Abstract

A front clip for a safety binding with a housing base (3) securable to a ski and a housing top (2) which has at least one adjustable release spring (4) and two pivoting sole holders (14a, 14b) on which said release spring acts, in which, with the front clip in its operative position, the housing top (2) can pivot about a transverse axis (Q) running substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal central axis (L) of the front clip and the pivoting range of the housing top in relation to the housing base is limited by a horizontally movably fitted locking member (15, 115) in the base (3) or top (2) of the housing with at least one stop surface (32a1, 32b1, 32a2, 32b2, 32a3, 32b3, 32a4, 32b4). Said locking member (15, 115) co-operates, with the ski binding in the operative position, with a stop (29a, 29b) on the top or base of the housing so that the pivoting movement of the housing top in relation to the base is restricted in this position.

Description

The invention relates to a toe piece for a safety binding, with a lower part of the housing which can be fastened to a ski and an upper part which has at least one adjustable release spring and two pivotable sole holders which are acted upon by this release spring, the upper part of the housing in the position of use around a substantially normal to the longitudinal central axis of the Front jaw lying transverse axis is pivotable and the pivotability of the upper housing part with respect to the lower housing part is limited by a locking means.

A toe piece, in which an adjustment of the height of the sole holder to the height of the shoe sole is possible by pivoting the upper part of the housing relative to the lower part of the housing, is apparent from DE-OS 39 37 363. In this known toe piece, the upper part of the housing is formed in one piece with the lower part of the case, with a resilient area in the front area of the cheek piece, which allows the upper part of the toe piece to be pivoted to a limited extent in order to adapt the position of the sole hold-down device to the sole height. This flexurally elastic region is created by a horizontal slot which is formed in the front part of the jaw between the release spring and the ski surface. The locking means is realized, on the one hand, by a nose projecting towards the rear, which is formed in one piece with the upper housing part, and, on the other hand, by a spring-loaded rocker arm mounted in the lower housing part or a projecting nose which is formed in one piece with the lower housing part.

Such a device has a number of disadvantages. The strength of the housing of the ski binding is weakened by the above-mentioned slot, as a result of which material fatigue and consequently breakage of the housing can easily occur. Furthermore, the pivotability of the housing is blocked when this slot is dirty or iced up, the risk of breakage additionally increasing due to overloading of the sole hold-down device. Due to the one-piece molded locking means, the front jaw is also complex and therefore expensive to manufacture.

A front jaw consisting of two housing parts, which is assembled by pivoting one housing part relative to the other about a transverse axis, has become known from DE-OS 39 42 157. In the position of use, the two housing parts are then screwed to one another by means of a vertically arranged screw, with the screw simultaneously adjusting the height of the sole holder. This screw and the counter thread provided in the lower housing part thus form the locking means for this known front jaw. A disadvantage of this device is that the sole holder must be readjusted by a service man when using different ski boots for each shoe. In addition, the centrally arranged screw prevents a structurally advantageous arrangement of the release spring.

A further device which enables a change in the height of the sole hold-down device of a toe piece is described in AT-PS 361 823. In this device, a hold-down arm acted upon by a spring is pivotably arranged on a transverse axis above the release spring. Height-adjustable sole hold-down devices are attached to this hold-down arm. However, the change in height of the sole hold-down device that occurs due to the pivoting of the hold-down arm in this device serves to release the ski boot upwards in the event of a release, and not to adapt the ski binding to different shoe soles, which is still carried out by means of adjusting screws. This device is therefore not suitable for automatic adaptation of the sole hold-down devices to different shoe soles and moreover has disadvantages, for example the side sole holders and the sole hold-down devices cannot be formed in one piece.

The proper functioning of a front binding of a ski binding depends very much on its correct setting. The adjustment of the height of the sole holder, which is usually carried out by a service technician, is particularly critical. This setting is very time consuming, since it has to be carried out extremely precisely so as not to influence the trigger behavior of the toe piece.

