Definitions

  • the field of the present invention is that of telescoped type ammunition.
  • These munitions generally include a case made up a cylindrical envelope, carrying at each end a cap, and inside which are arranged a projectile and propellant charge.
  • the projectile is entirely inside the case and it is necessary to provide means ensuring its axial and radial retention relative to the envelope of the case.
  • the patent FR2679991 (cf. the preamble of claim 1) describes various means allowing a axial retention of the projectile relative to the envelope.
  • These means may include a rear end stop carried by an igniter and a front stop constituted by a ring elastic disposed in a groove of the front cap.
  • the front caps and rear move relatively to the casing, which may cause the projectile to tip over detrimental to a good placement of the latter in the barrel of the weapon.
  • Patent US4770098, DE1919954 and US3482516 describe ammunition in which the projectile is kept between a front plug and a rear stop surface secured to the case or to a rear part of the ammunition.
  • the document FR2679991 describes other means of support which combine a stop surface fitted on the front cap and an elastic ring arranged in a groove of the same plug.
  • such rings generally have a slot allowing their placement in a groove and this slot constitutes an area of asymmetry of the ring.
  • These holding means are also designed simple and they allow easy mounting of the projectile to inside the case.
  • the subject of the invention is a munition of the type telescoped and comprising a case, consisting of an envelope cylindrical with a plug at each end, and at inside which a projectile and a propellant charge, ammunition comprising means ensuring the axial retention of the projectile relative to the envelope, ammunition characterized in that the means of axial support consist only of a cap comprising a cylindrical central part integral with a front part of the projectile and carrying a flange annular, made integral with the front plug by means of fixation, and which has a symmetry with respect to the axis of the ammunition.
  • the collar ring seal closes the front of the envelope.
  • the fixing means consist of a weld of the collar on the front cap.
  • the front plug carries a metal reinforcement ring and the fixing means are formed by pinching the collar between the ring and the front cap.
  • the part cylindrical center of the cap has axial slots evenly distributed angularly as well as spouts fitted at one end and intended to be housed in a projectile groove so as to ensure the connection between cap and projectile.
  • the annular flange carries an annular rupture initiator.
  • This initiation of rupture could be a thinning circular of the collar, thinning whose diameter is substantially equal to that of the central part cylindrical of the cap.
  • the cap can be made integral with a front part of the shoe at the bore.
  • the nose may also include a bore in the level of which the cap will be made integral.
  • a munition 1 according to the invention comprises a case, consisting of an envelope cylindrical 2 closed by a front plug 3a and a plug rear 3b.
  • the caps are made of plastic and have metal reinforcements.
  • the front plug 3a carries a reinforcement ring 4a and the rear plug 3b carries a reinforcing plate 4b.
  • the ring 4a has an annular fold 5 which hooks by elastic deformation on a groove peripheral 6 fitted on the plug 3a.

  • a projectile 8 Inside the case are arranged a projectile 8 and a propellant charge (not shown).
  • the projectile 8 comprises a sub-calibrated bar 9 arranged in a threaded bore 10 of a shoe 11 to the gauge.
  • the shoe 11 comprises several segments intended to hold the bar during the firing then to release it at the exit of the barrel of the weapon.
  • the bar carries a thread which allows its secured to the shoe at bore 10.
  • the bar 9 carries at its rear part a tail 12 to which a shim 13 is fixed.
  • the latter ensures radial retention of the projectile relative to the envelope 2 as well as the guidance of the projectile relative to it.
  • the shoe carries at its front part a belt 14 which is adjusted in an axial bore 15 of the front plug 3a.
  • the belt is intended to ensure the seal between the projectile and the barrel of the weapon.
  • the axial retention of the projectile 8 relative to the envelope 2 is provided by a cap 16 integral with the shoe 11 of the projectile.
  • the cap 16 is shown in detail in Figures 2a and 2b. It comprises a cylindrical central part 17 of which the diameter is substantially equal to that of bore 10.
  • This central part carries a thread which allows the securing of the cap 16 and the shoe of the projectile to bore level 10.
  • the cap also includes an annular collar 19 which is intended to be made integral with the plug 3a by fixing means.
  • the fixing means consist of a pinch of the collar 19 between the ring 4a and the front plug 3a.
  • the part of the collar 19 which is pinched is a thinned edge 20 which also constitutes a primer for flange break 19.
  • the rim 20 breaks when the firing of the ammunition without causing a non-axial impact on the projectile.
  • the collar 19 also acts as a seal for ammunition and helps prevent moisture outside to get inside the case.
  • the cap alone ensures the axial retention of the projectile relative to the front plug 3a, it is therefore no need to provide a shoulder on the plug 3a or a rear stop for the projectile.
  • Such an arrangement also has the advantage ensure the axial immobilization of the projectile without maintain the material of the belt in compression 14 against the plug 3a. This improves the hold in time of the ammunition.
  • Figure 3 shows the detail of the front part of a ammunition produced according to such a variant.
  • the front plug 3a has a counterbore 29 in which is housed the flange 19 of the cover 16.
  • the fixing of this cap on the front plug 3a is made by ultrasonic welding at the counterbore 29.
  • the fixing of the cap on the projectile 8 is made by screwing the threaded cylindrical part 17 in the bore 10 of the shoe.
  • FIG 4 shows another munition according to the invention in which the projectile 8 is of the caliber of the weapon.
  • the means for radially holding this projectile 8 relative to the casing 2 of the ammunition include a nose 21, made of plastic, and which has a internal profile corresponding to the external profile of a warhead 22 of projectile 8.
  • the internal profile of the nose ends with a cylindrical bore 23.
  • the nose 21 is made integral with the projectile 8 by a rim 24 which penetrates elastically into a groove 25 arranged on the projectile.
  • the nose 21 has holes 26 for axes parallel to the axis of the projectile and evenly distributed angularly. These holes have the function of weaken the nose and allow its separation from the projectile at the exit of the barrel from the weapon by the action of force centrifugal.
  • the nose 21 has a cylindrical external profile 27 which allows its adjustment in the front plug 3a.
  • a wedge 28 which is fixed to the rear part of the projectile and which also provides guidance for the latter relative to envelope 2.
  • the axial retention of the projectile 8 relative to the envelope 2 is provided by a cap 16 which is made secured to the projectile 8 at the level of the nose 21.
  • the cap 16 is shown in detail in Figures 5a and 5b.
  • the cap 16 has a central part cylindrical 17, of diameter equal to that of bore 23, and on which a thread is fitted. This last is screwed onto a thread carried by bore 23 nose 21.
  • the cap 16 also includes a collar annular 19 which is intended to be made integral with the plug 3a by fixing means.
  • the fixing means consist of a pinch of the collar 19 between the ring 4a and the front plug 3a.
  • the part of the collar 19 which is pinched is a thinned edge 20 which also constitutes a primer for flange break 19.
  • the rim breaks when the ammunition without causing a non-axial impact on the projectile.
  • the collar 19 also acts as a seal for ammunition and helps prevent moisture outside to get inside the case.
