Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a structure of upholstery for seats, especially for vehicle seats of public transport, able to resist lacerations.
  • the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such structures.
  • the element opposing the action of a sharp object is constituted by a sheet of helical springs, partially embedded in an elastomer foam, adhering itself to a layer of a compact elastomer.
  • the coil springs do however exhibit flexibility satisfactory only in one direction.
  • the need to partially drown the sheet of springs in a relatively thick layer of elastomer makes this trim of a rather complex manufacture and consequently relatively expensive.
  • Knitting metallic threads has the advantage to present good flexibility in all directions, on the other hand, the shape of the mesh prohibits the use of metal wires of sufficient diameter to resist effectively to severe laceration.
  • the present invention aims to provide a structure for upholstery for seats, which overcomes the disadvantages mentioned above.
  • the invention aims to propose a upholstery structure for seat that effectively opposes laceration, which is flexible in any direction and which can be made by simple processes, at a reduced cost, compared to the linings of the prior art.
  • the present invention relates to a covering structure for seat, able to withstand lacerations, of the type comprising a sheet of material flexible doubled by a reinforcement, characterized in that the reinforcement is made up of strips or spaced apart from one another, of a material suitable for to oppose the passage of a cutting object, each strip or wire having a sinuous profile made up of curved patterns and / or of patterns comprising repeating straight segments regularly, the similar patterns of the different bands or wires being arranged to juxtapose or nest in corresponding positions such as each strip or wire is spaced from adjacent strips or wires of an imposing interval on a driven sharp object following a straight path necessarily meet in any direction a strip or wire in its path, said bands or wires being either independent of each other, either joined transversely by spacers making body with these bands or wires, and being integral with the sheet of flexible material through at least a layer of adhesive or plastic, in which they are at least partially drowned.
  • the corresponding parts of the adjoining bands or wires can advantageously be spaced by a distance constant.
  • a sheet of decorative covering (tapestry, textile, leather, etc.), can be made integral with the side of the adhesive or plastic layer of which is not integral with the sheet of flexible material.
  • a sheet of decorative coating can be substituted for the sheet of flexible material and serve, instead of it, as a support for the bands or son.
  • the bands or threads of the sheet according to the invention have the important characteristic of not overlapping or intertwine, nor to be joined together by bodies auxiliary in the manner of a mesh, a fabric or a knitting. After having been preformed to the desired profile, they can therefore be simply applied in parallel on a side of the flexible sheet previously coated with an adhesive or a resin which is then caused to polymerize, either strip by strip or thread by thread, when the strips or the wires are independent of each other, either under form of a single frame, when the strips or wires are interdependent transversely of each other, by example by spacers forming part of them.
  • the invention therefore also relates to a method of manufacture of a covering structure for a seat suitable for resist lacerations, this process being characterized in that we apply a first layer of an adhesive or a resin capable of polymerizing on one side of a sheet of a flexible material, in that we then apply to this same face of bands or wires spaced from each other of a material capable of opposing the passage of an object cutting, each strip or wire having a sinuous profile consisting of curved patterns and / or patterns comprising rectilinear segments repeating regularly, the different bands or threads being arranged on the sheet of flexible material so that similar patterns of different bands or wires juxtapose or overlap in positions such that each strip or wire is spaced from bands or wires contiguous to an interval requiring an object cutting edge driven in a rectilinear movement of necessarily meet in any direction a tape or wire in its path, as applied then possibly on the tapes or wires for a second layer of adhesive or resin capable of polymerizing, and in this let the adhesive harden or cure the resin to
  • the bands or wires may be applied on the flexible sheet either independently from each other either as a single framework, depending on whether they are independent or combined transversely by spacers integral with them.
  • Bands or wires should naturally have a sufficient flexibility to allow the element to coating thus produced to deform freely.
  • the coating structure will be in the form of a sheet, which advantageously can be rolled up on itself for storage before use.
  • the bands or wires can be made of metal and / or plastic, possibly reinforced.
  • the bands or wires are integral, the from each other, they form a one-piece frame, which can thus be manufactured to the dimensions of the part of the seat to be fitted with the covering structure, without loss of material due to subsequent dimensioning.
  • cladding structures comprising bands adjoining them by spacers, which will constitute a framework which can be cut with the press in a single operation with the desired dimensions and whose peripheral edges, not cut, form a frame relatively rigid, facilitating the implementation of the invention.
  • the coating structure thus produced is a preferred form of implementation of the invention.
  • Such a structure, in which the strip or wires form a one-piece structure, can further constitute it alone a seat element, for example a backrest seat, which can be easily attached to the frame of the seat.
  • the frame is made up of independent cut strips in a contiguous position in a sheet of material resistant to laceration, especially in a leaf metallic.
  • a such embodiment of the invention one can cut out a plurality of bands of the same profile in a strip unwound from the same reel, leaving adjoining between them the ends of the bands corresponding to the ends of the strip unwound, which then allows, in waiting for use, rewinding the strip in which the strips are precut and adjoining.
  • the strips on the sheet of flexible material it will suffice to separate the bands from each other at their extremities.
  • This may be of any suitable material: fabric, nonwoven, felt, canvas, plastic film or even tapestry intended to form the external face of the seat element, as shown above.