An object of the invention is, on the one hand, to simplify the assembly of a toe for a ski binding and, on the other hand, to limit the automatic height adjustment of the sole holder made possible by the pivotability of the two housing parts.

In particular, it is an object of the invention to find a configuration which is as simple and compact as possible and which, at the same time, is a simple assembly of the toe piece automatic adjustment of the height of the sole hold-down to the height of the shoe sole enables and the behavior of the release spring is not affected.

According to the invention, this is done by means of a front jaw of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the locking means has a locking piece with at least one stop surface which can be displaced horizontally in the lower housing part or the upper housing part and which, in the use position of the ski binding, interacts with a stop provided on the upper housing part or the lower housing part, as a result of which the pivoting movement of the upper housing part with respect to the lower housing part is limited in this position.

The horizontally displaceable locking piece offers the advantage of delivering the front jaws in a ready-to-use form by presetting a position of use, whereby the serviceman can make any necessary adjustments regarding the pivotability of the upper housing part very quickly and yet precisely by means of this locking piece. This solution also offers additional advantages when the toe piece is triggered backwards or diagonally.

The solution according to the invention can be implemented in different embodiments with regard to the locking piece. In the simplest case, the locking piece has a single horizontal stop surface, whereas other versions have at least two different stop surfaces, one of which optionally serves to limit the pivoting movement of the upper housing part with respect to the lower housing part. This pivoting movement can thus be restricted to a predeterminable amount. This measure also increases the stability of the ski boot in the toe.

A particularly advantageous embodiment of a front jaw according to the invention is that in which a spring is provided in the upper and / or lower housing part, which acts on the pivoting movement of the upper housing part with respect to the lower housing part in the direction of the use position. This spring force can either be the release spring itself, which acts on the lower housing part via a spring lever, or a separate spring, in particular a leaf spring, can be provided for this purpose, which acts between the upper housing part and the lower housing part. This spring force automatically and continuously adjusts the height of the sole holder to the height of the ski shoe sole when the user steps into the binding with his ski shoe.

Further details and design features of the toe piece according to the invention result from the dependent subclaims.

When developing new ski bindings, several factors generally have to be taken into account. So far, such factors have been, for example, operational safety and related new technical features or simple and inexpensive production while maintaining the required technical functional features. Over the past few years, however, another factor has been added, namely a quick and precise adjustability of the binding, whereby, especially in the rental business, it is usually required that the ski binding can be adapted to different ski shoes or users with a few hand movements or even automatically. The invention explained below on the basis of different embodiments relates to a toe piece with automatic height adjustment of the sole holder, this toe piece being inexpensive to manufacture and simple to assemble. These embodiments are illustrated with the aid of the attached FIGS. 1 to 13, of which show:

For the time being, reference is made to FIGS. 1 and 2, which schematically represent a front jaw 1 according to the invention, which consists of an upper housing part 2 and a lower housing part 3. A release spring 4 is mounted in the upper housing part 2 between a front and a rear spring support plate 6 or 7, the front spring support plate 6 being supported on the upper housing part via the release system and the rear spring support plate 7 being mechanically connected to the end face of the upper housing part 2 via an adjusting screw 5 is. The upper part of the rear spring support plate is designed as a pointer and indicates to the user, via a window 10 located on the upper side of the upper housing part, the pretensioning of the release spring 4 set using the adjusting screw 5. In the exemplary embodiment shown here, a spring lever 8 and a bearing plate 9 are additionally inserted between the release spring 4 and the rear spring support plate 7, the angular spring lever 8 being supported on the rear spring support plate 7 and acting on the release spring via the bearing plate 9. The effect of this spring jack 8 according to the invention is explained in more detail below. Furthermore, an angle 12 of a tension piece 11 is inserted between the front spring support plate 6 and the end face of the upper housing part 2. At the other end of the elongated tension piece 11, a vertical pin 13 engages, on which the sole holders 14a, 14b of the toe piece are mounted. The sole holders 14a, b are located on the upper part of the housing in such a way that the toe piece can be released from the side, backwards and diagonally. However, the mode of operation of these sole holders is not part of this invention and is therefore not further explained here.

