  • the folder / inserter is provided with a fifth electronic marking module 48 placed at the output of the insertion module and which carries out "the affixing of the postal imprint "by registering certain secure franking information provided by the computer 12 in a microcircuit of an electronic tag carried by the envelope or the document (transponder activation operation). The article of mail thus closed and properly franked is then ejected to an output of documents 49.
  • this folder / inserter 16 comprises a control module 50 for controlling the transport of the documents and their folding, the transport and the reversal of the envelopes, the insertion of the documents in the corresponding envelope from orders received from the computer 12 and the affixing of the postal imprint by activating the transponder.
  • FIG. 4 represents a flowchart of the operations necessary for the preparation of a mail item.
  • the transport of an envelope and its printing are then carried out in a step 104, the printing comprising at least that of the recipient's address excluding that of the postal imprint.
  • the envelope thus completed is conveyed through the device 14 and the folder / inserter 16, in a step 106, to the input of its insertion module 46 after being redirected by the module 44.
  • step 112. The transport of a document and its printing are carried out next in an immediately following step 112.
  • a new step 116 is taken or not in a storage intermediate of this document in the accumulation module 40 of the folder / inserter.
  • the printed document or documents are folded by the folding module 42 in a next step 118 and then inserted into the envelope at the module level. insertion 46 (step 120).
  • the mail piece is closed by gluing its flap.
  • the finding is made in a test step 124 which then causes the issuance of alarms both at the folder / inserter than the computer 12 (next step 126) and a stop of the process of treatment is engaged.
  • the processing of the mail item has occurred without incident (yes answer to the test of step 124)
  • it is then proceeded to the writing of the franking information on this article (by activation transponder carried by the envelope or the document) in a step 128 and then checked in a new test step 130 if the processed mail item is the last, which has the effect of causing an ejection of this article of mail to the exit of the folder / inserter 16 and to stop the process of treatment, or on the contrary if other couriers are waiting for preparation. It is then returned to step 102 of selecting the envelope tray for a new operation of preparing the next mail article.
  • the various functions provided by the present invention make it a true office automation machine, well suited to small structures and a set of preparation of mail items which it optimizes the equation performance / quality / price.
  • Its electronic transponder franking feature also gives it outstanding flexibility of use, and its fax / scan feature allows it to copy at least 20 pages without manipulation, and to fax documents or fax documents. email. Indeed, at a time when the Internet and e-mail are becoming unavoidable, a written or printed trace of electronic messages transmitted quickly and easily is of some importance.
  • a fax received at the hotel can be made confidential by placing an envelope immediately after receipt, automatically. Without the use of expert character recognition software to identify the recipient, it is conceivable to scan the top of the first page received for printing or copying on the envelope to be distributed, the format of the envelope can then serve as a copy or print format. In this case, it is not necessary to affix the postal stamp.
  • folding and enveloping provides the necessary confidentiality, whether the mail comes from the computer by e-mail or fax, whether it comes from the scanning module, a loading tray the folder / inserter or simply a combination of at least two of these elements.
  • Another example of an interesting application is to prepare a single mail to the computer, to scan once a scanner documents as images or photographs, and to send the mail item obtained and identical to a large number recipients.
  • the invention then makes it possible to transmit by fax or e-mail these items, and to complete this transmission by sending by conventional mail.
  • the present invention is not limited to the single preferred embodiment described and variants or supplements may be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.
  • the computer can also be connected to a credit repair station remotely located in a local of a postal administration or any other authorized body.
  • the digital imaging device 14 and the folder / inserter 16 can be validly integrated into a single package then in the form of a specific, fully autonomous office automation machine for mail preparation. .
