Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an electrical connection for bundles of shielded cables, ensuring the electrical continuity of the shields during the electrical connection of said bundles.
  • harnesses For the transmission of information and commands, in particular in aircraft such as helicopters, it is necessary to form bundles of electric cables, also called “harnesses".
  • electrical cables In such harnesses, approximately 25% of electrical cables are shielded cables, comprising one or more conductors.
  • the shielding of these cables is necessary to limit interference, either by radiation of the signals which they carry, risking disturbing the environment, or because of their sensitivity to radiation from of the environment.
  • these harnesses are themselves surrounded by shielding, which allows overall protection of all cables, shielded or unshielded, forming said harnesses.
  • an electrical connecting conductor is connected to the shielding of each of the shielded cables of the bundle, for example by means of a heat-sealable sleeve comprising a solder ring arranged under a heat-shrinkable sheath.
  • These electrical connecting conductors are provided, at their free end, with a pin for connection intended to come into contact with a cooperating connection pin connected to the shielding of another beam, during the electrical connection of these beams.
  • bridging between the different shields is also carried out by means of electrical connection conductors, so as to connect them electrically to each other, which makes it possible to use only one connection pin. for connection to another beam, but which however requires, as previously, to practice welding between the shields and the associated electrical connecting conductors.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and relates to a connector making it possible to ensure the electrical continuity of the shields during the electrical connection of bundles of shielded cables, without resorting to the difficult and bulky arrangement, as explained above, of electrical connecting conductors.
  • the electrical connector intended for the electrical connection of shielded bundles of electrical cables, at least some of said electrical cables being shielded, said connector being connected, by one of its ends, to a shielded bundle electrical cables to connect and, at the other end, to a connector associated with said bundle and intended to make the electrical connection with a cooperating connector associated with at least one other bundle of shielded cables, is characterized in that its end opposite said bundle is made in the form of a tube formed to receive on its external face the shielding of said bundle, the bundle cables passing through the hollow internal space of the tube, and in that said fitting comprises an internal tube, of smaller diameter than said tube, which is fixed coaxially to the latter, with establishment of a connection electrical between the two tubes, the outer face of said inner tube being formed so as to allow the realization of an electrical connection with the shielding of each of the shielded electrical cables.
  • the electrical continuity of all the shields of a bundle to all the shields of another bundle is obtained directly by the mechanical connection of each fitting with the associated connector and by the connection of said cooperating connectors, this making it possible to remove the pins. connection used in known devices to ensure the electrical connection of shields.
  • the connector according to the invention avoids, above all, the difficult and bulky arrangement of the electrical connecting conductors used in the known devices, which provides very many advantages.
  • the electrical connection is such that said tube and said internal tube are offset relative to each other along their axis, said tube projecting from said internal tube opposite said connector and said internal tube protruding from said tube opposite said shielded beam.
  • said connector is produced in two symmetrical parts, which facilitates the production of said connector and also the automation of the manufacture of the beams.
  • Said tubes can have various shapes in section, for example a circular section or an oval section, which makes it possible to adapt the fittings to the shape of the bundle or to that of the associated connector.
  • said connector may include a transverse base plate, allowing it to be connected to an electrical connector provided with a module holder and a wiring chamber, such as that described in EP-A-0 619 625 or EP-A-0 619 626.
  • the present invention also aims to specify and improve the connection obtained by the implementation of the connector according to the invention.
  • said connector is not a separate element but constitutes a part of the connector.
  • the unshielded cables pass through the hollow internal space of the internal tube, the shielded cables pass through the space between said internal tube and said tube and are fixed to the face external of said internal tube, and the shielding of the beam is fixed on the external face of said tube.
  • the connector of the invention can be used differently. Provision may in fact be made for said electrical cables to pass through the hollow internal space of said inner tube and to the shielding of each of the shielded cables is connected an individual electrical conductor, said individual electrical conductors bypassing the end of the inner tube opposite of the connector and being fixed on the external face of said internal tube, the shielding of the bundle being fixed on the external face of said tube.
  • the means of fixing the shields on said tubes may, for example, comprise a cable-clamping ring, associated if necessary with conductive adhesive, or a conductive sheath, in particular a sheath made of a material known commercially under the name VITON (brand filed).
  • one of the main aims of the invention is to eliminate the electrical connecting conductors, it will be noted that it is nevertheless possible in certain cases, using the connector according to the invention as described above, to resort to to individual connecting conductors.
  • Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end of a bundle of electrical cables.
  • Figure 2 is a partial longitudinal section schematically illustrating the connection of a bundle of electrical cables, by means of a connector according to the present invention.
  • Figure 3 is a perspective view of a connection similar to that of Figure 2 with a partial cutaway at the connector.