Einzelne Merkmale des Verriegelungsstückes 15 werden im folgenden mit Bezug auf die Figuren 7 bis 10 näher erläutert.FIGS. 3 to 5 show the lower housing part 3 in different views, with the locking piece 15 separately shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 also being shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. In the plan view of the lower housing part 3 shown in FIG. 3, a central recess 16 for the locking piece can be seen. Arranged in the front part of the lower housing part in the region of the housing edge are two flat bearing parts 17a, 17b lying on a transverse axis Q and symmetrical to the longitudinal central axis L, which pass upwards into rounded bearing heads 18a, 18b (see FIG. 4). A hooking element 19 in the form of two projections 20a, 20b is formed on the inside of these bearing parts 17a, b in the lower housing part. Between these projections 20a, b, a plurality of V-shaped latching elements 21 1 , 21 2 , 21 3 , 21 4 are provided on the underside of the lower housing part, which are aligned transversely to the longitudinal central axis. In the longitudinal direction, behind the projections 20a, b, elongated recesses 22a, 22b are additionally formed in the lower housing part 3, which open out in the immediate vicinity of the projections 20a, b into openings 23a, 23b. In the elongated recesses 22a, b, in the use position of the front jaw, two hooks 28a, 28b, which are in contact with the projections 20a, b Housing upper part 2 a. On the lateral edge of the recess 16 for the locking piece 15, guide elements 24a, b are further provided on the lower housing part, on which the locking piece 15 is slidably mounted in the longitudinal direction. 4 and 5, the locking piece 15 according to the invention can already be seen in the installed state. Individual features of the locking piece 15 are explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 7 to 10.

In der Gebrauchsstellung des Vorderbackens 1 wirkt je ein solcher Anschlag 29a, b mit je einer Anschlagfläche 32a1, 32b1, 32a2, 32b2, 32a3, 32b3, 32a4, 32b4 des Verriegelungsstückes 15 zusammen.FIG. 6 shows a bottom view of the upper housing part 2 of a toe piece 1 according to the invention, which is shown here without a release spring 4 and sole holder 14a, b and other parts. In the front part of the upper housing part 2, two conically narrowing bearing points 25a, 25b are arranged in the region of the housing edge on the transverse axis Q and symmetrically to the longitudinal center axis L, which merge upwards into rounded bearing surfaces 26a, 26b. These bearing parts 25a, b are assigned to the bearing parts 17a, b in the use position of the front jaw and together with these form a joint by means of which the upper housing part 2 is pivotably and removably mounted on the lower housing part 3. The axis of rotation of this joint runs along the transverse axis Q and passes through the center points M of the bearing heads 18a, b or the bearing surfaces 26a, b. In the immediate vicinity of the bearing points 25a, b, a hook element 27 in the form of two hooks 28a, 28b is provided on the upper housing part. In the use position of the front jaw, these hooks 28a, b engage in the projections 20a, b of the hooking element 19 and prevent the bearing surfaces 26a, b from lifting off from the bearing heads 18a, b in this use position, as a result of which the joint between the upper and lower housing parts is completely produced is. In the rear part of the upper housing part 2, a central guide plate 30 is formed, along which the bolt 13 provided with the sole holders 14a, b is guided. The guide surface of this guide plate 30 is flared to the rear and thus, in addition to triggering from the side and back, also enables the front jaw to be drawn diagonally, particularly in the case of backward turning falls. Below the guide plate 30, a stop block with two side stops 29a, 29b is provided in the upper housing part 2. In the use position of the front jaw 1, each such stop 29a, b interacts with a stop surface 32a 1 , 32b 1 , 32a 2 , 32b 2 , 32a 3 , 32b 3 , 32a 4 , 32b 4 of the locking piece 15.

