together by localized fusion.
- the capsule 6 has a portion of less mechanical resistance at the level of the sealing joint between the two films 2 and 22, to allow its opening.
- the vibrating metallic elements in contact are pressed on the periphery of the pocket between which the two films 2 and 22 heat up.
- Said metallic elements have in one part at least a narrower contact portion than on the entire periphery of the pocket.
- the weld at least in this portion is it less wide than in the rest of the periphery of the pocket, which constitutes a portion of lower mechanical strength.
- the capsule is pressed to break this portion of lower mechanical strength and the topical composition is released.
- the capsule has a portion of lower mechanical strength on a part of said first film, which constitutes the pocket.
- the sealing of the two films can also be carried out by means of so-called high frequency techniques which have the advantage, like ultrasound, of not heating the environment in which they are used.
- the films used to encapsulate the topical compositions are relatively fragile, and a device of the soldering iron type would tend to overheat a more extensive surface of film, and would also risk degrading the topical composition contained in the capsule.
- the material of the films used 2, 22 is obviously thermoplastic, without which welding would be impossible.
- the device 26 When the required welding time is reached, the device 26 is raised vertically along the arrow R so as to release the two films 2, 22 thus welded.
- the capsule containing the topical composition is thus hermetically closed.
- the operation of the vacuum pump can be interrupted so as to release the capsule from the cavity 10 in which it is located.
- the film 2 which has elastic properties, retracts and exerts a certain pressure on the topical composition, which, when the capsule is opened, tends to be released more easily.
- the deformation is more or less elastic.
- the joint scrolling of the two films 2, 22 can take place in the direction of the arrow F, so as to separate the capsule 6 previously produced and to proceed with the production of a new capsule.
- the capsules are thus connected together by the two superimposed film strips 2 and 22.
- the advance of the films is therefore sequential, and the capsules are formed so that the distance which separates them is sufficient to carry out the subsequent operations of making the tassel.
- the installation includes peripheral equipment for making the tassel.
- a cookie cutter device 32 is located directly above the strip of capsules 34 at a distance from the cavity in which the pockets are formed multiple of the distance which separates two capsules. This arrangement makes it possible to make the tassel for the time necessary for the formation of the capsule.
- a padding foam 36, an application foam 38 and a protective cover 40 are simultaneously applied.
- an application foam 38 and a protective cover 40 are simultaneously applied.
- the foams 36, 38 and the cover are applied in strips during the continuous process of encapsulation and making of the tassel.
- the padding, application foams and the film constituting the cover are applied to the external wall of the pocket constituting the capsule. Then the upper part of the cookie cutter 32 is applied and forced on the lower part 42 to cut to the desired shape all of the elements constituting the tassel.
- the cookie cutter 32 includes a device for welding, simultaneously with cutting, all of the edges of the different layers so that the tassel does not have an edge capable of injuring the user.
