Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of treatment and the routing of mail. More specifically, it concerns a folder / inserter for folding and enveloping folds of mail such as documents, reply envelopes or inserts advertising.
  • Document folders / inserters are industrial machines well known in the art.
  • EP 352 692 and the patent application FR 96 16279 (FR 2 757 841) filed in the name of the applicant show two examples for making such machines.
  • the architecture of these machines is however relatively complex because, for routing envelopes and different types of mail folds that are the documents themselves but also additional documents such as specific sheets information, advertising inserts or reply envelopes, necessarily includes many transport routes which due to crossing them presents certain risks of jamming and a limitation operating rates due to the inevitable expectations in the area of crossing. It also proves to be unsuitable for use in the context a franking device using a printer general-purpose digital device whose coupling with the folder particularly critical.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy this disadvantage by offering a folding and / or insertion machine specially adapted for use with a general purpose printer and further having increased reliability and improved performance.
  • Another object of the invention is to allow, despite this adaptation, all of even use as a traditional machine, which increases its flexibility of use.
  • a folding machine and / or insertion of the type comprising a first path coupled to a document entry and supplying a folding module, a second path coupled to an input of empty envelopes and feeding an insertion module itself coupled to the folding module, a third path coupled to an envelope outlet loaded and closed and to the insertion module, and a fourth coupled path an entry of advertising inserts and / or reply envelopes and feeding the insertion module through the folding module, characterized in that it further comprises a main entrance for envelopes and documents coupled, through a referral module, on the one hand to first document path and secondly to an alternative path of empty envelopes.
  • the input main envelope and documents is intended to cooperate with the output of a general purpose printer capable of delivering envelopes and / or printed documents.
  • a general purpose printer capable of delivering envelopes and / or printed documents.
  • the main entrance to envelopes and documents is connected to the document path substantially downstream of the entrance to documents.
  • the alternative path crosses a module of reorientation to reorient the envelope for insertion into the insertion module.
  • This alternative path is preferably connected to the second empty envelope path substantially downstream of the envelope entry empty after passing through the reorientation module.
  • the first path for transporting documents follows a substantially straight path and the fourth transport path advertising inserts / reply envelopes follows a trajectory substantially straight aligned with the inlet of the insertion module.
  • the first document path acts as a bin accumulation of documents when several documents must be inserted in an envelope.
  • the second transport path for empty envelopes do not cross the first transport path of documents.
  • the reliability of the resulting machine is increased by made of the reduction in jams that previously involved the crossing of fold transport paths.
  • a folding machine and insert according to the invention is used to fold and secure the envelope mail folds such as documents, advertising inserts and reply envelopes, preferably as and when these folds. It is part of the equipment of a secretarial post where it constitutes one of the machines made available to the person working to this post. This machine is simply placed on its work surface and its access is easy, in particular for the presentation of the folds of which this no one ensures the envelope.
  • the machine has a ply entry 1 located at the base of a main document feeder 100 advantageously comprising a manual loading tray 110 for admission from one to five sheets and two loading magazines (or bins) 120, 130, one entrance 2 of empty envelopes located at the base of a secondary feeder 200 envelopes with an empty envelope store, an entry 4 inserts located at the base of an auxiliary feeder 400 comprising a advertising inserts / reply envelopes store, and an outlet 3 loaded and closed envelopes.
  • These different structural elements are formed on a machine frame 5, itself formed in two so-called parts upper chassis 5A and lower chassis 5B.
  • the chassis above its face lower open and hinged mounted on the lower chassis facing upper open around a 5D axis carried advantageously by the chassis upper, preferably at the level of its front part.
  • the upper chassis 5A is moreover locked on the lower chassis 5B which it then closes, by known locking / unlocking means 5C arranged preferably at the back.
  • Empty envelopes are loaded per pack in store 200.
  • advertising inserts or the reply envelopes are also entered in packages, no more difficulties at store 400.
  • Loaded envelopes and closed are available at output 3.
  • the entry 1 of the folds and the empty envelope store 200 are defined on the upper wall of the upper frame 5A, with the inlet 1 more rear that entry 2 of empty envelopes (for example entry 2 is on front of the machine and input 1 on top).
  • the insert store advertising / reply envelopes 400 is defined behind the folds entry 1 on the rear of the machine substantially at the separation of the upper frame 5A and lower frame 5B and the outlet 3 of the loaded envelopes and closed is defined at the bottom and front of the lower chassis 5B in front of the entry of empty envelopes.
