Definitions
- the invention relates to a device adapter for use in association with a projectile with deployable wings, such as a missile, to allow the firing of such a projectile from a small diameter launch tube, such than a tube of mortar or cannon.
- the invention allows in particular the firing of projectiles with optical fiber guidance, or analogues, from a launch tube of standard dimensions, without having to modify this one.
- the projectile is guided in flight by deployable wings that come to lodge before firing in recesses provided for this purpose in the outer shell of said projectile.
- This arrangement makes it necessary to mount the fins on the envelope via articulated mechanisms complex.
- the presence of the recesses in the outer shell of the projectile leads to reduce the useful volume available inside the envelope of the projectile.
- the subject of the invention is precisely a adapter device designed to allow the firing of a projectile such as a missile from a tube of standard launch of small diameter, such as a tube mortar or barrel, without modification of said tube and without requiring housing or joints complex for mounting guide vanes on the outer shell of the projectile.
- a projectile such as a missile from a tube of standard launch of small diameter, such as a tube mortar or barrel
- an adapter device designed to to be interposed between a projectile, provided with fins deployable, able to occupy a folded position, and a standard launching tube
- said device being characterized in that it comprises a retaining ring adapted to be mounted on an open end of the tube of launch, an adapter tube able to be placed around of the projectile, so that the fins folded position are housed in a first part of the adapter tube, and means for attaching the tube adapter on the retaining ring, in a position such that the first part of the adapter tube is located outside the launch tube and that a second part of the adapter tube is received in the launch tube.
- the adapter device makes it possible to fire a projectile equipped with deployable fins from a tube of standard launch whose inside diameter is at hardly greater than the inside diameter of the body of the projectile without the need to modify the launch tube.
- the mounted retaining ring on the launch tube serves as anchor to the means hanging from the adapter tube in which is placed the projectile.
- the mounting of the retaining ring on the launch tube can in particular be realized by friction, by giving said ring the shape of a Split ring that is tightened with a bolt interposed between its ends.
- the wings folded of the projectile are received in the front part of the tube adapter, which serves as a guidance to the projectile when shooting is done.
- the first part of the adapter tube includes longitudinal guide grooves opening inside the adapter tube, so that to be able to receive each wing of the projectile.
- the first part of the tube advantageously comprises external ribs longitudinal and each of said guide grooves longitudinal is formed in the corresponding one said longitudinal outer ribs.
- the first part of the tube comprises a outer ring adjacent to the second part of the tube adapter and able to come to bear against a open end of the launch tube.
- the attachment means are then interposed between the retaining ring and the outer ring of the adapter tube.
- the attachment means may include mechanisms to onesie.
- the device further comprises transport elements removable ones including a front protection cap and a rear protection cap, suitable for placing respectively on the front and rear ends of the projectile covered tube adapter, and a strap transporting said protective caps.
- an open end of adapter tube is intended to be placed behind auxiliary propellants of the projectile.
- the projectile is a fiber optic guided missile.
- the adapter tube includes usually a closed end, opposite the first part of it, and a pulley the optical fiber mounted inside said closed end.
- the launch tube is advantageously a mortar tube.
- forward and backward refer to respectively at the front and the rear of the projectile placed in the launch tube through the adapter device.
- the invention relates to a device adapter 10 intended to be interposed between a projectile 12 such as a fiber guided missile optical and a standard launch tube 14 such as a mortar tube, to allow a shot of the projectile 12 without it being necessary to modify the tube of launch.
- a projectile 12 such as a fiber guided missile optical
- a standard launch tube 14 such as a mortar tube
- the projectile 12 comprises a cylindrical body on which are articulated fins 16 (Figure 2) able to occupy a position folded illustrated in solid lines and a position deployed (not shown).
- the fins 16 are four, regularly distributed on the circumference of the body of the projectile.
- Each fins 16 is flat and located in a plane passing through the longitudinal axis of the body of the projectile.
- With respect to its articulation axis 18 on the body of the projectile each fin 16 is capable of folding towards the front of the projectile 12, so that its edge turned forward when the fins are deployed comes up against the surface circumference of the projectile body when the fins 16 are folded.
- the projectile 12 also includes thrusters 18 (for example the number of two) who lead to the circumferential surface of the body of the projectile, at the front of the fins 16 when these are in the folded position.
- thrusters 18 for example the number of two
- the projectile 12 is guided by an optical fiber 20 used, in known manner, to ensure the transmission information between said projectile and a command (not shown), after firing the projectile.
- the optical fiber 20 is stored on a coil 21 placed in the rear part of the body of the projectile 12. It exits said body through a central hole formed on the back side of it.
- the optical fiber 20 then travels along the inner wall of the tube 14 or outside the body of the projectile 12, according to a trajectory that will be specified later, before exit through the open end of the launch tube 14 to join the command post.
