Definitions

  • the invention relates to a removable link capable of being articulated in connection with other similar links so as to form an endless chain of cutting or cutting, this link comprising two side plates which are substantially symmetrical to one another by relative to a plane of symmetry of the link and connected to each other in a removable manner by two transverse members of the bolt type forming axes of articulation with adjacent elements of the chain, this link comprising a support fixed on the plates of the link and carrying the cutting means.
  • the invention also relates to an endless chain for cutting or cutting comprising such links, as well as a machine for digging trenches comprising such an endless chain.
  • Document GB-A-1,128,451 describes a cutting and scraping chain for a machine for digging or cleaning trenches, consisting of links articulated to each other, according to the preamble of claim 1, with scrapers fixed to links, some of which are provided with blades projecting from the chain scraping plane.
  • Figures 1 and 2 show known links 1, consisting of two parallel longitudinal side plates 2 connected to each other at each of their ends by an axis 3, for example a rivet or a bolt, and separated by a roller spacer or roller 4 mounted on each of the axes 3.
  • Two adjacent links 1 of this type are connected to each other by a second pair of parallel longitudinal side plates 5 external to the links 1, also crossed by the axes 3 which pass through the adjacent ends of the two links and free to pivot around said axes.
  • Each assembly forming a link thus consists of two parts articulated with respect to each other, the inner link 1, on the one hand, and the outer plates 5 on the other hand.
  • Links of this type are used for cutting or cutting chains.
  • the two outer plates 5 carry, on the side facing radially outward of the endless chain 6 which rotates in the direction of arrow F, a block 7 supporting cutting tools 8.
  • the outer plates 5 must thus be relatively high to allow the fixing, for example by bolting or welding, of said block 7 at a distance from the aforementioned axes 3.
  • said cutting tools 8 are strongly braked by the cutting or cutting operation, which tends to cause the assembly formed by the outer plates 5 and the block 7 to tilt in the opposite direction to the direction of chain rotation.
  • This tilting causes the shortening of the chain 6, which leads to untimely slowing down or blockages of the chain with the risk of damaging the members for transmitting the movement to the latter.
  • this tilting strongly applies the downstream roller 9 to the guide 10 of the chain 6, which causes premature wear of this roller.
  • the outer plates 5 of the links and the heads of the rivets or bolts 3 are subjected to significant wear caused by the friction of the extracted materials and by that of the side walls of the grooves. or trenches carried out.
  • the cutting chains and in particular the cutting chains are, due to these blockages and slowdowns, subjected to very significant instantaneous forces, and must be extremely robust.
  • each plate in projection on the plane defined by the axes of the two bolt-type members, has a substantially Z-shaped profile, and comprises two sections substantially parallel to said plane of symmetry, offset from one another in the direction perpendicular to the plane of symmetry and connected to each other by an intermediate transverse section, so that in the assembled state of said link, the two inner sections closest to the two plates are adapted to be inserted between the two outer sections furthest from the plates of an adjacent link.
  • the object of the invention is to remedy the known drawbacks, and to propose a link of simple and economical structure, easy to manufacture, to assemble and to change in the event of wear, particularly suitable for cutting and cutting chains.
  • a first object of the invention is a link according to claim 1.
  • each plate has in projection on the plane defined by the axes of the two bolt-type members a profile substantially in Z, and comprises two sections substantially parallel to said plane of symmetry, offset from each other in the direction perpendicular to the plane of symmetry and connected to each other by an intermediate transverse section, so that in the assembled state of said link, the two sections the inner parts closest to the two plates are adapted to be inserted between the two outer sections furthest from the plates of an adjacent link.
  • each of these unit links is connected directly in an articulated manner to the two links which are adjacent to it on a chain around the axes connecting it respectively to these. It is thus possible to remove the external plates of the prior art.
  • the links being in one piece, there is no longer the tilting phenomenon described above, so that the link can have in the direction perpendicular to the plane defined by the two bolts or the like a smaller dimension than that links of the prior art.
  • this block can be installed flush with the roller or roller 4 without having to respect a minimum distance corresponding to the tilting of the internal link 1 relative to the external plates shown at Figure 1.
  • Such a lower dimension means lower cost, less bulk, lower overturning torque.
  • the greater the tensile force applied to the chain the more the chain stretches, the less it twists and locks; in fact, the tensioned chain becomes rigid like a bar at the cutting edge and transmits the torque transmitted to it without blocking or braking.
