Abstract

A sock with an asymmetrical toe includes a toe region having an edge which substantially matches the shape of the toes to increase comfort for the wearer of a knitted sock. A substantial part of the toe region is knitted all the way through. A method of producing such a sock is also provided.

Description

The subject of the invention relates to a knitted sock with a toe area, the edge of which substantially follows a course of toes, and to a method for producing a knitted sock.

Such a design of a sock is for example by the U.S. Patent 3,217,336 known. This patent discloses that the toe area of the knitted sock is substantially shaped to follow the course of toes when worn. Similarly, a distinction is made between a sock for a right foot and a sock for a left foot.

Although the proposal after the U.S. Patent 3,217,336 has been known for some time, such socks have not prevailed in the market. According to the U.S. Patent 3,217,336 The toe area of the sock is knitted from a single thread.

On this basis, the present invention, the object underlying a knitted sock with a toe area, the edge of which essentially follows a course of toes, so that it has an increased comfort.

A further object of the invention is to provide a method by which a sock can be knitted with an edge substantially following a course of the toes, the sock having an increased wearing comfort. This object is achieved by the features of claim 1 and of claim 7. Advantageous developments and refinements of the sock according to the invention are the subject of the respective dependent claims.

From the U.S. Patent 2,144,563 Socks are known, the toe area is knitted from a Gründfaden and another thread, but the edge of the toe area does not follow the course of the toes.

The knitted sock according to the invention with a toe region whose edge substantially follows a course of toes, is characterized in that the toe region is knitted throughout. This embodiment of the knitted sock according to the invention achieves increased wearing comfort in the toe area, since there are no seams perceived as disturbing in this toe area.

In particular, it dispenses with seams that could come to rest on the large or small toe. These seams are found to be particularly troublesome when a foot clad with the knitted sock is in a footwear closed toe area because the footwear, which is snug, presses the seam against the big toe or little toe.

It should be noted at this point that the term sock also includes stockings. A sock in the sense of the invention is any footwear that is knitted and has a toe area.

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention it is proposed that the toe area is designed so that the mutually inclined edges of the toe area are inclined at different angles with respect to a common base. In this case, preferably, the edge region, which is adjacent to the wearing of the sock of the big toe, more inclined than the opposite edge region.

To further increase the wearing comfort of the sock according to the invention, it is proposed that the toe area be knitted from a basic thread and at least one further thread. By at least one additional thread padding of the toe area is achieved.

Preferably, the at least one further thread is knitted with a higher loop density than the base thread. The sock as such preferably has a continuous ground thread. Due to the higher sling density of the at least one further thread padding of the toe area is achieved by simple means.

The knitted sock is formed in the toe area so that it follows substantially the outer contour of the toes. Accordingly, different contoured socks are necessary for a left foot and for a right foot. In order to facilitate the distinction between a left and a right sock, it is proposed that the sock have at least one optical and / or haptic marking. Preferably, the mark is knitted.

In order to make a knitted sock with a toe area, the edge of which substantially follows a course of toes with the toe area being knitted throughout, a method is proposed in which the sock is knitted on a circular knitting machine. First, a cylindrical section is formed by circular knitting. The cylindrical portion is adjoined by the toe area, the edge of which follows substantially a course of toes. The formation of the toe area in the method according to the invention is characterized in that up to a central area, the number of stitches of the individual rows of stitches are reduced on both sides. Thereafter, the number of stitches of the following courses is increased on both sides. The thus formed toe area is then sewn together.

According to an advantageous embodiment of the method is proposed that in each course, the number of stitches is uniformly reduced. Advantageously, the increase takes place on both sides with two needles each to the end of the toe area.

According to a further advantageous embodiment The method proposes that two courses be reduced on both sides. Preferably, the first two courses are reduced. Following this course of stitches is a course of stitches for which at least two needles are connected on one side by means of an increase finger, so that the number of stitches is increased. These courses are followed by two courses, which are reduced on both sides. The reduction and increase in the stitches in each course is repeated alternately up to a middle area. The increase follows the reverse principle. After every third row, the index finger unfolds on one side, either right or left. Preferably, a standard series is knitted in the middle region.