- the adapter device 10 essentially comprises a ring of retainer 22, intended to be attached to the end open launch tube 14, an adapter tube 24 designed to be placed around the body of the projectile 12 and attachment means 26 of the adapter tube 24 on the retaining ring 22.
- the retaining ring 22 is intended to be clamped on the launch tube 14, to immediate proximity to its open end, without that it is necessary to make a modification or any machining of said tube. So, the ring of retainer 22 may especially be a split ring of which the ends can be brought closer to one of the other by a quick-clamping device such as a bolt 28. The tightening of the bolt 28 has the effect of frictionally fasten the retaining ring 22 of the end of the launch tube 14.
- the ring of retaining 22 On its outer surface, the ring of retaining 22 carries part of the attachment means 26 intended to immobilize the adapter tube 24 by relative to said ring when a projectile assembly 12 - adapter tube 24 is placed on the launch tube 14.
- said part of the means of attachment 26 comprises two mechanisms to toggle switches 30 mounted in locations diametrically opposite on the outer surface of the retaining ring 22.
- the tube adapter 24 is a tube of slightly length less than that of the projectile 12 and whose diameter interior is uniform and slightly higher than outer diameter of the body of the projectile.
- the end before adapter tube 24 is open while the rear end of said tube is closed by a bottom 32.
- the adapter tube 24 can be placed around the body of the projectile 12, so that the front end of the projectile 12 protrudes on a certain length out of the front end open end of the adapter tube 24.
- the rear end of the projectile 12 is then located inside the tube adapter 24, at a distance from the bottom 32 of said tube. This last distance is determined by the supported against the open front end of the launch tube 14, an outer ring 34 which is an integral part of the adapter tube 24.
- this arrangement allows to mount a pulley 36 of the fiber optical 20 on the inner face of the bottom 32 of the tube 24.
- the optical fiber 20 travels on the return pulley 36 and returns to the end open front of the launch tube 14, between the tube adapter 24 and the projectile 12, to go then to the control station (not shown).
- the part of the optical fiber 20 which between the adapter tube 24 and the projectile 12 pass in a sheath (not shown) provided for this effect inside the adapter tube. This sheath ensures the mechanical and thermal protection of the fiber optical 20 when launching the projectile 12.
- the outer ring 34 is provided with a other part of the hooking means 26 of the tube adapter 24 on the launch tube 12.
- this other part of fastening means 26 comprises two hooks 48 located in diametrically opposed locations on the outer surface of said outer ring 34.
- latching mechanisms 30 mounted on the ring of 22 are arranged so as to be able to come into taken on the hooks 48 when the adapter tube 24 is placed in the launch tube 14. The tube adapter 24 is then immobilized relative to the tube launch 14.
- the outer ring 34 is located substantially in the middle of the adapter tube 24 and separates it in a first part 38, located in front of said outer ring and a second part 40 located behind said outer ring.
- the first part 38 of the adapter tube 24 includes longitudinal guide grooves 42 (Figure 2) each of which is intended to receive one fins 16 of the projectile 12. More precisely, each of the longitudinal guide grooves 42 is formed in a longitudinal outer rib 44 of the 24 adapter tube and opens inside said tube over its entire length. In addition, the number and distribution of the ribs 44 around the adapter tube 24 and the number and distribution of fins 16 around the body of the projectile 12 are identical. In the embodiment shown, there are four fins 16 and four ribs 44, regularly distributed around the body of the projectile 12 and around the adapter tube 24, respectively. Each of the longitudinal guide grooves 42 also opens at its front end, so that the projectile can be introduced and extracted from the adapter tube 24 by the front of it.
- the front end of the first part 38 of the adapter tube 24 is reinforced by a ring outer segment 46, between the outer ribs longitudinal 44.
- the second part 40 of the adapter tube 24, located behind the outer ring 34, has a uniform outer diameter, slightly less than the inside diameter of the launch tube 14 from which the projectile must be fired. So, the second part 40 of the adapter tube 24 can be introduced by the open front end of the tube launch 14, after the retaining ring 22 has been mounted on the launch tube 14.
- the ribs 44 formed on the front part adapter tube 24 are used to ensure the guidance of the folded fins 16 of the projectile 12, when of its launch.
- the booster thrusters 18 are then placed in front of the segmented outer ring 46 which delimits the front end of the front part of the adapter tube 24. The jets emitted by these thrusters 18 thus bear on said ring 46 during the Firing.
- the whole formed by the projectile 12 and the adapter device 10 is intended to be transported easily on the shooting site, where is the tube of launch 14.
- the adapter device 10 further includes a protective cap before 48, intended to be placed on the front end of the projectile 12, a rear protective cap 50, intended to be placed on the rear end of the tube adapter 24, closed by the bottom 32, as well as a transport strap 52, which connects the plugs of front 48 and rear 50 protection. 50 form with the strap 52 of the transport elements removable from the assembly formed by the projectile 12 and its adapter tube 24. These transport elements removable are deposited upon arrival at the site of launch.
