Abstract

The adaptor for mounting an encastre lock, having a reversible bolt, comprises a casing (14) having the shape and dimensions for taking the lock. The casing has holes (24) for its fixing onto a door. There are passage holes (26,28) for the operating rod of the lock cylinder and holes (30,31) for the passage of mounting screws to a plate. The number, siting and/or shape of the passage holes are pre-determined to enable two possible lock mounting positions in the casing. The casing has a mounting base (20) and a cover (21) through which the passage holes are made. The mounting base has a part forming a faceplate (48) to be fixed in the door. It is completed by a plate (15) constituting a support for a handle (16).

Description

The invention relates to a mounting adapter for a built-in lock and more particularly aims to allow the mounting of such a lock, applied against a door.

Locks can be divided into two categories: those that are fixed to the wall on one side of the door and those that are mounted in the thickness of the door, the headrest flush with the door field. For surface mounted locks, the same model including a latch bolt and a dead bolt must be produced in four versions to cope with all mounting cases, depending on whether the door opens to the left or to the right, by pushing or by pulling. If the lock is of the built-in type, two models may suffice and even only one with a particular type of built-in lock called "with reversible bolt", known per se. Furthermore, such locks are for the most part constructed with standardized dimensions, in particular the distance between the axis of the follower and the headrest or the distance between the axis of the follower and that of the cylinder.

The invention makes it possible to transform a built-in lock into a surface-mounted lock, taking account of the constraints of standardization.

More particularly the invention relates to an adapter for mounting a built-in lock, characterized in that it comprises a shaped and dimensioned housing for receiving said built-in lock and in that this housing includes holes for its own surface mounting on a door, through holes for the follower drive rod and / or the lock cylinder and through holes for the mounting screws of at least one plate.

Preferably, the lock is of the reversible bolt type and the number, the locations and / or the shapes of said through holes are predetermined to allow two possible mounting positions of said lock built into said housing. The latter breaks down mainly in a mounting base and a cover. The mounting base is intended to be fixed on the door. The aforementioned through holes are made in the base and the cover.

In FIGS. 1 and 5, there is shown a surface mounting of a so-called built-in lock 11 of standard type, by means of an adapter 12 fixed to the door 13. In the example shown, the dimensions characteristic of this type of lock are the following :

In the embodiments described, there is advantageously provided such a type of handle called "crutch", at least on the inner side. The bolt 18 is advantageously a reversible bolt. Such a lock is normally intended to be mounted embedded in a recess made in the thickness of the door and opening onto its field. The invention makes it possible to mount the lock 11 applied to one side of the door.

Thus the adapter 12 mainly comprises a housing 14 shaped and dimensioned to receive the built-in lock 11; this housing is composed of a mounting base 20 intended to be fixed to the door 13 and of a cover 21. The housing, more precisely here the base 20, has holes 24 for its own surface mounting on the door 13, a through hole 26 for the passage of the drive rod 25 of the follower 27, a through hole 28 for the cylinder and through holes 30, 31 for the mounting screws of at least one plate, as this will be explained in detail later. The mounting base 20 has a generally rectangular shape and the holes 24 are located in the vicinity of the four corners of this plate. Holes 26 and 28 are similar; their shape, dimensions, and locations are predetermined to allow two possible mounting positions of the lock 11 in the housing 14. In addition, if the base 20 was mounted on the other face of the door 13, the hole 26 would be used for the passage of the cylinder and the hole 28 would be used for the passage of the drive rod 25.

In the example described, each hole 26, 28 is formed by the union of a part in the form of a buttonhole corresponding to that of a standardized cylinder and a part with a circular contour corresponding to the follower. For other types of locks it could be that each hole 26 or 28 is replaced by two separate holes, one for the cylinder and the other for the follower.

The cover 21 also has two holes 26 a and 28 a , respectively of the same shape and dimensions as the holes 26 and 28 and facing them when the cover is in place, as well as two holes 31 a similar to the holes 31 and facing them .

