- the invention relates to a light-emitting diode matrix display device, in particular for outdoor use, with display points arranged in rows and columns, which can be controlled by means of a control device and by means of a monitoring device are monitored for display errors.
- DE 27 27 800 is in the form of a light-emitting diode display device a 7-segment display specified a monitoring device for display errors, which has a current sensor transistor. Such a monitoring device to use with an LED matrix is not an option because, because of the large number of display points, a lot of effort is required would.
- a similar monitoring device for a light emitting diode display device in a segment display, DE 36 20 584 A1 also shows using the open collector output of the segment display. Also this type of monitoring device is for a light-emitting diode matrix display device not suitable.
- DE 40 24 499 C1 shows a matrix display device in which the display points are formed by means of the light exit sides of optical fibers become.
- bistable closure elements are used arranged above the light exit side of the optical fibers.
- To open or closing of the closures are placed on these rows and columns or reset pulses, which are monitored by means of respective optocouplers become.
- To determine whether the display points are lit, is one separate monitoring circuit required.
- US-A-5 444 390 is a light emitting diode matrix display device in rows and Columns arranged LEDs in a 5x7 configuration known, each using a Control device can be controlled and by means of a monitoring device for display errors are monitored. Through the monitoring device, the drive current is each Display point can be detected by means of a current sensor and by means of the monitoring device assign to the relevant display point.
- the current collector is here by a voltage divider circuit in the power supply line with a downstream operational amplifier formed, the potential difference through the operational amplifier in converting an output signal that is sent to a microcontroller. This receives information about the functionality of the LEDs. It is just a common current collector is provided for all rows and columns.
- DE 29 52 009 A is a test circuit for a matrix-like arrangement of optical Known display elements, in which a trained as a current sensor for each lamp group Detector is present, so that the state of the individual lamp groups in parallel can be directed to the control unit.
- DE 32 06 123 A is a circuit arrangement for checking and error detection known when operating a fluorescence display, with the optocoupler as a current sensor are connected in series to the control lines.
- the invention is based on the object of a generic light-emitting diode matrix display device to provide a with simple training provides reliable function monitoring.
- the control current can be formed in parallel optocouplers detected potential-free and the information about it to the control device be returned for evaluation without influencing the control becomes.
- the effort for the control of the display device and the required Performance with simultaneous safe function monitoring of the individual display points are reduced by one per row or per column Current collector is provided and that the coordinate points of the corresponding columns and rows cyclically in the activating display points Multiplex operation can be controlled with a frequency that activates the controlled LEDs above the flicker fusion frequency of the Eye results.
- An optimal display quality is maintained, whereby a high luminance can be achieved by the level of the control pulses Can be tuned to given external lighting conditions using pulse width modulation is.
- the location of the activated display point can easily be determined be that current signals fed back via a feedback line Current collector in the control device due to the existing in the same Time information of the line control in connection with the time information the column control with regard to an error of the to be activated Display point can be evaluated.
- Fault memory has that each display module according to the claims 2 to 5 is controllable and that the overall display by means of the control device can be assembled from the displays of the individual display modules.
- the monitoring device can be perfected in that per Display module a reference element is provided with which a long-term change the display properties of the display module can be detected, and / or that a temperature sensor is provided per display module and that a reference element signal or a temperature sensor signal with respect to a Deviation from a target value can be evaluated by means of the control unit.
- FIG. 1 and 2 schematically show the structure of a light-emitting diode matrix display device reproduced and the mode of operation clarified.
- the display device has a light-emitting diode matrix with in Rows y and columns x arranged display points L by a Light-emitting diode or a group of light-emitting diodes are formed.
- a Group of LEDs per display point L can e.g. increased display luminance achieved with high ambient luminance or color representations become.
- the display points L are from a control unit ST with a drive current supplied by the respective activated display point AL by Addressing the corresponding coordinate point x, y via an associated one Row control line ZL and an assigned column control line SL is fed.
- a current collector S is arranged, with which the control current of the activated display point AL (illuminated point) detected and fed to the control unit ST via a feedback line ME.
- a fault memory FSP is arranged in the control unit ST, in which a ID is stored in the event of a missing or faulty control current.
- an arrangement of the current sensors S in the Column control lines SL possible.
- the display points L are driven via a series resistor R v located in the line drive line ZL.
- the current collector S in the form of an optocoupler OK is connected in parallel with the series resistor R v in series with a measuring resistor R M.
- the optocoupler OK gives a potential-free current measurement and does not falsify the control current.
- An entire display device can be composed of several display modules be according to the description above are built up.
- a control device of which the control unit ST with The fault memory FSP forms part of the display of the individual Display modules are coordinated to the overall display. Every display module has its own monitoring device with which the display errors within of the display module can be determined and evaluated. It is also possible a further error analysis of the display modules in the parent Control device to perform.
- the error detection in the control unit takes place in connection with that in the Control unit available control information of the individual display points L.
- the control of the display points L is row by row and column by column Multiplex operation carried out, with only one display module at a time one display point L, which may consist of several light-emitting diodes can exist, is controlled.
- the drive frequency is so high that the intermittent activation is not perceived by the eye, i.e. is above the flicker fusion frequency.
- the luminance of the display points L can be selected by means of pulse width modulation, whereby relatively high instantaneous luminance levels can be achieved by controlling the pulse width are.
- the information known how high the respective control current must be so that by comparison with the feedback signal of the current collector L also the failure of individual LEDs by comparison with the respective setpoint can be determined.
- the correct color representation can be inferred in this way become.
- Evaluation unit determines the necessary conclusions for error handling become. It can be decided whether an error message in the event of failure one or more display points L should take place. At a certain adjustable Number of missing active display points AL can the display device due to representations that are no longer clearly recognizable (mutilation) should be switched off.
- a reference element RE can be provided; in the event of a deviation from a specifiable
- a setpoint can be set via the control unit or control device appropriate information for replacing the display module is output become.
- a temperature sensor TS can be provided at a suitable point be e.g. to activate a cooling device or the display device at Danger of switching off.
