Abstract

A cape is used to protect cyclists against the rain. The cape is secured to the bicycle at its lower area in front and/or behind the cyclist by means of front and/or rear intermediate elements. The disclosed rain protection should protect the legs of the cyclist against the rain, even when a light wind is blowing, be easy to handle and safe on the road. For that purpose, the cape is secured to the bicycle well in front and also as far outwards at the back as possible, and as low as required, by means of rectractable or foldable struts (3, 15, 17, 22).

Description

Regenschutzeinrichtung für RadfahrerRain protection device for cyclists
Ausgehend von der deutschen Gebrauchsmusterschrift DE 91 00 727.5 Ul betrifft der Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung eineBased on the German utility model DE 91 00 727.5 Ul, the subject of the present invention relates to a
Rain protection device for cyclists using a rain cape, which is attached in the lower area in front of and / or behind the cyclist via front and / or rear intermediate elements on the bicycle.
Wie sich daraus ent- nehmen läßt, finden ein Umhangoberteil und ein Umhangunter¬ teil Anwendung, welche durch unterbrochene Verbindungen zu einer Einheit zusammengefaßt sind1 and claims 17 to 23 of this known publication define the mode of operation and the construction of this rain protection device. As can be seen from this, an upper cape and a lower cap part are used, which are combined to form a unit by interrupted connections
Furthermore, a front and a rear foldable sheet edge are provided, which serve to spread the lower part of the cape at the lower end. Both arch edges are connected to the lower part of the cape via elastic and detachable connecting parts.
Claim 20 of this known document gives the teaching that the front edge of the sheet is fixed to the front rack and the rear edge of the sheet on the rear rack.
The result is a rain protection device which has a relatively unstable attachment to the bicycle in the lower region, since the two arch edges cannot be connected tightly to the corresponding elements of the bicycle for constructional reasons. Accordingly inaccurate the protective function of this known rain protection device is sufficient.
In addition, this rain protection device affects the steerability of the bicycle and thus the traffic safety, which is evident from the following: The edges of the bow cannot rotate with the handlebar, since they would conflict with the cyclist's legs if they were rotated. The rain cape is pressed against the handlebar by wind. The handlebar usually has no round outer contour. In addition, angular brake handles are mounted on it. So a handlebar rotation is only possible when the rain cape is moving. This is opposed by the fixation of the rain cape at its lower end. Due to its two-part design and deep fastening, the rain cape is difficult to handle.
Conventional rain cloaks only protect against rain from the thigh upwards, since the wind blows the part of the cloak reaching in front of the handlebars to the rear and the side wind causes the cloak to flutter against the body of the cyclist.
Body-like devices, such as DE 84 36 409 Ul, are heavy and must be carried in their shape even in fine weather. The rain protection device according to DE 35 17 967 AI is complex and heavy and has a high air resistance. The roller blind from DE 35 26 208 AI neglects the leg area. There are also cyclists who find such a roller blind construction to be impractical.
The present invention has for its object to provide a rain protection device of the type mentioned fen, which is connected to the bicycle in a functionally and traffic-safe manner in an aerodynamically favorable form and protects the legs against rain - even in light winds. The rain protection device is intended to allow one hand to be stretched out sideways and to be raised up to the head. In addition, it should be possible to use a basket in front of the handlebars and luggage bags hanging to the side and the unrestricted use of the luggage rack.
Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß dadurch gelöst, daßThis object is achieved in that
The front and rear intermediate elements, which are designed as struts and are arranged on both sides of the bicycle, can be pivoted from a locked rest position into a locked working position directed away from the bicycle, and that the rain cape can be attached to the ends of the intermediate elements."
