Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to a process for extracting a sweet juice from beet or chicory, and more particularly to an extraction process in which only two successive pressing extraction stages are used.
- the conventional diffusion processes of the prior art employ extractors in which sugar beet chips are passed countercurrently and a high temperature extraction solvent such as hot water, the sugar being extracted by diffusion. without pressing the chips.
- the contact time must be relatively long, which requires extractors of great length and to maintain the extraction solvent such as water at an elevated temperature over the entire extraction zone; for example at a temperature of the order of 70 ° C.
- German DE 736 734 discloses a method of extracting a sugar juice from beets wherein the beets are baked at about 90 ° C prior to the first pass stage to soften the cells.
- the present invention aims to provide a process for extracting a sweet juice from sugar beet or chicory requiring a less expensive infrastructure, a lower energy cost and resulting in a lack of CO 2 discharge in the atmosphere at the level of purification.
- the process of the invention makes it possible to obtain a sugar juice of better quality than the diffusion processes of the prior art since, requiring lower temperatures, the reduced oxidation of the raw material avoids the need for solution of undesirable undesirable products and limits the microbial developments with consequent very low levels of organic compounds in the sweetened juices obtained.
- a process for extracting a final sweet juice from beetroot or chicory comprises only two successive stages of extraction by pressing.
- a first step of extraction by pressing comprises the passage in a first pressing means of a fresh grating optionally supplemented with water or at least a fraction of the second sweet juice producing a first sweet juice and a first pressed raspberry.
- a second step of extraction by pressing comprises the passage in a second pressing means consisting of at least one membrane filter presses and cyclic operation of a second feed mixture comprising the first pressed rasp from the first means pressing and a predetermined amount of water.
- a sieving step of the first sweet juice leads to the final sweet juice and a solid refusal.
- the second pressing means is constituted by several filter presses with membrane plates and cyclic operation, for example two, arranged in parallel.
- the process for extracting a sweet juice from sugar beet or chicory comprises two pressing extraction stages PR1, FP, arranged in series, the first press extraction stage PR1 being fed by a feed mixture A0 containing fresh R0 rapier and outputting a first sweet juice J1 and a first pressed rasp R1, and the second extraction stage FP receiving a feed mixture A1 containing the first raspberry pressed R1 and outputting a second sweet juice J2 and a second pressed rasp R2.
- the first extraction stage comprises a PR1 press, for example a bi-screw type press fed by a G1 flared feed chute, of sufficient size to allow a good feeding of the press and such a perfect balance. as much as possible between the sugar concentration of the cellulosic phase and the liquid phase with a feed mixture A0 containing fresh rape R0 of sugar beet or chicory and at least a part of the second sweet juice J2 from the second stage d extraction by pressing FP.
- a raspberry that is to say a beet raw material or chicory reduced to size particles average of 1 to 10 mm, preferably 2 to 4 mm, unlike the chips usually used promotes extraction of sugar cells by leaching / pressing operation.
- the first rasp pressed and partially depleted R1 from the first press PR1, optionally mixed with a solid rejection recovered from the first sweet juice J1 and a portion J "2 of the second sweet juice J2, as will be seen more specifically below is generally added with a predetermined amount of water to form the feed mixture A1 of the second press extraction stage FP.
- this second press extraction stage which is constituted by at least one membrane filter press and cyclic operation FP, the feed mixture A1 is cyclically filtered and then pressed to obtain a second sweet juice J2 and a second grating.
- pressed R2 which is evacuated for storage and processing usually in livestock feed.
- the filter press FP operates in successive cycles of filtration and pressing.
- a fraction Je2 of the second sweet juice J2 is separated by filtration from the first pressed rasp R1 which accumulates in the form of cakes on the membranous plates of the filter press.
- This first fraction Je2 of the second sweet juice J2 is recovered in a tank B'2 and pumped by means of a pump P'2 to be mixed with the fresh rasp R0 to form the feed mixture A0 of the first stage of PR1 extraction.
- the grating cakes on the membrane trays of the filter press FP are pressed to extract an additional fraction J "2 of the second sweet juice, and the second pressed rasp R2 is removed from the filter -press and conveyed, for example by a conveyor belt, to a place of storage.
- This second fraction J "2 of the second sweet juice J2 is recovered in a tank B" 2 and pumped by a pump P "2 for preference mixed with the first pressed rasp R1 in order to form the feed mixture A1 of the second extraction stage by pressing constituted by the filter press FP.
- the first juice J1 sweetened from the first pressing extraction stage PR1 is collected in a tray B1 and then pumped by means of a pump P1 on a sieve T to separate from this first sweet juice J1 a final sweet juice JS and a solid RF refusal .
- the solid rejection is also mixed with the first pressed rasp R1 from the first press extraction stage PR1 to form the feed mixture A1 of the second press extraction stage FP.
- the sweet juice JS from the first press extraction stage PR1 is recovered, purified and treated in a conventional manner.
- the final juice treated is then decanted and the clear juice obtained is, as is conventional, sulphited then filtered.
- the first pressed rasp R1, the solid RF rejection of the sieve T and the fraction J "2 of the second sweet juice J2 are mixed in a mixer M1, pumped and added with a predetermined amount of water to form the feed mixture A1 of the second extraction stage by pressing constituted by the filter press FP.
- a complementary quantity of water is added to ensure the de-sugaring of the grating cakes in the filter press (from 100 to 500 kg of water / ton of beet).
- This water is generally introduced at a temperature ranging from 30 to 90 ° C., preferably at a temperature of the order of 60 ° C.
- This water can be introduced only at the level of the feed of the second extraction stage by pressing constituted by the press filter FP (desugar function) or can be introduced in addition to the level of the feed of the filter press FP, in several other points of the installation, for example in the tray B "2 of recovery of the fraction J" 2 of the second sweet juice J2 or in the tray B'2 of recovery of the fraction J'2 of the second sweet juice J2, or in the tray Ml.
- the fractions Je 2 and J "2 of the second sweet juice J 2 are used in a differentiated, one could mix these fractions and use them simply to be mixed with R0 fresh grated.
- the described differentiated use of the fractions of the second sweet juice J2 makes it possible to ensure better efficiency in the extraction process.
- a heating step of the second sweet juice J2 may be provided for example by means of a heater to adjust the temperature of the grating in the first extraction stage PR1.
- Mass flow rate of fresh R0 raspberry 1,400 kg / hour Mass flow rate of the first pressed rasp R1: 500 kg / hour Mass flow rate of second pressed rasp R2: 250 kg / hour Mass flow rate of water: 500 kg / hour Mixing temperature: 40 to 50 ° C
