Definitions
- the present invention relates to paper sheets or webs with removable self-adhesive labels and, in particular, to a novel method for producing such paper sheets or webs, in which a pressure-sensitive adhesive and a release paper are applied to a running paper web, at least in the area of the label, and the labels are passed through Paper web are punched out by a punching device. Finally, the invention also relates to a device for performing this method.
- EP-B1-0175719 initially describes several processes for the production of paper sheets or paper webs, in particular of forms, with removable self-adhesive labels which have an undesirably large thickness in the area of the labels and / or in which there is a risk that under Heat or pressure exposure pressure sensitive adhesive leaks beyond the area of the label into the surrounding edge zone, which can lead to sticking.
- a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive and pieces of release paper are first applied to a paper web in the area of the labels. Only then are the labels punched out, punched through the paper web and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (wet punching), but the release paper on the back of the paper web is merely punched out.
- the labels remain fixed in the paper web because the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and the pieces of release paper protrude slightly from the labels on all sides. By the projecting pieces of release paper in turn projecting slightly beyond the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, it is avoided that pressure-sensitive adhesives can escape beyond the area of the release paper and lead to sticking.
- Punching is extremely problematic and delicate with the method described last. Setting up and dressing the corresponding punching device is complex and time-consuming and, moreover, difficult to keep constant over a longer period of time. In order to get the punching under control from a manufacturing point of view, thicker and therefore more expensive release papers than required for the intended use per se must be used. Thicker release papers lead above all to a greater total thickness of the paper sheets or webs in the area of the labels, which makes their handling when stacking, rolling or labeling difficult.
- Punching is also made more difficult by the previous coating with the pressure sensitive adhesive.
- the aqueous acrylic adhesive used in the vast majority of cases moistens the paper web, which results in a reduction in the punching performance. This can be remedied by pre-drying, but this is complex, energy-consuming and also jeopardizes the flatness of the paper web. A laser printer run at the customer can be made difficult or impossible.
- a device suitable for carrying out the method is to be specified.
- Claims 2 to 10 relate to advantageous embodiments of this method.
- the punching is therefore a dry punching, which is carried out only on the paper web before the pressure sensitive adhesive and the release paper are applied.
- the pressure sensitive adhesive is only subsequently applied to the paper web together with the release paper.
- the punched out, i.e. Labels that are no longer connected to the paper web are fixed in their original position in the paper web until this fixing is carried out by the release paper coated with the pressure-sensitive adhesive.
- the punching is not carried out in the finished, so-called pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate, but rather by punching through the paper web alone before it is brought together with pressure-sensitive adhesive and release paper.
- the method according to the invention enables the production of self-adhesive labels on release papers with considerably thinner thicknesses than previously. So the user can select silicone papers from the usual 80 g / m 2 or at least 50 g / m 2 to only 30 g / m 2 reduced.
- the thickness of siliconized foils can be reduced from 50 ⁇ to 20 to 25 ⁇ .
- the punched-out labels are preferably fixed in the paper web between the punching out and the application of the pressure-sensitive adhesive or release paper, preferably by electrostatic or vacuum technology, either on one of the cylinders of the punching device or on an endless conveyor belt which moves with the paper web.
- the release paper is preferably pulled off a roll.
- the release paper can already be coated on the roll with the pressure sensitive adhesive. However, the coating with the pressure sensitive adhesive can also only be carried out immediately before being applied to the paper web.
- the entire surface of the paper web can be laminated with the release paper, which is an advantage if you only want to produce self-adhesive labels.
- the release paper on the other hand, can be cut to only about the size of the labels before being applied to the paper web. This is recommended e.g. for forms that contain only a single, comparatively small label in a larger paper area.
- the pressure sensitive adhesive is applied according to the invention together with the release paper. Subsequently, however, it must bond to the label material so well that it sticks to the back of the label if it is peeled off in use becomes. After the label has been removed, there should be no pressure-sensitive adhesive left on the release paper in the area of the label. This so-called pressure-sensitive adhesive transfer can be supported and accelerated by applying pressure when applying the release paper. If, for example, the paper web is deflected in a punching device with a rotating punching cylinder and the release paper is also applied to the punching cylinder, the punching knives of the punching cylinder exert an increased pressure on the cut edges of the labels, which, as explained, is favorable affects the pressure sensitive adhesive transfer. However, the pressure exerted is much lower than that during punching, so that no problems such as punching occur.
- the device according to the invention is characterized in claim 11, claims 12 to 18 relating to preferred embodiments of this device.
- a sheet of paper produced by the method according to the invention or a corresponding paper web with at least one label that can be removed is finally characterized in claim 19, claim 20 again specifying a preferred embodiment with an extremely thin and only very little releasing paper. It is characteristic that the release paper and the pressure sensitive adhesive application show no punch marks.
- FIG. 1 a single sheet of paper or a form with a removable self-adhesive label is shown in supervision and in two sections.
