Definitions

  • lollipops made of a material such as rubber, comprising a central nipple intended to cooperate with the tongue of a child or infant. These lollipops are generally provided with a plate intended to come to bear on the surface outer lips, and a gripping ring.
  • pacifiers The main function of these pacifiers is distraction and soothing of the child (as their Anglo-Saxon name clearly illustrates "to pacify”). he there are also sophisticated models of pacifiers allowing perform an ancillary function, such as administering an active ingredient that the child swallows while sucking the nipple of the pacifier.
  • pacifiers can be a relatively effective solution to the child's immediate nervousness problem, they can however have extremely harmful effects on the evolution of the form from the child's mouth: a well-known problem is in particular the creating a gap between the upper and lower incisors, because the central nipple is an obstacle to the development of the incisors of the child.
  • pacifiers consist of elements intended to statically distribute the forces resulting from suction. It is such lollipops may be less harmful to the mouth of the child that conventional pacifiers with a central nipple intended to be engaged between the middle parts of the lower arches and superior; however, these lollipops are just one answer imperfect to the causes of oral malformations.
  • the skull facial may not grow enough so that the jaw lower excessively back from the upper jaw, or that teeth insufficiently eroded due to lack of movement side of the jaws tend to block the jaws due to the nesting of the teeth of the upper jaw with those of the lower jaw.
  • Hybrids appearing like a lollipop reproducing certain characteristics of orthodontic aligners and fitted with a grip for the child. Examples of such devices can be found in documents FR 2 595 046 (Giordanno) and EP 400 217 (Bergersen).
  • An object of the invention is to meet this need.
  • the invention provides an infant pacifier or for children, comprising a tray on which the arches rest and defining a bite plane, said plate being limited towards the front by a vestibular screen on which at least one arch stops in a desired position, said plate being secured to projecting means towards the front out of the mouth, pacifier characterized in that it comprises a nipple protruding from the rear of the tray, said nipple being intended to cooperate with the tongue to stimulate a movement analogous to that of the feeding.
  • Figure 2 shows the same rear pacifier in rear elevation.
  • This figure shows the nipple 20 located at the rear of the plate 10.
  • This figure also shows the vestibular screen 40 already described in reference to Figure 1, which is located above the tray.
  • the lollipop also includes a second vestibular screen 45, which extends also in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the plateau from the region of the front edge thereof, below said tray.
  • FIG 3 which is a longitudinal longitudinal sectional view of the pacifier of figures 1 and 2 makes it possible to visualize in particular the positions of the two vestibular screens 40 and 45: we see in this figure that these two screens which are located vertically on either side of the plate 10 do not extend in line with one another.
  • the upper screen 40 is slightly advanced compared to on the lower screen 45, defining between the rear faces of the two screens a offset ⁇ of the order of 2mm.
  • This discrepancy which also appears on the Figure 4 is intended to promote good relative positioning of the arches upper and lower, the upper arch should be slightly more advanced than the lower arch to allow the teeth of the arch upper to overlap the teeth of the lower arch.
  • the vestibular screen 45 extends in the extension of the screen 40 according to the direction perpendicular to the plane of the plate 10.
  • the tray 10 is as we said intended to receive on its two respective sides the upper and lower arches of the child and defines thus a bite plan. It must be as thin as possible so that its thickness does not disturb the closure of the mouth. In practice, the thickness of this plate is substantially equivalent to the thickness of the plates of the orthodontic aligners, i.e. of the order of a millimeter.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates the positioning of the pacifier according to the invention in a child's mouth.
  • the branches of plateau 10 extend back to the location of the molars, the position is marked with dotted lines. This ensures that the faces of the tray cooperate with the entire length of each arch.
  • the child's lips come to rest on the front sides vestibular screens 40 and 45 respectively. This support constitutes a stress on the lips and strengthens their tone, which contributes to overall stimulation of the stomatognathic system.
  • the connecting part 30 between the plate and the nipple is elastic, to allow the nipple to move backwards when it is requested by the child's language while constantly recalling said nipple towards the tray (towards the front).
  • This elasticity of the connecting part 30 can be obtained by making this part in a plastic more elastic than the material of the plate 10 and nipple 20, or by designing the geometry of this part so that it has a narrowed section, or by putting in works any other known means such as a connecting part 30 which can be move longitudinally with respect to the table and which is associated with a spring, as taught in document EP199 005 (Rodam SA).
  • the elasticity of the connecting part 30 makes it possible to strengthen the motivation of the child to interact with the nipple, which has a behavior dynamic close to that of the breast.
  • the distance between the nipple and the back of the tray is adapted so that the nipple is facing the rear of the language, in order to allow good cooperation between the language of the child and the nipple.
  • vestibular screens on the front sides 40 and 45 protruding pins to further strengthen the tone of the lips which come to rest on these front faces.
  • Figure 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the pacifier according to the invention, in which the plate 10 is associated not only with a screen vestibular 40 on its front edge, but also on another screen 80, substantially parallel to the screen 40, extending from the rear edge of the tray.
