Definitions

  • the invention relates to a connector which is to be connected to a plug with three flat elongated contact pins, a flat elongated protective contact pin and a threaded bore arranged in the center thereof.
  • Plugs with three flat elongated contact pins, a flat elongated earthed contact pin and a threaded hole arranged in the center thereof are commercially available components, also known as 'solenoid valve connectors', which are manufactured and used in large quantities.
  • these connectors are correspondingly diverse. They are used especially for connecting measuring devices, e.g. Pressure, level or flow meters that have a corresponding connector are used.
  • a disadvantage of such a plug is that the plug and socket are connected to one another by a bayonet catch. Such a closure offers no special protection against the ingress of dust or moisture. Since the contact insert is rotatably arranged in the bayonet ring, there are additional gaps through which e.g. penetrating moisture can get into the entire interior of the connector.
  • a sealing element is arranged on the contact insert on its plug-facing side.
  • gaps remain between the contact insert and the first housing section as well as between the screw and the first housing section, through which gaps e.g. Dust and moisture can enter the connector.
  • measuring devices are often used in areas in which they have to meet high safety requirements, in particular with regard to protection against the ingress of dust and moisture.
  • the housing has at least one pin formed on the end side on the plug-facing side and engaging in an opening arranged in the plug.
  • the housing consists of a transparent, chemically highly resistant plastic, in particular of polyacrylic sulfone.
  • At least one light guide is formed in the interior of the housing, the first end of which adjoins the plug and the second end of which adjoins a thin-walled section of the housing.
  • the ring formed on the cone has an edge that runs around the inside thereof and through which the seal is fixed in the groove.
  • An advantage of the invention is that the screw with which the connector is to be attached to the plug is arranged inside the housing. As a result, there are no additional gaps between the exterior and the interior of the housing, through which e.g. Dust or moisture can enter. The screw is not visible to the user after the connector has been attached to the connector.
  • Another advantage is that the housing is partially conical. As a result, the maximum cross-sectional area of the connector is practically the same as the cross-sectional area of the connector.
  • Another advantage is that the housing on the side facing the plug through the seal and the ring coaxially encompassing the plug and on the side facing away from the plug Side is sealed dust and waterproof by the sealing element.
  • Another advantage is that when the connector is fastened, no twisting of the connector about its longitudinal axis relative to the connector is required. Such a rotation could lead to difficulties during assembly, since the seal could be thrown up, deformed or displaced due to the friction that occurs, as a result of which the tightness would be impaired.
  • a longitudinal section of an embodiment of a connector is shown. It is to be connected with a plug with three flat elongated contact pins, a flat elongated protective contact pin and a threaded hole arranged in its center.
  • the plug connector has a housing 1 which consists of a cone 11 and of a hollow cylinder 12 formed on the end of the cone 11 which faces away from the plug and has the smaller cross-sectional area.
  • An external thread 121 is formed on the free end of the hollow cylinder 12.
  • the housing 1 has a shoulder 13 which extends radially into the interior of the housing at the junction of the cone 11 and the hollow cylinder 12.
  • a cylindrical sealing element 4 which protrudes somewhat from the hollow cylinder 12.
  • a nut 5 is to be placed over the sealing element 4 and is to be screwed onto the external thread 121 of the hollow cylinder 12.
  • the nut 5 and the sealing element 4 are penetrated in the axial direction by a four-wire cable 3.
  • the cavity existing in this housing section is thus completely filled by the sealing element 4.
  • a groove 14 for receiving a seal 6 is arranged on an annular surface of the cone 11 facing the plug.
  • This is, for example, a molded seal or an O-ring made of an elastomer.
  • the cone 11 closes with a ring 15 formed on its outer ring surface and extending in the axial direction. This includes the end of the plug, not shown in Fig. 1, coaxially. It is thereby achieved that splash water flows outside on the housing 1 and cannot even reach the seal 6.
  • the ring 15 has an edge 8 running around the inside, through which the seal 6 is fixed in the groove 14. This makes it easier to assemble the connector.
  • the housing 1 consists of a transparent, chemically highly resistant plastic, in particular of polyacrylic sulfone.