According to yet another advantageous embodiment of the method, it is proposed that, in a first step, a needle is selectively switched into a row of stitches by means of a modified middle finger at one edge. In a further step, following this course of stitches, a row of stitches is formed, which is reduced on both sides by means of the lower finger. The individual steps are repeated alternately up to the middle area. Thereafter, an increase of the stitches, wherein after every other row by the increasing finger optionally at one or the other edge of a needle is brought into action.

Preference is given to a method in which two needles are brought out of operation on both sides by means of an amended lower finger. With a modified index finger, a needle is brought into action on both sides up to the middle area. From the middle area the Minderfinger are switched off. In the following rows, a needle is brought into action on both sides.

According to yet another advantageous embodiment of the method, it is proposed that two needles be put out of action on both sides by means of a reduced finger. By means of an increase finger, a needle is put into action on one edge, wherein the lower finger is switched off from the central region and in the subsequent courses at least one needle is set in operation on one edge.

The sock 1 is knitted. The toe area 3 is knitted throughout. The toe area 3 has an edge 4, the course of which substantially corresponds to a course of toes. In the illustrated embodiment, the toe region 3 is formed substantially trapezoidal. The toe area 3 has an edge portion 5, which abuts when wearing the sock on the big toe of the left foot. The inclination of the edge portion 5 is compared to a common imaginary base 7, which is shown in dashed, stronger than the inclination of the opposite edge portion 6. The edge 4 is seamless, so that when wearing the sock in the toe area caused by a seam pressure points can not arise so that the wearing comfort of the sock compared to conventional socks is substantially increased.

The sock is knitted on a so-called circular knitting machine. First, an unillustrated cylindrical portion is formed by circular knitting. The toe area 3 is formed by reducing needle to needle on both sides by means of a reduced finger to a central region 12. The increase is in the FIG. 4 clarified by the reference numeral 13. The sock with the toe area according to Fig. 4 is not according to the invention.

By differing reduction and increase, a toe area is formed which substantially follows a course of toes.

One way to train the toe area illustrates the FIG. 5 , The first two rows are reduced on both sides by means of a reduced finger. In the third course will be additional needles, preferably two, switched on. FIG. 5 shows that the needles are switched on the left hand. This process is repeated until the third last row in front of the central area 12. According to a standard series, two needles are again switched on one side, optionally on the right or left, in the last row of the toe center area. The increase follows the reverse principle. After every third row of stitches, the index finger sets on one side, either right or left.

FIG. 6 shows a further development of a toe area. The first row of the toe area is reduced on both sides by means of reduced fingers. In the second course, a needle is additionally connected by means of an increase finger, either right or left. In the illustrated Ausrührungsbeispiel a right hand a needle is switched on. This process is repeated until the penultimate row of the central region 12. Thereafter, at 14 right or left a needle is switched on. The increase of the stitches follows the reverse principle. After every second course, the index finger brings a needle into action. The needle can be used either right or left hand. The opposite side of the reduction continues to work. The index finger brings two needles into action there, as in the right part of the FIG. 6 is recognizable.

Yet another way of making a sock is described below with reference to the FIG. 7 illustrated processing of the toe area explained. Denoted by 12 is a middle area of the toe area around which the opposing areas are folded.

From the middle area the Minderfinger are switched off. In the following courses of the toe area, a needle is brought into action on both sides.
The sock with the toe area according to Fig. 7 is not according to the invention.

FIG. 8 illustrates yet another way of forming a toe area. The illustration shows the toe area as a settlement. By means of a modified Minderfingers two needles are brought on both sides out of action. With an increase finger a needle is brought into action. The individual courses are knitted up to the middle section 12. From the middle section the lower fingers are switched off. In the subsequent courses, two needles are put into action either on the right or on the left. It follows that the slope of the edges is different up to the central region 12.