An arrangement according to the following exemplary embodiment protects down to the ankles in non-extreme wind conditions. The rain cape can be attached to the bike as far out as possible and as deep as necessary both in the front and in the back. The attachment of the intermediate elements to the seat post has the advantage that the formation of the rain cape depends only on the body size, but not also on the frame height or that the formation of the intermediate elements is independent of the body size and the frame height.
An arrangement and design of the intermediate elements according to the invention, taking into account a basket located in front of the handlebar, is described below. It will only entered the left side of the bike. The right side is symmetrical.
Fig. 1: The rain cape extends forward over a basket. The front hook 2 attached below prevents the rain cape from being pulled back under the basket. The front intermediate element is designed as a strut 3 and attached to the side of the basket. The rain cape is attached to the strut 3 with a push button 4. The rear intermediate element 5 is angled and fastened to the seat post. At 6a, a rubber rope is connected to the rain cape. The rear end of the rubber rope is designed as a loop and is attached to the intermediate element 5 at 6.
Fig. 3 shows the strut 3 and a bearing part 8, which is attached to the basket 9, seen from the front. 7 is the axis of a joint via which the strut 3 is connected to the bearing part 8. The strut 3 can be folded forward.
Fig. 4 is the top view of Fig. 3 from direction A without showing the basket. The plunger 10 is movable in the longitudinal direction of the strut 3 and is pressed into a notch in the bearing part 8 by a compression spring 11 (FIG. 3). At position 12, the strut 3 rests on the bearing part 8. As a result, the strut cannot swing backwards. In order to fold the strut 3 forward in direction B, the spring force must be overcome so that the plunger 10 is pressed into the strut 3 by the flank 13 of the notch. If the strut 3 is folded forward, lying against the basket, the plunger 10 lies in the notch 14 of the bearing part 8. The strut 3 can also be folded out only by overcoming the spring force. 5, 6 and 7, some contours which occur because of the inclined axes in space and which are not absolutely necessary for understanding are not shown.
Es verschwindet fast vollständig unter dem Sattel.5 shows the rear intermediate element 5 (FIG. 1) in the unfolded state from the front and FIG. 6 shows the view from above. The contour of the saddle is drawn in dotted lines in FIG. 6, as is the intermediate element in the folded state. It almost completely disappears under the saddle.
The intermediate element 5 (Fig. 1) consists of three struts strung together. The inner strut 15 is rigidly clamped on the seat post 16. The strut 17 can be folded forward about the axis 18. In order to arrest the strut 17 when unfolded, the plunger 19 has a flank which is directly directed onto the axis 18. With the exception of this flank, the swivel mechanism is the same as for the intermediate element (FIGS. 3 and 4). The plunger 19 has a shape 20 which extends outwards through the strut 17 and by means of which it can be pushed outwards, which enables the strut 17 to be folded in. From the outer end of the strut 17, another strut 22 leads outwards and downwards. It can be folded inwards about axis 21 and upwards in direction 0. The bearing mechanism including the lock is analogous to the front intermediate element (FIGS. 3 and 4). At the outer end of the strut 22 - is the same as point 6 in Fig. 1 - the rubber rope 7 (Fig. 1) can be hung.
Fig. 7 zeigt das hintere Zwischenelement in eingeklapptem Zustand. Fig. 7 shows the rear intermediate element in the folded state. So that the strut 17, which has a swivel angle α> 90 ° (FIG. 6), lies horizontally in the folded state, the axis 18 is inclined forward at the top. With the features of claim 7, it is possible to reach out a hand sideways and to lead up to the head. The overlapped slots 23 (Fig. 1) are approximately next to the elbow or slightly below - with a hanging arm. The slot height H need not be much larger than the diameter of a covered arm. The low slot height has the advantage that a slight overlap is also required. When one arm is raised, the upper end of the slot moves up to the tip of arrow 24 and the attachment point 6a of the rubber rope to the tip of arrow 25. The rain cape is loosely guided around the rubber rope 7 so that it is held downwards and outwards , but allows the rubber cord to expand. A shirred connection would consume more material, folds laterally and the rain cape would have a larger volume when folded.