  • a contact insert 2 is arranged in the housing 1.
  • This is, for example, a plastic element produced by injection molding, e.g. made of polyacrylic sulfone.
  • the housing 1 has a round cross section.
  • all the features and properties mentioned apply equally to a housing that has a rectangular or square cross section on the side facing the plug. In such a housing, only the groove 14, the ring 15 and the seal 6 have to be replaced in a correspondingly rectangular manner.
  • FIG. 2 shows a side view of the contact insert 2. This comprises a cylinder 21 and a bayonet ring 23.
  • FIG. 3 shows a top view of the contact insert 2 from its side facing away from the plug, which shows the bayonet ring 23.
  • This has four locking elements, each consisting of an integrally formed on the bayonet ring 23, perpendicular to the axis of symmetry Y of the contact insert 2, angled ring segment 24 and an adjoining, extending parallel to the axis of symmetry Y stop 25.
  • Each ring segment 24 has a groove 26 running on the outside parallel to the axis of symmetry Y.
  • the housing 1 has a corresponding recess 16 on the side facing the plug for receiving the shoulder 22, cf. Fig. 1.
  • FIG. 4 The counterpart of the bayonet ring 23 in the housing 1 is shown in FIG. 4 and consists of four acute-angled ring segments 19 formed in one plane on the inner wall of the housing in each case a locking lug 17 extending in the axial direction in the housing 1 is formed, as shown in FIG. 5.
  • the contact insert 2 is to be inserted into the housing 1 and then rotated so that the bayonet ring 23 with the ring segments 24 rests on the ring segments 19 of the housing 1 and the stops 25 rest against the ring segments 19.
  • the two locking lugs 17 snap into the two corresponding, opposite grooves 26.
  • the contact insert 2 is thus fixed and can no longer be rotated. It can only be released again using a tool.
  • the contact insert 2 also has four continuous bores 29 shown in FIG. 3.
  • a corresponding tool e.g. a four-pronged fork, with which the contact insert 2 can be rotated in the housing 1 and removed from the housing 1. This offers protection against improper or unauthorized handling, especially swapping the connections.
  • FIG. 6 shows a longitudinal section through the contact insert 2. It has a central, axial, continuous bore 27 for receiving a screw 7. This bore 27 has a central area with a smaller diameter. At the First screwing in of screw 7 cuts a thread in this area and after screwing in, the thread of screw 7 is on the side of this middle area facing the plug. As a result, the screw 7 is held captively in the contact insert 2.
  • the connector is installed by first connecting the wires of the cable 3 to the contact insert 2. Then the housing 1 is to be guided over the contact insert 2 and the cable 3 and the bayonet catch is to be closed. Then the connector is to be fastened by means of the screw 7 on the plug, not shown in the figures. The screw connection takes place through the opening of the housing 1 facing away from the plug. By inserting the contact pins of the connector into the flat contact terminals in the contact insert 2, the connector is prevented from rotating about its longitudinal axis with respect to the connector. The seal 6 is therefore not twisted or thrown during assembly, but only pressed. Finally, the sealing element 4 has to be pushed onto the cable 3 and the nut 5 has to be mounted.
  • the housing 1 has three pins 18, which are formed on the ends on the side facing the plug and are shown in FIG. 1 and in FIG. 4. These snap into corresponding openings in the connector.
  • the pins 18 provide additional protection against rotation of the connector about its longitudinal axis relative to the connector. Such a rotation can occur in cases with a round cross section, for example, when the contact pins are not firmly clamped in the flat contact terminals.
  • Two light guides 9 can be formed on the inner wall of the cone 11. A first end of the light guide 9 is adjacent to the connector. A second end of the light guides 9 adjoins a section 91 of the housing 1 which is thin-walled. Just like the housing 1, the light guides are made of polyacrylic sulfone.
  • the light guides 9 serve to transmit light, e.g. to be guided by a light-emitting diode arranged on the plug, so that it can be seen through the plug connector whether the light-emitting diode is switched on or not.
  • a light emitting diode is used in measuring devices e.g. used to determine the operating state of the measuring device, e.g. On / Off, or to display an alarm.
