Abstract

Verfahren zum Umwandeln von aus Polyacrylnitrilfasern oder von im wesentlichen aus Polyacrylnitrilfasern bestehenden zwei- oder dreidimensionalen flächigen Gebilden wie Geweben, Gelegen, Gestricken, Filzen oder Vliesen in den thermisch stabilisierten aber nicht carbonisierten Zustand durch Durchströmen des jeweiligen flächigen Fasergebildes mit einem Sauerstoff enthaltenden oder Sauerstoff abgebenden Gas. Dieses Gas, bzw. Gasgemisch dient als Medium für die Temperaturregelung in dem flächigen Fasergebilde und als Mittel für den Antransport der Sauerstoffträger sowie den Abtransport der gasförmigen Reaktionsprodukte. Temperatur und Strömungsgeschwindigkeit des Gases/Gasgemisches werden auf die Stabilisierungscharakteristik des jeweiligen flächigen Fasergebildes abgestimmt und genau geregelt. Die für die Durchführung des Verfahrens verwendete Vorrichtung besteht aus einem aus mindestens einer Kammer bestehenden Ofen (23), durch den eine Bahn des flächigen Fasergebildes (18) kontinuierlich bewegt wird. Während dieses Transports wird das flächige Fasergebilde (18) von dem Sauerstoff enthaltenden oder Sauerstoff abgebenden Gas geregelt durchströmt.