  • the upper face of the tray 10 a gutter to position the upper arch of the child.
  • the screen 80 which extends from the rear edge of the tray can be protruding only upwards as shown in FIG. 6, or else on both sides of the shelf plane to also form a gutter on the underside of the tray with the lower vestibular screen 45.
  • the lollipops described can be manufactured by any known means in itself; the pacifier can thus be produced by molding a plastic material or rubbery to constitute a sub-assembly formed by the plate 10 and various screens which extend from its edges, from the connecting part 30, nipple 20 and connecting portion 70, plate 50 and ring 60 being assembled with the rest of the pacifier in a later step.
  • the invention can also be implemented in a bottle nipple, as shown in Figure 7.
  • the plate 50 and the grip ring 60 are replaced by a ring 100 intended to be fixed on a bottle and by a hollow dome 110 coming from material with the part 70 for connection with the plate.
  • the other elements of the teat are similar to the elements used in the pacifier, except for one longitudinal channel 90 which runs right through the plate 10, the part 30 connection and the nipple 20 to connect an orifice 91 opening into the internal cavity of dome 110 which overhangs the bottle and a second orifice 92 opening onto the surface of the nipple.
  • Figures 8a and 8b show two embodiments of the nipple 20.
  • the nipple of Figure 8a has a classic spherical shape.
  • the nipple in Figure 8b has a flattened shape on top, so to facilitate cooperation between the top of the nipple and the child's palate.
  • the nipple can also have any ergonomic shape, for example a flared shape on the sides of its upper part in order to cooperate effectively with the lateral parts of the child's palate.
  • the invention is intended for infants and young children. It is thus possible to provide different sizes of teats depending on the size of the child's mouth.
  • a pacifier intended for a newborn baby must include a tray compatible with arcades with the greatest width (measured at the back of the arch) is around three centimeters; in this case the spacing between the two rear ends of the vestibular screen 40 which are substantially opposite one another will therefore be slightly greater than this size, the two ends of the screen framing the rear ends of the arch.
  • the length of the arch is the order of two centimeters; the plate 10 can then have a length comparable or even slightly better.
  • tray 10 can also extend only in the front part of the child's mouth, teeth located at the back of the arches, which generally do not grow before the age of three years.
  • the plate 10 will extend approximately 1.5 centimeters from each side of the central axis of the nipple (while the screen 40 can be extend further back).
  • the width of the plate 10 can be of the order of 5 millimeters in the middle region of the plate (width I1), and, if the plate extends backwards from the arches (especially for children three years old and more, which corresponds to the representation of FIGS. 10a and 10b), of around 8 millimeters towards the ends of the plate (width I2), so that the width of the plate corresponds to that of the teeth or arches.
  • the width of the tray 10 which is as we said around 5 millimeters in its region median is reduced on the underside of the tray, by a value corresponding to ⁇ .
  • the pacifiers or teats according to the invention can be made by one-piece molding of a plastic material (such as rubber, silicone ).
  • a plastic material such as rubber, silicone .
  • the thickness of the plate 10 which is of the order of millimeter, is adapted to mechanically resist the action of the teeth and arches, and in particular not to be pierced with use, but it must be reduced as much as possible so as not to encourage a gap between arcades.
  • the nipple 20 which, as has been said, must extend opposite the back of the child's tongue, may have a length L of the order of 2.5 centimeters, and therefore extends backwards so that its edge back or about 3 centimeters behind the screen 40.
  • This nipple typically extends towards the back of the teat in projecting beyond the rear of the U-shaped branches of the plate 10, said branches may extend in the case of a pacifier intended for a child over three years ( Figures 10a and 10b) about 3 centimeters behind the screen vestibular 40, while the nipple protrudes by about 5 millimeters the back of these branches.
  • the height h1 of the upper vestibular screen 40 can be of the order 8 millimeters, and that of the lower vestibular screen 45 may be around 5 millimeters for a child under three years of age (height h2 on Figure 9b), and on the order of 8 millimeters for an older child (height h2 'in Figure 10b).
  • Figures 9a to 10b show that the pacifier comprises not only vestibular screens 40 and 45 which extend from the front of the plate 10, but also a screen 85 which leaves from the rear edge of the plate 10, with an oblique orientation extending downwards and towards the rear, thus forming an angle of around 45 degrees with the plane of the tray 10.
  • the height h of such a screen 85 (i.e. its maximum measurement in a longitudinal section plane of the nipple) can be of the order of 6 millimeters.
  • the nipple may have a substantially round geometry for the purpose of above, in order to fill the child's mouth as a breast would do when breastfeeding.
  • the nipple thus has the general shape of a circle about 2.5 centimeters in diameter.
  • This nipple can extend not in line with the plan of the plate 10, but at the top forming an angle of about 30 degrees with this plane, so that the nipple at rest extends backwards along a length of the order of 2.5 centimeters, and towards the top of a height of the order of 1.5 centimeters.
