  • Fabrics made of high temperature and flame resistant fibers have been very useful in protective apparel. Although many advances have been made in designing comfortable fabrics and garments made from these fibers, there are still certain aesthetic and subjective reasons to desire flame resistant apparel which also incorporate natural fibers. To meet this need, fabrics have been made from combination yarns, that is yarns containing both natural and high temperature and flame resistant staple fibers. Although fabrics made from such combination yarns may be made into comfortable garments, the fabric's resistance to high temperature and flame has been reduced to such an extent that the addition of flame retardants are necessary to enhance the thermal protection of the fabric. Typically flame retardants are applied to the natural staple fibers or the fabrics made from these combination yarns as topical treatments. The addition of topical treatments may add weight and often stiffness to the fabric as well as provide only temporary effectiveness since such treated fabrics tends to lose this protection with wash and or wear cycles.

Claims (18)

  1. Habillement protecteur comprenant une étoffe tissée ininflammable comprenant des fils de chaíne et des fils de trame dissimilaires, les fils de chaíne comprenant des fibres discontinues ou des fibres filaments et ayant un indice limite d'oxygène d'au moins 27, et les fils de trame comprenant des fibres naturelles et dans laquelle le rapport des fils de chaíne aux fils de trame dans l'étoffe est au moins de 1,0.
  13. Habillement protecteur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel l'étoffe tissée contient des fibres de fils de chaíne sélectionnées parmi le groupe constitué des fibres d'aramide, de polybenzimidazole, de polybenzoxazole, de mélamine, de poly(sulfure de phénylène), de polybenzothiazoles, de polyimide, de polyétherimide, de polyamidimides, de novaloid et des fibres modacryliques et dans lequel les fibres de fils de trame sont sélectionnées parmi le groupe constitué du coton, de la soie, de la laine, de la rayonne et de la rayonne FR.
  14. Habillement protecteur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel les fibres de fils de chaíne sont du m-aramide et dans lequel les fibres de fils de trame sont de la rayonne FR.
  15. Habillement protecteur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel les fibres de fils de chaíne sont du p-aramide et dans lequel les fibres de p-aramide ont un module allant de 100 à environ 250 g/dtex.
  16. Habillement protecteur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel le fil de chaíne comprend en outre environ 5% en poids ou moins d'une fibre électro-conductrice.
  17. Habillement protecteur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel les fils de chaíne sont des fibres discontinues.
  18. Bâche ou tente comprenant l'étoffe selon la revendication 1.