  • the module folding 15 is preferably with two folding pockets, one upper pocket 150 intended for the production of a first fold and a lower pocket 152 intended for the production of a second fold, associated with a set of four folding rollers 160 to 166 including a drive 160.
  • This path 10 defines the path of the folds between input 1 and the folding module 15. It forms a substantially straight line ending in an elbow guiding the folds from entry 1 (on top of the machine) to a middle part of the upper chassis 5A, to supply the folding module 15, mounted in part in a rear middle part of the SA chassis and for the other part also in a rear middle part of the chassis 5B.
  • This module of folding 15 itself ensures at the end of the path 10, during the folding that it realizes, a folding of the trajectory of the folds towards the exit of folds 3.
  • This path 20 which does not cut to any moment, during its journey in the machine, the path 10 of the folds, ends in the middle front of the machine.
  • This path defines the trajectory of empty envelopes from input 2 to a module insertion function 25. Here, too, it forms a substantially line straight ending with a bend guiding the envelopes in the module insertion. It is equipped with a means of opening the envelope flap empty (not shown).
  • Entrance 4 of inserts corresponds to path 40 of inserts advertising or response envelopes in the machine that brings these inserts to a formation zone of the second document fold in the module folding 15, more precisely at the entrance to the second pocket of folding 152.
  • the path follows a substantially straight aligned trajectory with the input of the insertion module 25.
  • This path 30 is substantially linear and extends, between the upper and lower chassis 5A, 5B, from the front of the machine to the middle front of the machine and it is aligned with the outlet of the folds of the folding module 15 and substantially with the outlet of the chemin 40 des inserts.
  • This path 30 is conventionally equipped with different modules, which become disorganized with the opening of the upper chassis SA on the lower chassis 5B, as a functional module for loading folds in empty envelopes (insertion module 31), one module functional wetting of the flaps and a folding and closing module flaps (these last two modules are not shown).
  • a control circuit 6 defines the controls of the machine during a control cycle, in conjunction with circuits if necessary interface 61, 62, 63 specific to the main feeder 100, the feeder secondary 200 and the auxiliary feeder 400.
  • Food stores which can for example be made in welded sheet metal, each conventionally comprises a support plate 121, 131, 201, 401 two lateral feeders 122, 132, 202, 402 self-centered (sliding in synchronism by a rack not shown) and a rear presser 123, 133, 203, 403 mobile.
  • the support plate has on part of its bottom a die 124, 134, 204, 404 constituted by a shoe covered with a rough coating to ensure separation / selection of different folds (documents, empty envelopes, advertising inserts or reply envelopes) extracts from the corresponding store.
  • the training of these folds are carried out by at least one roller, preferably two rollers 125, 126; 135, 136; 205, 206; 405, 406 for taking folds, driven by a motor machine control 7, via a set of pinions drive (not shown).
  • sensors are provided for conventionally ensure correct operation of the various feeders 100, 200, 400.
  • sensors In particular to detect entry into a path transport 10, 20, 40 (end of selection by the sector), for training folds (at the folding stops of the first and second pockets), for the presence of folds (documents, empty envelopes, advertising inserts or reply envelopes) in the various stores, etc.
  • the advertising insert (or the reply envelope) is withdrawn from the magazine by the rollers 405, 406 and after selection by the die 404 is driven between rollers / counterbalances of transport 407, 408 along road 40 to its exit at the roller 164 of the folding module 15 where it remains in the standby position (a detector not shown makes it possible to determine this position and to cut (disengage) the motor means 10 for driving the insert).
  • this first phase of operation will preferably be carried out in parallel with the other operating phases of this machine.
  • the course of the second phase of operation is carried out differently depending on whether this insert is inserted alone in an empty envelope or in addition to documents.
  • the insert will be set in motion again when the empty envelope extracted from the magazine 200 by the gripping rollers 205, 206 and the die 204 is driven by the pressure rollers / counterbalances 207, 208 along path 20 to the insertion module 25.
  • the document that arrives at the folding module 15 from the path 10 after having been extracted from store 120 (or store 130) by the take-up rollers 125, 126 (respectively 135, 136) and the die 124 (134), is driven (via the transport rollers / counterbalances 127, 128) by the rollers 160, 162 in the first folding pocket 150 then, after forming a loop (resulting from contact of the fold with the folding stop 154 of this first pocket), it is driven by the rollers 160, 164 in the second folding pocket 152 until it comes into contact with the second folding stop 156 of this second pocket.