  • the transmission components suffer less untimely blockages. In the case of chains comprising rollers, these wear less and wear regularly. In general, the chain wears less and has a better overall yield.
  • the support for the cutting tools fixed to the two plates, for example by welding or by bolting, stiffens the latter and keeps the sections of the latter extending parallel over the entire length of the support.
  • the support has a generally convex shape, the cutting means being mounted on the convex face of the support.
  • This convex shape facilitates the penetration of the cutting tools into the material to be cut or into the ground, and notably eliminates the phenomena of tearing and cracking of the material or soil at the angle between the surface attacked by the cutting tools and the walls of the groove.
  • a second object of the invention is an endless chain of cutting or cutting.
  • a third object of the invention is a machine for digging trenches.
  • the chain 12 for trenching 13 of the invention comprises elements comparable to those described above with reference to the known prior art shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • the chain 12 is an endless chain formed of removable links 14 adapted to be connected to other similar links.
  • the links 14 are adapted to be articulated forward in the direction F of movement of the chain around a first transverse member 15 of the bolt or rivet type which, in the assembled state, crosses the front part 16 of the link 14 and the rear part 17 of a preceding link 14, and towards the rear around a second transverse member 15 of the bolt or rivet type which, in the assembled state, crosses the rear part 17 of said link 14 and the front part 16 of a next link 14.
  • the link 14 comprises at least two side plates 18 substantially symmetrical to one another with respect to a plane of symmetry P1 of said link 14 and connected to one another in a removable manner by two transverse members 15 of the bolt type or rivet.
  • each plate 18 has in projection on the plane P2 defined by the axes of the two bolts 15 a profile substantially in Z, and comprises two sections 19, 20 substantially parallel to said plane of symmetry P1, offset from each other in the direction perpendicular to the plane of symmetry P1 and connected to each other by an intermediate transverse section 21, so that in the assembled state of said link 14, the two inner sections 19 closest to each other of the two plates 18 constitute the central core of the link 14 and are adapted to be inserted between the two outer sections 20, the most distant from each other of the plates 18 of an adjacent link 14.
  • the two interior sections 19 preferably constitute the front part of the link 14 and are thus protected by the outer sections 20 of the previous link.
  • the link 14 thus has a general Y shape having a central front core 16 constituted by the two interior sections 19 and two lateral arms formed by the exterior sections 20.
  • Each bolt or rivet 15 carries a support roller 22 rotatably mounted on said bolt 15 and adapted to roll on a guide, shown diagrammatically at 23 in FIG. 7, of the chain 12, in order to transmit the perpendicular component to the guide 23 at plane P2 of the forces resulting from the resistance of the ground 24.
  • Each link 14 comprises a support 25 fixed on said link 14 and carrying cutting means 26; in known manner, the cutting means 26 may be knives, or else peaks comprising at their end a pad inserted in a hard material such as tungsten carbide.
  • Each link 14 generally carries two or three knives or picks, the knives or picks being located transversely in different places on different adjacent links to make the excavation of the ground over the entire width of the trench 13. We have thus shown in Figures 2 and 5 to 8 the knives or picks of several successive links.
  • the link 14 represented in FIGS. 3, 5 and 7 comprises a conventional flat support 25 like the block 7 represented in FIGS. 1 and 2. Such a support makes it possible to dig trenches 13 of substantially rectangular profile as shown in FIGS. 2 and 7.
  • Such cracks 27 are the result of above-average digging forces which have been transmitted by the chain and the transmission members thereof, and which are likely to cause abnormal wear or even a chain break. or one of the transmission components.
  • the ground thus cracked is unstable and tends to collapse, which requires extracting a quantity of material greater than that corresponding to the desired trench, and slows down and increases the digging operation.
  • the link 14 includes a support 28 of generally convex shape, and of convex shape in the particular example shown.
  • the cutting means 26 are mounted on the convex face of the support 28.
  • the support 28 is substantially symmetrical with respect to the plane of symmetry P1 of the link 14.
  • the lateral edges 29 of the support 28 project on either side of the link 14 and are oriented so as to cover and protect the ends of the bolts 15.
  • the angle between the side plate 18 and the concave face 30 of the support 28 is less than 90 °, and the angle A between the tangent to a lateral edge 29 and the adjacent wall of the trench, on the side from the inside of the trench, is clearly greater than 90 ° and is preferably between 120 and 150 °.
  • the plates 18 may have, in particular in large trenching machines, wings extending at right angles outwards to allow easy fixing by screws or bolts of the cutting tool supports.