- FIGS. 2 to 4 show three different devices for executing the method according to the invention for producing such sheets or forms in three different variants. In parts in the figures are provided with the same reference numerals.
- FIG. 1 This shows under a) a form 1 provided with a perforation at the edge from a paper material with a label 2 that can be removed therefrom.
- the label 2 in form 1 is fixed by a piece of separating paper 3 glued to the rear of the label 2 and projecting from all sides on the edge.
- 1 in FIG. 1 denotes a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, which also extends beyond the label on all sides, but is somewhat smaller in area than the release paper piece 3.
- the pressure-sensitive adhesive of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 4 has greater adhesion to the paper of the form 1 or the label 2 than to the release paper 3.
- the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on the back of the label 2 consequently detaches from the release paper 3 when the label is detached, as shown in FIG. 1c) shows.
- a paper web 5 from a roll 6 first runs between a punch cylinder 7 and an object cylinder 8 of a punch device 9.
- the desired labels 2 are punched out of the paper web 5.
- the labels 2 no longer have any connection with the paper web 5.
- a release paper web 11 (for example a silicone paper or also a release film) is drawn off from a further roll 10 and selectively coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive 4 in a coating station 12.
- a cutting device 13 By means of a cutting device 13, individual pieces of release paper 3 coated with pressure sensitive adhesive are cut off from the release paper web 11.
- the coated release paper pieces 3 are subsequently laminated onto the paper web 5 in the area of the labels 2 in a laminating device 14.
- the lamination device 14 here comprises, on the one hand, the already mentioned punch cylinder 7 of the punch device 9 and a lamination cylinder 15.
- the labels 2 punched out of the paper web 5 during the passage between the punch cylinder 7 and the object cylinder 8 remain in their original position in the paper web 5 during the further movement of the paper web 5 until they are fixed there by the laminated release paper pieces 3, they are temporarily opened the punch cylinder 7 fixed.
- the paper web 5 is deflected around it.
- the release paper pieces 3 are already fed through the lamination cylinder 15.
- the punch cylinder 7 then also has the task of acting as an impression cylinder in the lamination process.
- the short-term fixation on the punch cylinder 7 takes place, in particular, electrostatically, the static electricity being generated for this purpose by means of the elements 16.
- the punching cylinder would have to be provided with vacuum suction holes of approx. 1 - 3 mm in diameter, which are periodically activated by suction and release.
- the paper web 5 is deflected around the punching cylinder 7 by 180 °. In principle, however, a smaller deflection angle would be sufficient, although this depends on the size of the labels and the diameter of the punch cylinder.
- the deflection of the paper web 5 and the fixing of the labels 2 could also take place around or on the object cylinder 8.
- the use of the punch cylinder 7 in this regard has the advantage, however, that at the moment the coated release paper pieces 3 are laminated on, the knife edges of the punch cylinder cause a certain additional lamination pressure in the edge area of the labels, which is favorable affects the transfer of the adhesive from the release paper to the labels.
- 17 is also an endless conveyor belt for feeding the release paper web 11 and 18 a drying device for applying adhesive on the release paper web 11.
- the endless conveyor belt 17 is preferably controlled relative to the movement of the paper web 5 in such a way that the separating paper pieces 3 come to lie exactly on the latter in the area of the punched-out labels 2.
- the coating station 12 and the drying device 18 are dispensed with, since here the release paper web is already coated with the pressure-sensitive adhesive 4 on the roll 10.
- the pressure sensitive adhesive coating is not continuous, but rather, as in FIG. 2, selectively interrupted.
- the release paper pieces 3 can thus slightly protrude the pressure-sensitive adhesive layers on the forms.
- the cutting device 13 also does not have to cut through with the pressure sensitive adhesive. Otherwise there are no differences between FIGS. 2 and 3.
- the temporary fixation of the labels 2 does not take place on one of the cylinders of the punching device 9 but on an endless conveyor belt 19 specially provided for this purpose deflected small diameter in order to be able to take over the labels 2 as long as they have not yet been completely punched out of the paper web.
- the distance between the roll 20 and the constriction between the two cylinders 7 and 8 of the punching device 9 should therefore be smaller than the extent of the labels 2 in the longitudinal direction of the paper web 5.
- the labels are again fixed electrostatically on the endless conveyor belt 19. 4, the release paper web 11 is already precoated on the roll 10 with pressure sensitive adhesive. However, the pressure sensitive adhesive application is continuous here and has no gaps as in Fig. 3.
- the devices of Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 could of course also be operated with a continuous pressure sensitive adhesive application on the release paper web.
Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to paper sheets or webs with removable self-adhesive labels and, in particular, to a novel method for producing such paper sheets or webs, in which a pressure-sensitive adhesive and a release paper are applied to a running paper web, at least in the area of the label, and the labels are passed through Paper web are punched out by a punching device. Finally, the invention also relates to a device for performing this method.
