Definitions
- the invention relates to an end piece for connecting a vehicle catalytic converter with an exhaust pipe.
- Such end pieces are generally known.
- relatively large outside diameter of the catalyst on the Reducing the diameter of the exhaust pipe is usually between A transition part is provided for the catalytic converter and the exhaust pipe.
- This transition part or end piece is essentially conical, the large opening formed by the outer circumference the catalyst and to the small opening through the inner circumference is formed, the exhaust pipe is connected.
- To connect the exhaust pipe is usually on the conical end piece in the area a flange is welded to the small opening, which is attached to the exhaust pipe arranged flange z. B. can be connected via bolts. Welding the flange to the end piece is cumbersome and time consuming. Since the flange is also available as a separate component, the end piece becomes heavier, larger due to the welded flange more expensive to manufacture and it has a large thermal mass.
- the Flange as a separate component. This not only makes the End piece easier and cheaper because the flange is welded on omitted, but it can also be made lighter and smaller. Furthermore, the end piece consists of fewer individual parts and the heat radiation is reduced due to the smaller surface. Moreover the entire catalyst arrangement is given a more compact design and an improved visual appearance.
- the end piece is essentially bowl-shaped or dome-like and the flange contact surface is formed by the bottom of the bowl or the dome.
- Such Shaping is particularly easy to manufacture and visually appealing.
- the end piece has two shells formed and has an inner shell and an outer shell. This Design leads to a special due to the double-shell training good thermal insulation.
- This thermal insulation can be improved if after a further configuration between the inner shell and the outer Shell insulation is provided.
- a flange which is connected to the end piece is connectable in the area of the flat flange contact surface.
- connection elements provided for connection to the exhaust pipe. This leads to a simple connection between the end piece and the exhaust pipe.
- connection can be simplified even further if after a Further development of the invention, the connecting elements are added in bores are provided in the flat flange contact surface. This measure results in a particularly simple and safe Attachment of the connecting elements, which is integrated in the end piece.
- the connecting elements advantageously have bolts which are connected to the Flange contact surface connected, preferably welded.
- Such Design has the advantage that the connecting elements form an integral part of the end piece and therefore no further separate Parts are needed.
- Bolts are formed and have a threaded part that outwards via the flange contact surface in the direction of the exhaust pipe protrudes, the connection to the exhaust pipe is particularly simple.
- the connecting elements have a head, in the area of the flange contact surface on the inside of the outer Shell rests, in particular is welded to it.
- a gas-tight connection between the exhaust pipe and the end piece to ensure is advantageously between the flange on Exhaust pipe and the flange contact surface arranged a seal.
- the inner shell and the outer shell connected to each other at least in the area of the small opening, preferably by means of a tungsten inert gas weld.
- connection between the Inner and outer shell in the area of the small opening as protruding Edge or web is formed, which is a protective wall for between the flange on the exhaust pipe and the flange contact surface
- the gasket can be effective against thermal stress be protected by the exhaust gas flow. This leads to a longer one Seal life.
- the end piece 10 according to the invention is shown in the single figure, that is basically tapered. It points to one side an outer periphery 13, which has a large opening 12 for connection forms a catalyst (not shown). On the opposite On the side, an inner circumference 15 forms a small opening 14 for connection an exhaust pipe 16.
- the end piece 10 is constructed in two shells and with an inner shell 18 and an outer shell 20, both of which taper and which are coaxially connected. Between the two shells 18, 20 an insulation 22 is arranged.
- the end piece 10 forms a flat in the area of the inner circumference 15 Flange contact surface 17 for connecting the exhaust pipe 16, in which the small opening 14 is provided.
- This flange contact surface 17 forms to a certain extent the bottom of the bowl-like end piece 10.
- To achieve 16 is between the flange contact surface 17 and the Flange 26 provided a flat ring seal 28.
- connection between the end piece 10 and the exhaust pipe 16 takes place via connecting elements which are designed as screw bolts 30.
- 17 holes are provided in the flange contact surface, through which the bolts 30 are inserted so that their heads 32 in the area of the flange contact surface 17, however, on the inside of the Outer shell 20 abut while its threaded parts on the outside over the Project flange contact surface 17 in the direction of the exhaust pipe 16.
- the Bolts 30 are with their head 32 on the inside of the outer Shell 20 welded.
- the seal 28 is applied to the flange contact surface 17, wherein in the Seal provided recesses allow the bolts 30 to pass through. Then the exhaust pipe 16 is welded to it Flange 26 on the flange contact surface 17 or on it located seal 28 and the flange 26 with nuts 36th screwed to the end piece.
- the outer shell 20 and the inner shell 18 are in the area of the inner circumference 15, the outer shell 20 and the inner shell 18 permanently connected with each other.
- the inner shell 18 and on the Outer shell 20 each have a projecting ring web, both of them are interconnected so that a protruding peripheral edge 34 is formed.
- the connection is particularly suitable a tungsten inert gas weld.
- the axially projecting edge 34 a protective wall for the between the Flange 26 provided on the exhaust pipe 16 and the flange contact surface 17 Seal 28, which is not directly flowed against and therefore against impairment is protected by the exhaust gas flow.