The base comprises two legs 35, 36, high and low, extending perpendicular to the mounting plane along the short sides and a square piece 38 comprising a part 38 a perpendicular to the mounting plane and a part 38 b parallel to the timeline. Part 38 a is connected to the main part of the base in the middle of the large rear side thereof; part 38 b makes it possible to position and maintain the lock in the absence of the cover. A tapped hole 39 is made in the part 38 a to receive a fixing screw 40 of the cover 21, said screw passing through a hole 41 drilled in the rear side wall of the cover. The legs 35, 36 have bosses 42 cooperating with corresponding bosses 43 of the cover, formed on the upper and lower side walls of the latter. These bosses allow the cover to be locked in the mounting position.

On the side of the front edge of the base 20 (that is to say near the field of the door 13) said base is provided with two fixing lugs 45, high and low, each having a tapped hole 46 for fixing of the headrest 11 has the lock. The holes 46 are therefore spaced by the distance a. Between the two fixing lugs 45 but at 180 ° relative to them, extends a folded part 48 forming a kind of faceplate of the housing, intended to be fixed to the field of the door 13. Holes 49 are made in this faceplate for the passage of the fixing screws 50. The tabs 45 are offset from the front face of the folded part 48 by a small distance corresponding to the thickness of the headrest lla. This allows the holes already prepared in the door to be reused.

The through holes 31 are located near the short sides of the base and are shaped and spaced so as to allow the passage of the two mounting screws 50 of the plate 15, whatever the mounting position of the lock 11 inside the housing 14. In the example shown, the holes 31 are slightly oblong.

In the example of FIG. 1, the user has chosen to mount outside a plate 15 a supporting a handle of the stand type 16 a , the assembly being comparable to the plate 15 and the handle 16 mounted on the side interior. The plate 15 a comprises two balusters 51 internally threaded and fitting into the thickness of the door 13. These balusters receive the screws 50. In this case, the holes 30 are not used.

Figures 2 and 5 show a mounting variant using essentially the same components. In this variant, the elements identical or similar to those of FIG. 1 bear the same reference numbers and will not be described again. Here, the user has chosen to mount outside another type of handle, not shown, outside, which does not involve the use of a rectangular plate. The latter is replaced by two small, substantially circular sconces called "rosettes". A rosette 55 is mounted centered on the axis of the rod 25 for actuating the follower and another rosette 56, independent, is mounted in front of the inlet of the cylinder of the lock. Each rosette 55 or 56 has two hollow columns 57 internally threaded and fitted into the thickness of the door. The two rosettes are secured to the base 20 by screws 60. This is the reason why this base has two holes 30 extending on either side of the hole 26 and two holes 30 extending on both sides. other side of the hole 28. The holes 30 are oblong to allow two possibilities of mounting the lock 11 in the housing 14.

Figures 4 and 5 show the respective assemblies of the adapter, depending on whether one uses the configuration of Figure 1 or that of Figure 2. The lock 11 is shown in broken lines. In the first case, we see that the screws 50 pass through the housing 14 and that the two plates 15, 15 a are mounted on either side of the door 13 and of the housing 14 by these only two screws engaged in the balusters 51.

In the second case, the two rosettes 55, 56 are fixed by screws 60 engaged in the balusters 57. The screws 60 bear on the base 20 and pass through the holes 30. The plate 15, mounted on the cover 21 is then fixed to the door by wood screws 62 passing through the holes 31, 31 a .

FIG. 3 illustrates the structure of the keeper which is very similar in design to that of the housing 14. There is a mounting base 66 intended to be fixed to the frame 67 using screws 68. This base has tabs 69, 70 for mounting a cover 72 and tabs 74 on which is fixed, by screws 76, a reversible plate 78 in which are formed windows 82 a , 82 b shaped and dimensioned for the passage of the bolt and of the lock and located at predetermined locations such that the two possible positions of the reversible plate correspond respectively to the two mounting positions of the lock 11 in the housing. The plate 78 also has two holes 79 allowing it to be fixed, by screws 80, to the frame of the frame 67.

Claims (9)

Adapter for surface mounting of a built-in lock, characterized in that it comprises a housing (14) shaped and dimensioned to receive said built-in lock and in that this housing includes holes (24) for its own surface mounting on a door, through holes (26, 28) for the follower drive rod and / or the lock cylinder and through holes (30, 31) for the mounting screws of at least one plate. Adapter according to claim 1, characterized in that said lock being of the reversible bolt type, the number, the locations and / or the shapes of said through holes are predetermined to allow two possible mounting positions of said built-in lock (11) in said housing (14).