In der EP-B1-0175719 werden eingangs mehrere Verfahren zur Herstellung von Papierbögen oder Papierbahnen, insbesondere von Formularen, mit heraustrennbaren Selbstklebe-Etiketten beschrieben, die im Bereich der Etiketten eine unerwünscht grosse Dicke aufweisen und/oder bei welchen die Gefahr besteht, dass unter Wärme- oder Druckeinwirkung Haftkleber über den Bereich der Etiketten hinaus in die umliegende Randzone austritt, was zu einem Verkleben führen kann.EP-B1-0175719 initially describes several processes for the production of paper sheets or paper webs, in particular of forms, with removable self-adhesive labels which have an undesirably large thickness in the area of the labels and / or in which there is a risk that under Heat or pressure exposure pressure sensitive adhesive leaks beyond the area of the label into the surrounding edge zone, which can lead to sticking.
These disadvantages are avoided in the methods according to EP-B1-0175719; however, the labels are not completely punched out of the paper web, but remain connected to the paper web via weakening lines, such as perforations.
In a similar method that is used in practice, a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive and pieces of release paper are first applied to a paper web in the area of the labels. Only then are the labels punched out, punched through the paper web and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (wet punching), but the release paper on the back of the paper web is merely punched out. The labels remain fixed in the paper web because the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer and the pieces of release paper protrude slightly from the labels on all sides. By the projecting pieces of release paper in turn projecting slightly beyond the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, it is avoided that pressure-sensitive adhesives can escape beyond the area of the release paper and lead to sticking.
Punching is extremely problematic and delicate with the method described last.
Punching is also made more difficult by the previous coating with the pressure sensitive adhesive. The aqueous acrylic adhesive used in the vast majority of cases moistens the paper web, which results in a reduction in the punching performance. This can be remedied by pre-drying, but this is complex, energy-consuming and also jeopardizes the flatness of the paper web. A laser printer run at the customer can be made difficult or impossible.
It is a particular object of the present invention to provide a simple and economical process for the production of paper sheets or webs with integrated but fully die-cut self-adhesive labels of the type mentioned at the outset, which avoids the aforementioned disadvantages and can be carried out using considerably thinner release paper. In addition, a device suitable for carrying out the method is to be specified.
The method according to the invention is characterized in claim 1.
In the method according to the invention, the punching is therefore a dry punching, which is carried out only on the paper web before the pressure sensitive adhesive and the release paper are applied. The pressure sensitive adhesive is only subsequently applied to the paper web together with the release paper. The punched out, i.e. Labels that are no longer connected to the paper web are fixed in their original position in the paper web until this fixing is carried out by the release paper coated with the pressure-sensitive adhesive.
According to the invention, the punching is not carried out in the finished, so-called pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate, but rather by punching through the paper web alone before it is brought together with pressure-sensitive adhesive and release paper.
The method according to the invention enables the production of self-adhesive labels on release papers with considerably thinner thicknesses than previously. So the user can select silicone papers from the usual 80 g / m 2 or at least 50 g / m 2 to only 30 g / m 2 reduced. The thickness of siliconized foils can be reduced from 50µ to 20 to 25µ.
With the method according to the invention, higher production speeds can be achieved and, above all, the set-up times of the production machines can be significantly reduced.
The punched-out labels are preferably fixed in the paper web between the punching out and the application of the pressure-sensitive adhesive or release paper, preferably by electrostatic or vacuum technology, either on one of the cylinders of the punching device or on an endless conveyor belt which moves with the paper web.
The release paper is preferably pulled off a roll. The release paper can already be coated on the roll with the pressure sensitive adhesive. However, the coating with the pressure sensitive adhesive can also only be carried out immediately before being applied to the paper web.
The entire surface of the paper web can be laminated with the release paper, which is an advantage if you only want to produce self-adhesive labels. The release paper, on the other hand, can be cut to only about the size of the labels before being applied to the paper web. This is recommended e.g. for forms that contain only a single, comparatively small label in a larger paper area.
The pressure sensitive adhesive is applied according to the invention together with the release paper.
The device according to the invention is characterized in
A sheet of paper produced by the method according to the invention or a corresponding paper web with at least one label that can be removed is finally characterized in
The invention will be explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments in connection with the figures. In Fig. 1, a single sheet of paper or a form with a removable self-adhesive label is shown in supervision and in two sections. FIGS. 2 to 4 show three different devices for executing the method according to the invention for producing such sheets or forms in three different variants. In parts in the figures are provided with the same reference numerals.
First, reference is made to FIG. 1. This shows under a) a form 1 provided with a perforation at the edge from a paper material with a
In the device of FIG. 2, a
So that the
In the example of FIG. 2, the
The deflection of the
In FIG. 2, 17 is also an endless conveyor belt for feeding the
Finally, for the production of single sheets or single forms from the
