Abstract

A movable head (3) includes spreader shafts (27), guide carriages (4), a fixed end block (5) and a drive (6-8). A cylinder (10) of polygonal cross-section is attached to the head, with at least some of its faces having attachment points of different configurations for the rear ends of the spreader shafts. The attachment points are formed by perforations, e.g. of keyhole shape, in the cylinder surface which cooperate with a mobile plate with similar perforations. The rear ends of the spreader shafts include a narrowed portion close to the ends, defining an end head which engages in the keyhole-shaped perforations for selective fastening.

Description

The present invention relates to heat exchange batteries comprising a multitude of fins mounted transversely along a series of rectilinear tubes oriented parallel to each other and connected together by bent connecting portions.

We know that to ensure perfect attachment of the fins on the tubes and thus improve the thermal transmission between said fins and tubes, it is necessary, once the fins are temporarily mounted along the tubes and prior to the installation of the angled connection portions, to force-dilate these tubes. This operation is most often carried out by introducing into each of the tubes of the battery a rod provided with an olive-shaped endpiece whose diameter is slightly greater than the internal diameter of the tubes.

Les documents US-A-3 487 (AMES), FR-A-2 369 033 (CHAUSSON) et US-A-4 738 130 (HOMMA) illustrent bien cette technique.Documents US-A-3,487 (AMES), FR-A-2,369,033 (CHAUSSON) and US-A-4,738,130 (HOMMA) illustrate this technique well.

To obtain the simultaneous insertion of all of the expansion rods, use is generally made of machines similar to presses which have a movable head equipped with a series of parallel rods, and a fixed nose to the right of which is retained the battery to expand. Guide carriages are provided between the head and the nose to prevent untimely buckling of the rods.

Or cette géométrie diffère très sensiblement suivant les différents types de batteries, en fonction notamment de la capacité d'échange thermique prévue pour celles-ci.Obviously the expansion rods must be arranged, on the movable head and through the guide carriages and the fixed nose, according to a geometry identical to that of the tubes of the batteries to be worked. However, this geometry differs very appreciably according to the different types of batteries, depending in particular on the heat exchange capacity provided for them.

It is therefore conceivable that the adaptation of a dilation machine to a new type of battery involves long and tedious work because it is necessary to dismantle the rods fixed on the movable head, to disengage them from the carriages guide and fixed nose, to change the intermediate plates, to re-engage these rods according to the new geometry and to subject them again on the head. These operations, entrusted to specialized personnel, prove to be very expensive, if only as a result of the prolonged stoppage of the manufacturing cycle of the exchanger batteries.

It is to this drawback that the present invention more particularly intends to remedy, which relates to the machine which is defined in claim 1.

In fact, the invention mainly consists in making the movable head comprise a barrel of polygonal section and equipping at least some of the faces of this barrel with means suitable for securing the rear ends of the expansion rods, these means being arranged according to different geometries so that said barrel is capable, by rotation and locking, of ensuring very quickly the expansion of different types of batteries.

The fixing means provided on the faces of the barrel advantageously consist of a movable plate cut out from a series of buttonholes, each of which has on the one hand a part with a semicircular profile capable of accommodating the rear end of one of the expansion rods, on the other hand an elongated portion of small width shaped to accommodate a portion of reduced size of each rod. With this movable plate is associated a jack whose control ensures the longitudinal displacement of said plate against elastic return means which tend to keep this plate in the locked position of the rods. This gives direct mounting and dismounting of all the rods.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the guide carriages and the fixed nose are equipped with at least one perforated panel, provided easily removable so that the user can mount in place panels having the geometry corresponding to the type of batteries to work.

Furthermore and in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the movable head and the carriages move along horizontally oriented rails. This avoids having to give the guide carriages a positive movement as the moving head advances, since it is the latter which successively pushes the carriages.

The appended drawing, given by way of example, will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing:

Fig. 7 shows in perspective the removable fixing of the perforated panels on the guide carriages.

The machine shown in fig. 1 and 2 comprises a frame 1 which extends horizontally on the ground. This frame 1 supports two horizontal rails or guides 2, oriented parallel to each other above the ground. On these rails 2 are suspended a movable head 3, a series of guide carriages 4 and a fixed nose 5.

Cette tige ou vis 6 est entraînée en rotation par un moteur supérieur 7 en vue d'assurer le déplacement longitudinal lent d'un écrou 8 rendu solidaire du châssis de la tête mobile 3.Above the rails 2, the frame 1 supports a threaded rod or screw 6 which extends over practically the entire length of the machine while being disposed along the mean plane of the rails 2. This rod or screw 6 is rotated by an upper motor 7 with a view to ensuring the slow longitudinal displacement of a nut 8 made integral with the frame of the movable head 3.

Between two longitudinal members 9 (fig. 3) of this chassis is rotatably mounted a barrel 10 which is oriented transversely to the rails 2. In the envisaged embodiment, this barrel 10, assumed to be of square section, is formed by two lateral hubs 11 on which four massive flanges are fixed 12. The hubs 11 are perforated to receive two pivots 13 carried by the side members 9 of the chassis.