  • Figure 4 is a cross section along the line IV-IV of Figure 2 showing the connector according to the invention.
  • FIG. 5 is a partial longitudinal section illustrating another mode of connection using the connector of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 6 is a perspective view showing the connector used for the connection in FIG. 5.
  • the object of the present invention is to ensure electrical continuity of the shields during the electrical connection of bundles of shielded cables, similar to the bundle 1 shown in FIG. 1.
  • Said bundle 1 comprises electrical cables 2, 3, some of which are shielded and others not.
  • the unshielded cables 2 consist of at least one electrical conductor 4 surrounded by an insulating sheath 5, for example made of plastic.
  • the shielded cables 3, for their part, comprise inside to outside, in addition to an electrical conductor 4 and an insulating sheath 5 identical to those of unshielded cables 2, a metal shield 6, for example made of copper, and an insulating sheath 7.
  • this electrical continuity of the shields is obtained by associating with each of the harnesses to be connected, an electrical connection 28, made of a conductive material and shown in FIGS. 2 to 6. Said electrical connection 28 is secured, by the 'one of its ends 29, of the bundle 1 to be connected and, by its other end, of a conductive element 16, which will be explained below and which is associated with the usual electrical connector (not shown), used for the connection.
  • the connector 28 is intended to be connected, on the one hand, to the shields of a bundle 1 and, on the other hand, to an associated connector (not shown).
  • Said connector 28, of axis Y-Y has at its end 29 opposite the bundle 1, two tubes 30 and 31, of circular sections and of different diameters.
  • Said tubes 30 and 31 are arranged, coaxial with the axis YY, being offset relative to each other along said axis YY, so that the tube 31, of smaller diameter, is more extended towards the bundle 1 and less extended towards the connector than the tube 30.
  • These tubes 30 and 31 are, moreover, connected together by conductive walls 32 and 33 fixed respectively to each of said tubes.
  • Said connector 28 is fixed by its face 34 opposite to the harness 1 to a transverse base plate 35 making it possible to connect it to an electrical connector provided with a module holder and a wiring chamber, identical to the connectors described in the documents EP-A-0 619 625 and EP-A-0 619 626.
  • the connector 28 consists of four identical segments 28A, 28B, 28C and 28D fixed together (see for example Figures 4 and 6). According to another embodiment, said connector only consists of two parts, for example a first part formed by segments 28A and 28B and a second part formed by segments 28C and 28D.
  • the unshielded cables 2 are routed through the hollow internal space 37 of the tube 31, while the shielded cables 3 are routed to through the space 38 between the two tubes 30 and 31.
  • Said shielded cables 3 are, moreover, distributed radially and are brought into contact with the external face 39 of said tube 31.
  • Each of said shielded cables 3 is stripped on a stripping area 40, thus exposing the shielding 6, said areas 40 being distributed along a plane (not shown) transverse to the axis Y-Y.
  • the cables 3 are fixed to the external face 39 of the internal tube 31 by a conductive fixing means 41 surrounding said cables at the bare areas 40.
  • said fixing means 41 is, moreover, in contact with the tube 31, it makes it possible to establish an electrical connection between the connector 28 and the shields 6 of the cables 3.
  • the tube 30 has a diameter substantially equal to the sheath 11 of the envelope 8 of the bundle.
  • the shield 10 of the bundle is fixed to the external face 43 of said tube 30, by a fixing means 42, for example a cable clamp ring or a sheath, which surrounds said shield 10 (after stripping of the sheath of protection 9), thus establishing an electrical contact between said shield 10 and said connector 28.
  • both the unshielded cables 2 and the shielded cables 3 are routed through the internal space hollow 37 of the inner tube 31, the unshielded cables 2 being disposed near the axis YY and the shielded cables 3 being distributed radially outwards.
  • the tube 31 with a larger diameter than in FIGS. 2 to 4.
  • Each of the shielded cables 3 is associated with an electrical conductor 44 fixed by one 45 of its ends, for example by welding, on the bare area 40 of the corresponding shielded cable 3. Said electrical conductors 44 bypass the end 46 of the inner tube 31 opposite the bundle 1 and are brought into contact with the face external 39 of said tube 31 to be fixed therein by the fixing means 41.
  • said connector 28 is connected, at its face 35 opposite the bundle 1, to a conductive element 16 associated with the connector and shown diagrammatically in FIGS. 2 and 5, in order to clearly demonstrate that it can have a plurality of shapes adapted each time to the connector used.
  • It can, for example, consist of a connecting element, such as an axially movable screw (not shown) which can be arranged on a tubular end of the connector, making it possible to removably connect the connector to the connector.
  • a connecting element such as an axially movable screw (not shown) which can be arranged on a tubular end of the connector, making it possible to removably connect the connector to the connector.