  • the strips may have a thickness of 0.2 to 1 mm and a width of about 1 to 20 mm, to present a satisfactory laceration resistance and, in this case, will space the different bands by a distance of about 5 mm.
  • the strips 1 of material resistant to laceration consist of an estate, alternately, of rectilinear segments 2, of equal width and parallel to each other, and of straight segments 3, also of equal width between them and inclined by 135 ° by compared to the previous ones.
  • Segments 2 and 3 thus form inverted successive trapezoidal profiles, the whole can be considered as an approximate sinusoidal profile consisting of straight portions.
  • Segments 2 and 3 of different bands are parallel to their counterparts of other bands, so the different profiles trapezoidal are nested at a constant distance from each other of the others, so as to be able to oppose in all direction to a cutting tool moved along a path straight and thus avoid deep laceration of the covering ply.
  • the different bands 1 are independent of each other, i.e. they do not are not joined transversely by organs auxiliaries to form grid structures, knitwear or fabrics, and they are not joined together by spacers integral with them.
  • they are simply applied to a tablecloth flexible 4, in fabric for example, previously coated with a first layer 5 of adhesive, and they are then preferably covered with a second layer of adhesive, joining them in a simple and effective way with the fabric 4 and to which a sheet 20 can be applied a tapestry, intended to form the external face of the seat element to be fitted with this structure of coating.
  • sheet 20 of tapestry or similar can possibly replace the flexible sheet 4 and serve directly as a support for the tapes 1.
  • adhesive 6 you can also use a resin of a material capable of polymerizing or applying to the strips a sheet of thermoplastic material, that then heated to its softening temperature or of fusion.
  • the straight segments 2 of a strip may have a length l of about 10 mm, and be separated from the parallel segments 2 of the same strip by a constant interval x of 5 mm.
  • the distance y from the segments of a strip to the corresponding and parallel segments of a contiguous strip will be 5 mm.
  • each strip 7 is again made up of rectilinear segments 8, parallel between them and of equal width, and of segments 9, also of equal width between them, inclined at 135 ° to the previous.
  • Each band includes in this case, successively, two segments 8 parallel to each other, which alternate with two segments 9 parallel to each other and 135 ° inclined compared to the previous ones.
  • the strips 7 have a cumulative length (addition of the lengths of the segments 8 and 9) greater than that of the strips 1 of FIG. 1 and they therefore have greater flexibility.
  • the lengths 1 and the distances x and y may have the same values as in the embodiment of Figure 1, that is to say, respectively, 10 mm, 10 mm and 5 mm.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 can naturally be replaced by wires 10 of circular or oval section, drawing for example approximate sinusoidal profiles, as shown in figure 5.
  • Bands are preferred, however, because, as explained above and as shown in Figure 4, they can be easily cut from the same strip from a reel, the adjoining strips remaining joined at the ends of the strip by parts not cut 12, as well as by lateral fasteners 13, in regularly spaced locations between the ends, which allows you to rewind the cut strip and store easily in the form of a reel. Fasteners 12 and 13 can possibly be eliminated before position the strips on a sheet of flexible material and to make them united.
  • the bands shown in Figures 1 to 4 have a constant width along their entire length, but they can also have variable widths, as we can see in FIG. 6, where the strip 21 is made up of segments rectilinear 21a and 21b of different widths.
  • the bands of the structure according to the invention can be applied independently of each other on the flexible sheet with which they are made integral, but they can also constitute a monobloc framework, cut with the press in a plate with the dimensions of the seat element, in thus minimizing falls and loss of material first. This is illustrated by Figures 7 to 10.
  • the strips 24 have a crenellated profile, consisting of rectilinear segments perpendicular to each other, juxtaposed in an adjoining position so as to oppose the passage of a blade.
  • the strips 24 are cut from the same rectangular plate with the dimensions of the seat element to be fitted and the ends abut two parallel edges 25 not cut from the plaque.
  • the bands 27 are also press cut from a plate 28 and are separated by cutouts 29 of crenellated profile similar to the profile of the strips 24 in FIG. 8.
  • the ends of the strips 27 adjoin two edges 28a parallels of the plate 28.
  • the different bands are contiguous to each other by spacers transverse 30, which interrupt at regular intervals the cutouts 29.
  • bands 32 of profile similar to that of the bands of the Figure 6, are cut from a plate 33 and adjoining by their ends at two opposite edges 33a of this plate.
  • the strips 32 are separated by intervals 34 similar in shape to the profile of the bands in FIG. 1 and they are joined at regular intervals to the bands contiguous by transverse spacers 35, which interrupt intervals 34.
  • the structures according to the invention due to the repeated profiles of the bands or threads they comprise and of the multiplicity of these bands, arranged in preferably at a constant distance from each other, effectively oppose deep laceration of seats fitted with them. It is also clear that these structures are very flexible, which in certain embodiments (those of FIGS. 1, 2, 5 and 6 for example) allows them to be rolled up on themselves as well in the direction of the bands or wires that they comprise only in the perpendicular direction.
  • These structures can be used to cover all parts of a seat, both the seat itself, whether it's an armchair, a sofa or of a bench seat, as the backrest or the armrests.
  • the invention therefore provides a simple and effective means to protect seats, in particular seats for public places, especially for public transport.
