Description

The invention relates to a connector according to the preamble of claim 1.

Usually, in such a connector, the plug contact is soldered to the terminal contact during assembly. Although this ensures a reliable electrical connection between the two contacts, but also increases the production costs. There are also known connectors in which the plug contact or the terminal contact is provided with a socket and the other contact part with a pin which can be inserted into the socket. However, this only allows a plug connection when a socket is used as a plug contact.

From the DE 196 06 505 A1 a plug having the features of the preamble of claim 1 is known. Here, the first insulating body is the main body of a diagnostic connector, and the second insulating body is a contact module that can be interchangeably attached to the diagnostic connector and contains the contacts that are connected to the contacts of the device to be read. If the contacts of the diagnostic connector are worn out, the contact module is replaced with a new one.

The object of the invention is to develop a connector such that there are low production costs while still reliable electrical connection between the two contacts. The connector should continue to allow a modular design, so that with a few components a variety of applications can be covered.

For this purpose, the invention provides a connector with the features of claim 1. The two spring tabs allow by their elasticity, over long periods of time to maintain a desired contact force between the plug contact and the terminal contact. This contact force is higher than with the use of socket and pin, since instead of a surface contact, as occurs in the prior art, adjusts a linear touch or even point contact. The tab can be formed with very little effort when it is at the corresponding contact to a flat contact, which is punched out of a sheet, for example, a cutting clamp, which serves as a terminal contact for a connector to be connected to the cable.

It is preferably provided that the insulating body is provided with at least one guide pin, which ensures the correct orientation of the insulator, so that a specific polarization of termination and plug contacts relative to each other is reliably maintained.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that one of the insulating body is a housing of the connector and the other insulating body is an insert which is accommodated in the housing. In this design, a particularly cost-effective production, since only the two insulators must be equipped with the corresponding contacts and finally the one insulating body in the other must be used, with a locking connection can be used to set the insulating body in the housing. When inserting the insulating plug and the terminal contacts are plugged into each other, without further steps are required. So far, such an assembly was not possible because during assembly, the terminal and the plug contacts had to be soldered together.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims.

In the FIGS. 1 to 4 a connector according to a first embodiment is shown. It has a first insulating body 10, which simultaneously forms the housing of the connector in this embodiment. The first insulating body has a plurality of receiving slots 12, in each of which a terminal contact 14 is inserted. By terminal contact is here understood a contact which is intended to be connected to, for example, a conductor of a cable. In the embodiment shown, the terminal contacts 14 at its terminal end as insulation displacement terminals 16 (see Fig. 2 ), in which the conductor of the cable to be connected can be pressed, so that the insulation displacement cut through the insulation of the conductor and the contacting takes place automatically. At their end facing away from the insulation displacement terminals 16, the contacts are each provided with a tab 18 whose function will be explained later. Between the insulation displacement terminal 16 and the insertion tab 18, each terminal contact is provided with a locking tab 20 so that the terminal contact when in the receiving slot 12 in the direction of the arrow P of Fig. 2 is inserted, indissoluble locks.

The first insulating body 10 is formed so that a receptacle 22 is formed, which surrounds the insertion tabs 18 of the terminal contacts 14. In the receptacle 22, a second insulating body 24 are used, which with plug contacts 26 (see also Fig. 3 ) is provided. A plug contact is here understood as a contact which is intended to be brought into engagement with a contact of a complementary plug connector. This may be, for example, a socket contact or a pin contact.

The second insulating body 24 is provided with a plurality of receiving holes 28, in which the plug contacts 26 are inserted so that they engage therein. Each plug contact, in the embodiment shown, has a socket section 30 into which a pin contact of a complementary plug connector can be inserted, and two spring tabs 32 which are separated from one another by a slot and are each subdivided into two spring segments.

On the second insulating body 24 a plurality of locking lugs 34 are provided, of which in Fig. 3 only one can be seen. At the first insulating body 10 complementary configurations are provided, where the locking lugs can engage. On the first insulating body 10, a plurality of guide pins 36 are also formed, which can engage in complementary guide openings 38 on the second insulating body 24.

The connector is mounted in the following manner: First, the terminal contacts 14 are inserted into the receiving slots 12 of the first insulating body and the plug contacts 26 in the receiving bores 28 of the second insulating body 24, so that they respectively engage there. Then, the second insulating body 24 is inserted into the first insulating body 10, wherein the guide pins 36 together with the guide openings 38 ensure the correct alignment of the two insulator to each other, so that a special coding is achieved. When inserting the second insulating body 24 in the first insulating 10, the spring tabs 32 of the plug contacts 26 are pushed onto the tabs 18 of the terminal contacts 14, so that there is an electrically conductive connection between the terminal contacts 14 and the plug contacts 26. When the second insulating body 24 is fully inserted into the first insulating body 10, snap the locking lugs 34 on the first insulating body 10, so that the two insulating bodies are firmly connected. This condition is in Fig. 4 to see; the spring tabs 32 are completely pushed onto the tabs 18 of the terminal contacts. The connector is then fully assembled.

Apart from the particularly simple installation, which consists only of several plug-in operations, which still take place in the same direction allows the structure described a particularly variable production, since different insulator can be combined with different contacts in the manner of a modular system.

Alternatively to the attachment of the terminal and the plug contacts by snap can also be provided that the contacts are either only loosely inserted into the receiving slots of the first insulator and the receiving holes of the second insulator or inserted there with a press fit. The final determination takes place only when the second insulating body is inserted into the first insulating body.

In the Figures 5 and 6 a connector according to a second embodiment is shown. The second embodiment is similar to the first embodiment in terms of the design of the two insulating body 10, 24. The difference from the first embodiment lies in the configuration of the connector between the insulation displacement terminals 16 and the plug contacts 26th

In the second embodiment, each insulation displacement clamp is provided with two adjacent spring tabs 32 'which together form a generally rectangular body portion and a rounded head portion. The two spring tabs 32 'separating slot ends in a circular recess, on the one hand allows the desired elasticity of the spring tabs 32 'relative to each other and on the other avoids a notch effect at the end of the slot.

The plug contacts are provided with a socket 18 'with a circular cross-section for receiving the head portion formed by the two spring tabs 32'.

When the second insulating body 24 provided with the plug-in contacts 26 is inserted into the receptacle 22 in the first insulating body, the rounded head portion of the spring tabs 32 'is inserted into the socket 18' of the corresponding plug-in contact 26. In this case, the head portion and thereby also the body portion are elastically compressed, and there is a secure contact between the insulation displacement terminals and the plug contacts. In contrast to the first embodiment, in which the plug-in tab of the plug contact was inserted between the spring tabs, so the plug contact engages on the outside of the spring tabs.

When the second insulating body 24 is fully inserted into the receptacle 22 in the first insulating body (see Figure 11), the end face of the socket 18 'is located at the transition between the head portion and the body portion of the spring tabs 32'.
