Definitions
- the invention relates to water-free surfactant mixtures with a reduced irritant potential, containing various alcohol sulfates in selected mixing ratios and their use for the production of surface-active agents.
- fatty alcohol sulfates are anionic surfactants, which are becoming increasingly important for the production of detergents, dishwashing detergents and cleaning agents.
- European patent application EP 0342917 A2 discloses the use of mixtures of fatty alcohol sulfates based on tallow and coconut alcohol in a weight ratio of 9: 4 to 1: 6 for the production of detergents with improved detergent properties. Mixtures of tallow alcohol sulfate and coconut alcohol sulfate in a weight ratio of 60:40 and 40:60 are described in detail. The document contains neither an indication of the potential for irritation of the mixtures described therein, nor of their pourability or solubility. Aqueous detergent mixtures based on alkyl sulfates are known from European patent application EP 0 554 991 (Unilever), the alkyl radicals of which contain at least 25% by weight of 10 or 11 carbon atoms.
- alkyl radicals can be straight-chain, branched, odd or even-numbered alkyl radicals.
- these short-chain alkyl sulfates can be mixed with coconut alcohol sulfate. Since these detergent mixtures also contain betaines or amine oxides, they are well tolerated by the skin. However, this document contains no information on the solubility or free-flowing properties of the alkyl sulfates.
- the complex object of the invention was, however, to provide new water-free surfactant mixtures based on alcohol sulfates, which are simultaneously characterized by a significantly reduced potential for irritation, improved flowability and solubility.
- the invention relates to anhydrous surfactant mixtures containing
- Rl represents a linear alkyl radical with 16 and / or 18 carbon atoms and X represents an alkali and / or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, alkylammonium, alkanolammonium or glucammonium, and
- R ⁇ represents alkyl radicals with 12 to 15 carbon atoms and X in turn represents an alkali and / or alkaline earth metal, ammonium, alkylammonium, alkanolammonium or glucammonium,
- Fatty alcohol sulfates which form component (a) are known anionic surfactants and are usually prepared by reacting fatty alcohols with sulfating agents such as sulfuric acid, oleum, chlorosulfonic acid and in particular gaseous sulfur trioxide. The resulting sulfuric acid semiesters are then neutralized with suitable bases.
- sulfating agents such as sulfuric acid, oleum, chlorosulfonic acid and in particular gaseous sulfur trioxide.
- the resulting sulfuric acid semiesters are then neutralized with suitable bases.
- the fatty alcohol sulfates of the formula (I) are sulfation products of fatty alcohols having 16 to 18 carbon atoms. Typical examples are the sulfates of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol.
- Technical fatty alcohol cuts such as, for example, tallow alcohol are preferred, which may have shorter or longer-chain homologs in minor amounts.
- Fatty alcohols which form component (b) are known compounds which are prepared analogously to the alkyl sulfates of component (a) by reacting the corresponding alcohols with sulfating agent and subsequent neutralization.
- sulfation products of linear alcohols having 12 to 15 carbon atoms which are prepared by the Alfol process, can be used as alcohol sulfates of the formula (II).
- the alcohol sulfates of the formula (II) used are preferably sulfation products of alcohols having 12 to 15 carbon atoms, which are prepared by one of the customary oxo syntheses.
- oxo alcohols are alcohol mixtures which contain branched, unbranched, straight-chain and odd-chain alcohols.
- Particularly suitable oxo alcohols for the purposes of the invention are those alcohol mixtures which contain at least 20% by weight of branched and at most 80% by weight of unbranched alcohols having 12 to 15 carbon atoms.
- Very particularly preferred oxo alcohols are alcohol mixtures of this type, for which the condition additionally applies that at least 30% by weight of odd-numbered and at most 70% by weight of even-numbered alcohols with 12 to 15 carbon atoms are contained.
- Examples of such oxo alcohols are Lial 123®, 125® and 145®, commercial product from Enichem, and Dobanol 23®, 25® and 45®, commercial product from Shell AG.
- alcohol sulfates of the formula (II) are preferred in which R2 ZU represents at least 20% by weight for a branched alkyl radical and at most 80% by weight for an unbranched alkyl radical with 12 to 15 carbon atoms.
- Particularly preferred alcohol sulfates of the formula (II) are those for which the condition additionally applies that R ⁇ in formula (II) is at least 30% by weight for an odd-numbered alkyl radical and at most 70% by weight for an even-numbered alkyl radical with 12 to 15 carbon atoms.
- Typical alcohol sulfates which form component (b) contain (details are approximate) 42% by weight of dodecyl sulfate and 56% by weight of tridecyl sulfate, the branched fraction being 57% by weight, or 20% by weight of dodecyl sulfate, 31% by weight of tridecyl sulfate, 29% by weight of tetradecyl sulfate and 19% by weight of pentadecyl sulfate, the branched portion being approximately 59% by weight, or 62% by weight of tetradecyl sulfate and 38% by weight of pentadecyl sulfate, the branched portion being is about 61% by weight.
- the mixing of the alcohol sulfate components is not critical.
- the aqueous pastes resulting after the neutralization of the crude sulfation products are mixed, for example, in a Schugi mixer and simultaneously processed into an anhydrous, lumpy product.
- dry-neutralized or spray-dried or steam-dried powders of the two components can also be mixed.
- the acidic sulfation products can also be neutralized together and then processed further.
- the starting point is a tower powder which is produced by conventional processes and which, in addition to typical detergent constituents, can also contain one of the two fatty alcohol sulfate components if desired.
- the powder is placed in a mixer and continuously with at least one of the two alcohol sulfate components, preferably in the form added to an aqueous paste, mixed, dried and optionally further mechanically solidified.
- the result is a dry detergent powder, granulate or extrudate with excellent detergent properties, high dissolution rate and reduced irritation potential.
- aqueous pastes with an active substance content of 10 to 60, preferably 30 to 50% by weight can be dried in a flash dryer, as is available from VRV IT, and simultaneously granulated.
- the surfactant mixtures according to the invention are not only distinguished by very good flow properties, very good solubility and excellent detergent properties, but above all by a synergistically reduced irritant potential, ie improved skin and eye mucous membrane compatibility. They are therefore suitable for the production of detergents, dishwashing detergents and cleaning agents, in particular solid detergents, in which they can be present in amounts of 1 to 90, preferably 10 to 50% by weight, based on the detergent.
- the free-flowing properties of the products were subjectively determined in the clump test; (++) means very high flowability, (+) high flowability, (-) restricted flowability and (-) high tendency to clump.
- solubility 10 g of the anhydrous formulations were dissolved or dispersed in 100 ml of water (30 ° C., 16 ° d). After 120 s, the solutions or dispersions were filtered and the residue was dried and weighed out. The residue is stated as a measure of the solubility in% -rel based on the amount used. Solubility was measured as a residue, i.e. H. the larger the number, the worse the solubility.
- the irritation potential was determined in accordance with OECD Method No.404 and the EEC Directive 84/449 EEC, Pt.B.4.
- the specified stimulus sum scores were formed from the stimulus scores obtained after 24, 48 and 72 hours.

Description
Wasserfreie Tensidgemische
(a) Fettalkoholsulfate der Formel (I),
R!θ-S0 X (I)