  • the insert is again set in motion and injected into the folding zone to be driven by the rollers 160, 166 to the insertion module 25 in entrance to path 30.
  • the process described above can similarly apply to a document from the introductory tray 110.
  • the stops 154, 156 are adjustable, by a translation along of each pocket, to choose the position of the first and second folds.
  • Figure 2 illustrates a second preferred embodiment a folding and / or insertion machine according to the invention especially suitable for operation from a digital printer for use general like a laser printer or inkjet printer.
  • This machine has essentially the same elements (they carry the same references) as those described above with regard to FIG. 1, which allows it to function as a traditional machine, say from an empty envelope loading bin. But, furthermore, includes specific additional means enabling it to cooperation with a general purpose printer.
  • the path 20a is substantially straight between the main entrance 8 and the entrance of empty envelopes 2 which it joins by an elbow downstream of the entrance empty envelopes 2 at the level of the transport rollers / counterfeits 207, 208.
  • the document path 10 always carries the documents of the manual feed tray 110 or document stores 120, 130 directly to the folding module 15 without crossing paths envelopes 20, 20a.
  • this document path 10 includes a alternative document entry consisting of the main entry of envelopes and documents 8 from the general purpose printer which joined document path 10 downstream of document entry 1.
  • the main entrance 8 is immediately followed by a module switch 35 controlled from the control circuit 6.
  • This module also receives the entry of documents 1.
  • the path of alternative envelopes 20a is provided with a reorientation device envelopes 45 such as that described for example in the patent application FR 97 11797 in the name of the plaintiff.
  • the orientation of envelopes at the output of the printer can be significantly different depending on the type of printer considered when the insertion module 25 cannot receive only envelopes presented in their transverse direction. It is therefore necessary to provide a module which ensures, of course when this this modification of the orientation of the envelopes delivered by the printer.
  • this module 45 is under the control circuit control 6.
  • the operation of the folding and / or insertion machine in this preferred embodiment has two distinct modes.
  • one first mode its operation is identical to that corresponding to the traditional machine and explained above with reference to FIG. 1.
  • the switching module 35 is in a first position which condemns the alternative path of empty envelopes 20a.
  • Documents issued feeder 100 are then directed directly to the folding module 15 then after folding are inserted into an envelope provided by the feeder 200 at the insertion module 25. If necessary, a insert is also inserted in this envelope. After insertion, the envelope thus loaded is closed and directed towards the outlet 3.
  • the switching module 35 allows selective activation of alternative path 20a and the store of empty envelopes 200 is then not used.
  • Two possibilities to use the folding and / or insertion machine can therefore be envisaged depending on the printer software configuration.
  • the printer only prints empty envelopes. In this case, the envelope that comes out of the printer immediately enters the machine at its main entrance 8.
  • the referral module 35 being positioned in a second position which frees the alternative path of empty envelopes 20a (the document path is then closed), the envelope is driven towards the reorientation module 45, where it is possibly reoriented, then towards the insertion module 25 (by means in particular transport rollers / counterbalances 207, 208).
  • the switching module 35 After the envelope has passed the switching module 35, it is repositioned in its first position freeing up document path 10 to receive the or the documents to be inserted in this envelope and issued by the various feeder 100 stores at document entry level 1. These documents are brought to the folding module 15 and then after folding inserted in the envelope. If necessary, an insert can also be inserted in this envelope from insert store 400. After insertion, the envelope thus loaded is closed and directed to exit 3 of the machine.
  • the printer not only performs the printing of the envelope but also that of the documents according to a process such as that described in application FR 97 11798 in the name of the Applicant.
  • the envelope leaves first the printer and, the routing module being positioned in its second position, it will follow path 20a from main entrance 8 to insertion module 25 as before.
  • the module switch point crossed it is positioned in the first position, and the documents can then be entered in document path 10 which also acts as an accumulation tank in case several documents must be inserted in the envelope.
  • These are then folded together and, at the outlet of the folding module, they are directed towards the insertion module 25 for insertion into the envelope pending in this module.
  • An insert can also, as before, be introduced into this envelope which, once loaded, is closed and directed to exit 3.