It will be observed that one of the pivots 13 is integral with a toothed wheel 14 which meshes with a pinion 15 fixed on a small shaft 16; the latter crosses the longitudinal member 9 adjacent to be equipped with an appropriate operating means, constituted by a steering wheel 17 in the embodiment envisaged. Opposite this rotary operating mechanism, two sliding fingers 18 are provided which are elastically engaged in two blind housings 12 a formed in each of the flanges 12. Two small single-acting cylinders 19 ensure the temporary withdrawal of the fingers 18 from the housings 12 a when the user intends to rotate the barrel 10 to bring it to another angular orientation of indexing.

In front of each of the four flanges 12 of the barrel 10 is provided a perforated wall 20 disposed at a short distance from the corresponding flange in order to provide therewith a housing for the sliding mounting of a plate 21. As shown in fig. 4 and 5, each movable plate 21 is cut from a series of buttonholes 21 a , in a number equal to that of the perforations 20 a of the fixed wall 20 which corresponds to it.

5.One of the transverse edges of each plate 21 carries guide rods 22 which play through a spacer 23 so as to be fitted with springs 24. These springs 24 tend to keep the movable plate 21 in abutment against an opposite spacer 25 (fig. 3); at this position, illustrated in fig. 4, each of the perforations 20a of the perforated wall is in register with the elongate portion small width of a buttonhole 21a of the plate 21. A small lateral jack 26, adapted to actuate one of the rods 22 , allows to push the plate 21 against the springs 24 in order to bring the semi-circular profile part of each buttonhole 21 a in axial coincidence with one of the perforations 20 a , as shown in fig. 5.

It is understood that the drawings of the perforations 20a and buttonholes 21 has four sets of walls 20 and movable plate 21 of barrrilet 10 may be different to match the geometry of the tubes of four types of finned coils. The momentary actuation of the indexing cylinders 19 and the handwheel 17 (which can of course be replaced by a small motor) makes it possible to bring the barrel 10 to an angular position such that the clearance 20-21 disposed vertically facing the fixed nose 5 corresponds to the type of finned batteries to expand.

It then suffices for the operator to actuate the jack 26 to bring the movable plate 21 to the engagement position according to FIG. 5. At this time and as shown in fig. 6, the rear end of the expansion rods 27 can be engaged in the perforations 20 a and in the semi-circular part of the buttonholes 21 a until they bear against the flange 12 envisaged. The actuation of the jack 26 is then stopped, so that the springs 24 tend to bring the movable plate 21 back to the locked position according to FIG. 4. This return is made possible as a result of a groove 27 a formed on each rod 27, this groove defining a portion to be thinned section whose diameter substantially corresponds to the width of the elongated portion of each buttonhole 21a. The rods 27 are then firmly locked.

As shown in fig. 7, each guide carriage 4 comprises two uprights 28, the upper part of which is provided with two pads 29 profiled to cooperate with the rails 2. The lower part of the uprights 28 is integral with two superimposed side members 30 shaped like the runners in view to ensure the sliding mounting of a removable panel 31. The retaining in place of this panel 31 is effected by means of a tilting latch 32 articulated on one of the two side members 30 and equipped with a small lock d 'asset 33; in the high position, this latch 32 keeps the panel 31 in abutment against a stop 34 provided on the upright 28 opposite to that which carries said latch.

It is appreciated that the panel 31 is cut out of openings 31a arranged in an identical geometry that buttonhole 21a of one of the four plates 21 of the barrel 10 and perforations 20a of one of the perforated walls 20. In these conditons, having four different types of panels 31, the operator can very quickly adapt all of the guide carriages 4 to the type of finned batteries to be expanded, the expansion rods passing through the openings 31 a of all the carriages 4 before d '' be locked in the barrel 10.

An identical arrangement is adopted for the nose 5 suspended and fixed permanently at the end of the rails 2. In the construction illustrated in FIG. 1 and 2, it was assumed that this fixed nose 5 was provided with two perforated panels 31, held parallel to one another by means of latches 32.

The general operation of the machine according to the invention is analogous to that of conventional vertical machines. Each battery to work, referenced B in fig. 1 and 2, is arranged and fixed immediately in front of the nose 5, using a loading and retaining device of conventional type, the tubes of said battery opening opposite the nose. The movable head 3 is in the retracted position illustrated in FIG. 1, the carriages 4 being placed at intervals made regular by chains 35 connecting them to each other.

1.The expansion rods 27 being suitably placed, it suffices to actuate the geared motor 7 associated with the screw 6 to operate the slow displacement of the head 3 and the forceful insertion of the rods 27 into the tubes of the battery B , the guide carriages 4 being themselves successively moved by the advance movement of the head 3. This thus arrives at the position shown in fig. 2 and it is understood that the rotation of the screw 6 in the opposite direction ensures the return of the assembly to the position according to fig. 1.

Adapting the machine to another type of B battery can be achieved very quickly. The rods 27 are removed from the head 3 by actuating the jack 26 coupled to the sliding plate 21 which held them, and they are released from the carriages 4 and from the nose 5 by the front of the machine. After actuation of the indexing cylinders 19, the steering wheel 17 is maneuvered to bring the play 20-21 comprising the desired geometry to the useful position and the perforated panels 31 of the carriages 4 and of the nose 5 are replaced by those having the geometry in question. It then suffices to engage the rods 27 in the new panels and in the head 3 and to stop the control of the jack 26, the springs 26 then bringing the plate 21 to the locked position.

It is not without interest to observe that the horizontal orientation of the machine simplifies all of the adaptation maneuvers, the operators being able to position themselves laterally in front of the nose 5.
