Abstract

The invention addresses the problem of substantially raising the output of an inserter. Whereas EP-A-0 504 114 to this end discloses the use of rotary members for opening the envelopes and gripping the envelope flaps, the invention proposes opening and grasping the envelope (20) in one conveying plane (13), inserting the contents (21) into the envelope in a conveying plane (12) that is stepwise offset therefrom, and situating between the two a link chain (10) with spreaders (9) which moves perpendicular to the conveying planes (12, 13), holding ready and feeding the envelopes (20) opened up by the spreaders to another station where the contents (21) are inserted into the envelopes.

Description

The invention relates to an inserting device with the features listed in the preamble of claim 1.

Diese sind durch die US-A-3 423 900 bekannt geworden. These are known from US-A-3,423,900.

In this closest prior art, the empty envelopes, the envelope contents and the filled envelopes are brought together and transported away in a common level using continuously rotating conveyors, which is only possible with a solo converter that constantly brings together undefined quantities of envelopes and envelope contents and not into one System of non-rhythmically working document processing systems can be integrated.

The invention, on the other hand, strives for a different mode of operation of an inserting device which, on the one hand, permits a considerable increase in performance and, on the other hand, opens up the possibility by cyclical movements of avoiding the disadvantages of continuously rotating inserting devices. For this purpose, the invention is based on the principle of spreading the envelope and filling the envelope locally from one another to separate and thereby significantly reduce the cycle time.

This problem is solved in the sense of the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.

In the subject of the invention, the cycle time is thus shortened in that the opening of the envelope onto the expansion element (packing bag) takes place at the same time as the contents of the envelope are being inserted into another envelope, and that the time required to insert or remove an envelope is added is used to promote the spreading organs from the receiving station for envelopes into the delivery station.

Advantageous refinements of the invention are disclosed in claims 2 to 6. For example, it is expedient according to claim 2, the conveyors for the envelopes and the envelope contents continuously and to let the link chain circulate gradually. This results in a further increase in performance, because the times for opening the envelope on the expansion element or filling in the envelope contents and removing the filled envelope can be reduced further.

According to claim 3, it is advisable to have the conveyors for the envelopes and the envelope contents in the transfer area in a horizontal plane (one above the other in levels) and the link chain in the vertical direction.

Another object of the invention relates to the special design of the link chain according to claim 4. Thereafter, the link chain consists of two spaced apart and revolving parallel axes around each other, on which the expansion members are each arranged in the same plane directed against each other. The inserted envelope can thus be easily expanded when it is pulled onto the two mutually parallel spreading members, whereby the advantage is achieved that a larger amount of envelope content can be inserted. The spreading elements loaded with the envelope are gradually moved to a raised level, which prevents collisions with the gripping tools for the envelopes. It is therefore expedient for the single chain to have at least four, preferably eight, spreading members arranged at the same distance from one another.

In order to shorten the cycle times, it is provided according to claim 6 of the invention that the conveyor for the envelopes has a plurality of grippers arranged at the same distance from one another for grasping the envelope flaps and takes over the envelopes from a stack pull-off device in its lower run and the one in its upper run Passes envelopes to the expansion organs.

In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1, it is assumed that the envelopes (20) are removed from a stack (1), an intermediate stack or from a specific position with the aid of a removal device (2) and transferred to a conveyor (5). This conveyor (5) is designed, for example, as a rotating toothed belt and is provided with a plurality of grippers (17) and rotates around horizontal axes. It is essential that this conveyor (5) with its upper run (19) forms a conveyor plane (13) which extends horizontally. The lower run (18) of this conveyor (5), on the other hand, extends in the take-off plane of the take-off device (2).

The conveying plane (12) of the conveyor (6) for envelope contents (21) is located at a significant height distance from the conveying plane (13) of the conveyor (5) for envelopes (20). These envelope contents (21) are located in one or more stacks (3), to which deduction devices (4) are assigned. This makes it possible to combine an envelope content (21) consisting of several sheets on the conveyor (6) in order to feed these multiple sheets into the envelope (20) in one pack. However, it is also conceivable to arrange a plurality of stacks (3) for the same envelope contents (21) one behind the other in order to alternately apply the removed envelope contents to the conveyor (6). This makes it possible to reduce the cycle times, namely when the conveying capacity of the conveyor (6) for envelope contents is greater than the feeding capacity of the individual removal device (4).

The conveyor plane (12) of the conveyor (6) for envelope contents (21) runs parallel to the conveyor plane (13) of the conveyor (5) for envelopes (20) and has a clear distance from it. This space between the two conveying levels (12, 13) is filled by a spreading arrangement (7) for envelopes (20), which in turn consists of a link chain (10) which has several spreading elements (9) (packing bags), as detailed in Figures 2 to 4 is shown. The link chain (10) rotates in a vertical conveying plane according to arrow 11 and is intended to bring the spreading elements (9) into the effective range of the grippers (17) of the conveyor (5) for envelopes along the conveying plane (13) and then in raise the height of the conveyor level (12) of the conveyor (6) for envelope contents (21). Because the link chain (10) has a plurality of spreading elements (9) at the same distance one behind the other, the spreading element (9) located in the conveying plane (13) is loaded with the open envelope, while another spreading element (9) located in the conveying plane (12) ) the included spread Envelope (20) ready to insert the contents of the envelope (21) and to pull off the filled envelope.

Accordingly, the cycle times of the inserting machine according to the invention can be significantly reduced, because it is advisable to have the conveyors (5 and 6) circulate continuously, whereas the link chain (10) with the spreading elements (9) is driven step by step.

In the example in FIG. 2, the link chain (10) with spreading members (9) attached to it is shown enlarged. While the lower spreader (9) has not yet received an envelope, the middle and upper spreader (9) show how the envelope (20) with its envelope flap (23) has been pushed onto the spreader (9).

This mounting process can be seen particularly clearly from FIG. 3. The spreading members (9) located in the inner position reach into the edge area of the open envelope (20) and hold it firmly and also form an expansion of the envelope (20). In this position, the envelopes (20) are brought to the level of the conveying plane (12) for the envelope contents (21).

In the example of Figure (4) it can be seen that the link chain (10) is divided into two individual chains (14, 15), which run around each other around parallel horizontal axes (16) and can consist, for example, of toothed belts. The spreading elements (9) of the two individual chains (14, 15) are parallel to one another when they are in the conveying planes (12) or (13). Accordingly, an open envelope is pulled onto two mutually opposite spreading members (9). The individual expansion element (9) therefore only needs to penetrate into the envelope edge assigned to it, which results in a maximum expansion, which also makes it possible to insert a larger amount of the envelope content (21).

Die Figur 5 zeigt in vergrößerter Darstellung, wie das abgezogene und geöffnete Kuvert (20) vom Greifer (17) des Kuvertförderers (5) erfaßt und längs des unteren Trums (18) dieses Kuvertförderers (5) in Pfeilrichtung mitgenommen wird.FIG. 5 shows in an enlarged view how the removed and opened envelope (20) is gripped by the gripper (17) of the envelope conveyor (5) and taken along the lower run (18) of this envelope conveyor (5) in the direction of the arrow.

The arrangement, shown enlarged in FIG. 6, for inserting the envelope contents (21) into envelopes (20) comprises a conveyor (25) provided with drivers (24), whose drivers (24) have the envelope contents (21) on the conveying plane (12) on the back Detect and insert into the ready-made envelopes (20).
