Abstract

An apparatus for holding and dispensing metered doses of an active composition into a washing, drying or dishwashing machine has a supply chamber which holds at least double the amount of an individual dose of the active composition. A dispensing chamber is connected to the supply chamber by a passage in order to receive an individual dose of the active composition and to discharge the composition by way of a discharging passage. The closing of the passage between the supply chamber and the dispensing chamber, either beforehand or simultaneously, is actuated by means which are activated by conditions inside the machine, existing exclusively during a washing, drying or dishwashing cycle. The passage between the supply chamber and the dispensing chamber is re-opened and, beforehand or simultaneously, the discharging passage from the dispensing chamber is closed, so that the dispensing chamber can be re-filled from the supply chamber.

Nach Beendigung des Betriebszyklus wird das Wasser aus der unteren Wasserkammer 15 langsam über kleine Löcher 18 abgelassen und der Abgabedurchlaß 17 der Dosierungskammer 13 wird verschlossen.   2. Device as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the fluid flows out of the fluid reservoir (3) into the expanding mechanism (5) due to the fact that the fluid reservoir is compressed directly or indirectly by the action of the laundry or drying load.
  3. Device as claimed in claim 2, characterised in that the opening/closing mechanism (7) is preferably a slide valve.
  4. Device as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the fluid flows out of the fluid reservoir (3') into the expanding mechanism (5') due to the fact that a pivotably mounted weight (30) applies pressure to the fluid reservoir (3') due to the rotation of the device with the washing machine or dryer drum.
  5. Device as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the opening/closing mechanism (7') is a float valve.
  6. Device as claimed in one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the re-setting mechanism (11; 11') is a return spring.
  7.   8. Device as claimed in claim 7, characterised in that the means (18) incorporates small holes.
  9.   10. Device as claimed in claim 9, characterised by a rigid compartment (22) containing a material (23) which expands when exposed to a temperature increase and shrinks on cooling.
  11. Device as claimed in claim 10, characterised in that the material (23) is a wax.
  12. Device as claimed in claim 10 or 11, characterised in that a ram (25) for compressing the dispensing compartment (20) is lifted by means of a flexible diaphragm (24) reacting to the expansion of the material (23).
  13. Device as claimed in claim 9, characterised by a bimetallic unit which bends when exposed to a temperature increase and is restored on cooling.
  14. Device as claimed in one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the supply compartment (1; 12; 19) is designed so that it can be re-filled from outside.
  15. Device as claimed in one of the preceding claims, characterised in that it is fixedly secured in the interior of the machine but can be released.
