Description

The invention relates to a contact spring according to the preamble of claim 1.

Contact springs for electrical connector strips are provided to make electrical contact with a printed circuit board connected to the connector strip. Currents flowing through such contact springs are usually directed to only one connection point of the circuit board. At higher currents to be guided by a contact spring, however, partial currents must be conducted to different connection points of the printed circuit board in certain applications. Although this can be done by appropriately shaping the conductor tracks on the printed circuit board, it is associated with the disadvantage of space consumption on the printed circuit board. In addition, mechanical damage to the contact lugs of the contact spring making contact with the printed circuit board can significantly increase the electrical resistance of the current path and trigger further damage to the connection lug and malfunctions, even the failure of connected electrical circuit parts.

From DE-A1-34 41 134 two contact springs of a test plug are already known, with which measuring and testing devices are connected to circuits of printed circuit boards. The two contact springs, which are at right angles to one another for polarity reasons and are produced from a sheet metal strip in a stamping process, have connecting parts and contact spring parts connected to one another via longitudinal and transverse webs. The contact spring parts, to which the measuring and testing devices are connected, are arranged in an electrically insulated manner in a double-chamber connector strip (housing). The connecting parts are electrically non-insulated and are used for the electrical connection of the circuit board to the measuring and testing devices is soldered into corresponding receiving openings in the circuit board.

A current distribution arrangement is known from EP-A3-00 54 377, with which high electrical powers are delivered, for example, to printed circuit boards. For this purpose, the current distribution arrangement contains an insulating housing with a U-shaped metallic current distribution frame, for example made of copper, which is detachably arranged therein. The power distribution frame has a multiplicity of connecting lugs which dip into corresponding openings in the housing and can additionally be pressed into receiving openings in the printed circuit board when the power distribution arrangement is attached to a printed circuit board. For the supply of electrical power, a hole is provided on the power distribution frame through which a power supply cable can be attached.

From US-A-4,405,189 a contact spring for electrical connector strips is known, with which a circuit board high electrical powers are supplied. For this purpose, the contact spring has, in addition to a contact spring part, a connecting part with at least two connecting lugs, which are soldered into a corresponding receiving opening in the printed circuit board. The contact spring part in turn serves as a receptacle for a contact pin supplying the electrical power, in which two spring legs laterally grip the contact pin for the necessary electrical connection.

However, it is not known from the above prior art documented in writing to dimension contact springs for electrical connector strips with regard to the electrical resistance.

The invention is based, to build contact springs for electrical connector strips, the task of the electrical resistance and are therefore suitable for higher currents.

This object is achieved by the features specified in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

To form partial currents from a relatively high total current to be conducted by a contact spring, no special conductor tracks are to be provided on the circuit board. If, on the other hand, the partial currents carried separately on the printed circuit board are combined to form a total current, mechanical damage to one of several connecting lugs has less effect on the contact spring according to the invention than mechanical damage that would occur on a single connecting lug of a contact spring. In this context, it is provided that a contact spring part facing a contact pin to be inserted is shaped such that its electrical resistance corresponds to the electrical resistance of the connecting part.

Further advantageous developments of the contact spring according to the invention result from the subclaims and from the following description of an embodiment of the invention.

The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing.

The contact spring shown in Figure 1 for an electrical connector strip has three symmetrical connection lugs 1 arranged to the insertion axis of a contact pin to be inserted. The connection lugs 1 in their entirety form the connection part serving for the electrical connection to a printed circuit board connected to the connector strip. Connector strip and circuit board are not shown in the figures. The connecting part of the contact spring according to the invention can have at least two connecting lugs 1 which can be pressed or soldered into a corresponding receiving opening in the printed circuit board and which serve for current distribution.

The contact spring is preferably formed as a one-piece body, on the side facing away from the insertion opening, the connection lugs 1 are arranged. They are described as detailed below, when using the press-in technique they are bent into a 2-V shape in their press-in area in order to enable the press-fitting into a corresponding circuit board receptacle opening with only a small press-in force and to thereby ensure reliable contacting. The two side legs 3 and 4 forming the V-shaped region run obliquely towards one another towards the free end of each connecting lugs 1.

The contact spring can be shaped in different ways on its part facing a contact pin to be inserted. This part of the contact spring can consist of two spring legs 5 arranged symmetrically to the insertion axis, the shape of which is shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3. The spring legs 5 have on their underside centering lugs 6 which, in the installed state, bear against a centering web with pre-tensioning, as a result of which the spring is pre-opened to reduce the insertion force and is protected against insertion.

