The invention also relates to a device for producing filter rods for rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing industry, with one on one of a filter towstrip drawn and spread out along a Stretching device, one stretching along the filter tow strip an application line with an application liquid that dissolves the filter material spraying application device as well as the stripe width of the filter tow stripe along a shirring device reducing shirring device.
Filters for filter cigarettes and other smokable articles in the tobacco processing industry are usually made from a filter tow material which is made of a loose, crimped fiber fabric. A preferred material for the manufacture of cigarette filters is a filter tow made of cellulose acetate threads. The filter tow material is supplied in bales and must be prepared for the production of a filter strand. In order to achieve filters with optimal properties within narrow tolerance limits with optimum tow yield, it is necessary to prepare the filter tow material as homogeneously as possible and to distribute it in the filter strand. In particular, the lowest possible filter weight with optimal, ie high, pulling resistance is sought. In order to achieve these optimal properties, it is known, for example, according to US Pat. No. 5,590,449, to spread and then stretch the filter tow material drawn off from a bale by means of air streams emitted by spreading nozzles, before it is subjected to the subsequently provided treatment and processing steps as a flat filter tow strip , ie sprayed with a solvent, for example triazetin, gathered laterally, fed to a nozzle charged with blown air and then fed to a funnel, from which the processed and compressed filter tow strip is fed to a filter rod machine, where it is formed into a filter rod and with further compression is continuously wrapped with a strip of wrapping material, from which filter rods are then cut off.
It has now been shown that, despite the spreading and stretching of the filter tow strip, fiber densifications can be retained in the filter tow strip, which can lead to a deterioration in the filter properties.
The invention has for its object to ensure homogeneous preparation and distribution of the filter material in the filter strand by process-supporting action on the filter tow strip even at high conveying speeds.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the filter tow strip is exposed to an air flow flowing in the conveying direction of the filter tow strip at least on a section of the conveying section.
According to advantageous developments, conditions which are optimally adapted to the respective treatment stage can be achieved in that the flow speed of the air flow corresponds at least approximately to the conveying speed of the filter tow strip, the flow speed of the air flow preferably being greater than or equal to the conveying speed of the filter tow strip.
The effectiveness of the proposed measures can be further increased by the fact that the filter towstrip is accompanied by the air flow on both broad sides, with the additional advantage that fibers detached from the filter towstrip or fibers adhering loosely to it are completely removed.
In order to minimize or eliminate interference in particularly critical treatment zones, it is proposed in particular that the filter tow strip be acted upon by the air flow during its stretching and also during its gathering.
Their property as accompanying the filter tow strip and loose fibers and dust absorbing and discharging air flow is optimized in particular in the aforementioned treatment zones according to a further proposal in that the air flow is generated by an effective suction at the end of a section of the conveyor line.
In order to ensure optimal guidance of the filter tow strip, particularly after exiting the stretching zone, it is proposed that the filter tow strip be subjected to one side in a relaxation zone extending between stretching and spraying by the air flow generated by compressed air supply and suction.
The device for carrying out the method mentioned at the outset consists in that the filter tow strip is guided at least on a section of the conveying section formed by the stretching section, the application section and the gathering section through a wind tunnel charged with an air flow guided in the conveying direction of the filter tow section.
According to one embodiment, the effectiveness of the wind tunnel in the sense of a supporting tow guidance is best when the end of a section of the route impacted by the air flow is connected to the suction side of a fan giving the air flow an approximately equal or greater speed relative to the conveying speed of the filter tow strip.
An additional increase in effectiveness for guiding and removing detached or loosely adhering fibers from the filter tow strip is provided by the fact that the end of the route section has a suction air connection on both broad sides of the filter tow strip.
A process-supporting effect in particularly sensitive treatment phases of the filter tow strip is possible according to further embodiments in that a suction air connection is provided at the outlet of the stretching device and at the outlet of the gathering device.
According to a further proposal, an additional possibility for adjusting the air flow is given in that the wind tunnel is limited by channel walls that can be adjusted transversely to the filter tow strip.
In order to be able to maintain a laminar air flow in particularly critical zones, provision is also made for the wind tunnel to be limited on the outlet side by a flow profile which essentially deflects the suction air flow by 180 °.
According to a further development, a stable straight-line design of the filter tow strip after leaving the stretching zone is ensured in that in a relaxation zone extending between the stretching device and the application device, a blowing air nozzle opening into the wind tunnel and a suction air connection connected to the wind tunnel are provided.
The advantage achieved by the invention is that especially at high Conveying speeds are increasingly negatively influencing the preparation process Factors such as dynamic pressure or air friction are rendered ineffective. The laminar air flow accompanying the filter tow strip prevents air eddies, so that a trouble-free or homogeneous specific tow treatment in the stretching zone, the relaxation zone and the gathering zone is guaranteed. Serves at the same time the air flow as a transport medium for removing detached or loose clinging tow fibers. Overall, this results in a clear, stable Quality improvement of the end product.