The contact spring has a resilient web 7 in the region of the insertion opening, which web is inserted into a correspondingly shaped slot in order to mount the contact spring in the connector strip. At least one dome-shaped latching element 8 presses against the contact spring receiving opening in the connector strip.

The described interaction of the centering lugs 6, the web 7 and the locking elements 8 with the receiving opening of the connector strip enables limited movements of the contact spring against the connector strip when inserting or removing a contact pin, without the hold of the contact spring in the connector strip being impaired. This also compensates for manufacturing tolerances of the interacting parts.

According to the invention, the contact spring is shaped on its part facing a contact pin to be inserted such that its electrical resistance corresponds to the electrical resistance of the connecting part. If the contact spring consists only of a material such as copper, or if it consists at least in its current-carrying area of the same material or of different materials of the same electrical conductivity, the electrical resistance of the contact spring part facing a contact pin to be inserted and the connection part only depend on the formation of the two parts. With the same material thickness, for example with a uniform copper sheet used for the entire contact spring, the electrical resistance depends on the shape of the surface of the current-carrying contact spring parts.

The connection lugs 1 serve to distribute the current supplied by the contact pin and the part of the contact spring facing it. A partial flow of the total flow flows through each connecting lug 1. The partial currents are led via the connection lug 1 into corresponding metallized receiving openings on the printed circuit board, from where the partial currents can be supplied to the intended current-consuming circuit parts on separate conductor tracks. However, individual conductor tracks can also be merged immediately in order to link several partial streams.

The press-in area 2 of the connecting lug 1, which can be V-shaped, for example, is formed by two side legs 3 and 4. Towards the free end of the connecting lug 1, the press-in region 2 is delimited by the side legs 3 and 4 which run obliquely towards one another.

On the other hand, the V-shaped fitting area is limited by collar-shaped widenings. The collar-shaped widenings are used to attach a press-in tool.

When a terminal lug 1 is pressed into a metallized circuit board receiving opening (not shown here), three contact zones arise between the V-shaped profile of the press-in zone and the hole reveal, namely one contact zone on the outer edges of the two side legs 3 and 4 and one contact zone on the bending bead. Due to the opening angle of the V-shaped press-in area, it compresses when pressed in within the tolerances of the diameters of the circuit board receiving openings, resulting in a residual spring that ensures reliable contact. By spoon-shaped boundaries of the press-in area 2 on both sides the terminal lug 1 has the desired rigidity and stability at the same time. The press-in forces can be safely transmitted to the two side legs 3 and 4, since the one end region of the V-shaped press-in region comes to lie between the collar-shaped widenings.

In a contact spring according to the application, the outer edges of the two side legs 3 and 4 of the connecting lug 1 are rounded. At the same time, the side legs 3 and 4 tapering towards one another towards the free end of the connecting lug 1 form a substantially rounded tip which, when the connecting lug 1 is inserted into the circuit board receiving opening, strikes the opening in the center. This ensures that the terminal lugs 1 can precisely and gently slide into the corresponding openings, thereby avoiding unnecessary chip removal from the metallized reveal of the receiving opening arranged in the printed circuit board.

Die nicht bezifferte kreisrunde Öffnung in der Mitte der Kontaktfederoberfläche kann dazu dienen, ein der Verbindung mit der Steckverbindungsleiste dienendes Befestigungselement, wie beispielsweise eine Schraube, aufzunehmen.2 shows a top view of the contact spring with a total of six connecting lugs 1, each having side legs 3 and 4, with spring legs 5, a fastening element 7 designed as a resilient web and two latching elements 8, which have a circular base in the form of a dome. The spring legs 5 shown in FIG. 2 run conically towards the insertion opening and have, at their insertion opening directly facing part, approximately semi-circular, outwardly open deformations which ensure reliable contacting of a contact pin to be inserted with the contact spring. The non-numbered circular opening in the middle of the contact spring surface can serve to serve as a connection to the connector strip Fastening element, such as a screw.

Dabei können die Kontaktstifte länger ausgebildet sein als die korrespondierende Kontaktfeder.3 shows a view of the side of the contact spring facing a contact pin to be inserted, with connecting lugs 1, which have a press-in area 2, with spring legs 5, centering lugs 6, the resilient web 7 and with two locking elements 8 arranged symmetrically to the insertion axis 8. The contact spring can be on it the insertion opening opposite side to be open to receive contact pins of different lengths. The contact pins can be made longer than the corresponding contact spring.

An angle of 60 ° has been found to be particularly advantageous for the side legs 3 and 4. In the contact spring according to the invention, due to its special shape, it follows that the press-in force is equal to the pull-out force, which proves to be advantageous if defective contact springs have to be replaced for some reason.