Figures 7 and 8 or 9 and 10 show two different embodiments of a locking piece 15 or 115 according to the invention. Both locking pieces are fork-shaped and have two fork arms 31a, 31b. Viewed from above, stop surfaces 32a 1 , 32b 1 , 32a 2 , 32b 2 , 32a 3 , 32b 3 , 32a 4 , 32b 4 are arranged one behind the other on the underside of each fork arm 31a, b. In the use position of the front jaw, such a stop surface 32a 1 , 32b 1 , 32a 2 , 32b 2 , 32a 3 , 32b 3 , 32a 4 , 32b 4 each interacts with a stop 29a, b. Due to the different higher altitude one behind the other lying stop surfaces, the pivotability of the upper housing part 2 with respect to the lower housing part 3 is thus limited to a predetermined dimension. The adjustment is made by horizontally displacing the locking piece 15 or 115. Furthermore, these locking pieces 15, 115 have laterally formed force transmission elements 34a, 34b on each fork arm 31a, b, which cooperate with the guides 24a, b in the use position of the toe piece. In the central part of the locking piece 15, an upwardly projecting locking lug 23 is provided, whereas the locking piece 115 has two locking lugs 133a, 133b symmetrical to the longitudinal central axis. These locking lugs are locked in the use position of the front jaw in one of the V-shaped recesses 21 1 , 21 2 , 21 3 , 21 4 . This prevents inadvertent displacement of the locking piece in the horizontal direction. Furthermore, the locking piece 15 or 115 also has lateral sliding guides 35a, 35b or 135a, 135b and a handle 36 or 136, by means of which the horizontal adjustment of the locking piece can be carried out by a service technician. In an embodiment not shown here, the locking piece 15 or 115 can also have a single horizontal stop surface, it then being possible to dispense with a handle on the locking piece, since only a single horizontal position makes sense and this is already preset when the front jaw is assembled.

Both in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1 and in the front jaw shown in FIG. 11, a spring force acts between the upper housing part 2 and the lower housing part 3, which, in conjunction with the joint and the locking piece, enables the sole holder 14a, b to be continuously adjusted to the height Height of the ski boot sole allows. In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the spring force is provided by the release spring 4, wherein the spring action required for automatic height adjustment of the sole holder is transmitted to the lower housing part 3 via the spring lever 8. The spring lever 8 has two arms and is fork-shaped as seen from above. The first lever arm of the spring lever 8 is a bearing piece 40, with which the spring lever is mounted on the rear spring support plate 7 and acts on the release spring 4 via the bearing disk 9. The second lever arm is formed by two angular arms 41a, 41b, which are formed in one piece with the bearing piece 40. Seen from above, these arms lead laterally past the release spring to the lower housing part 3. In the use position of the front jaw, the arms 41a, b act on the lower housing part 3 or via two projections 42a, 42b formed at their ends and projecting laterally inwards. the locking piece 15, which is slidably mounted in the lower housing part. The mode of operation of this spring lever can easily be seen from FIG. 1. The pivot point of the spring lever 8 lies in the point marked X, which lies in the lower region of the bearing piece 40. Above the adjusting screw 5, in the upper area of the bearing piece 40, this is acted upon by the release spring 4 in the direction of the arrow via the bearing disk 9. As a result, a moment is generated on the second lever arms 41a, b, which generates a force on the projections 42a, 42b of these arms in the direction of the arrow, whereby the upper housing part 2 is loaded in the direction of the lower housing part 3 and the sole holder 14a, b thus in the direction of the arrow be pressed down. From the structural arrangement shown in Fig. 1 it is clear that the height adjustment of the sole holder does not affect the release spring 4 and thus the release behavior of the toe piece or only slightly. Likewise, the setting of the trigger spring and the display of the same remain untouched.

In the embodiment of the front jaw shown in FIG. 11, a leaf spring 43 is provided to generate the spring force, which is supported on a guide 44 of the lower housing part 3 and acts on a further stop 45 of the upper housing part. In this case, the height adjustment of the sole holder acts completely independently of the release spring, which is realized in the form of two springs 104, 204 in this exemplary embodiment.

Finally, the assembly of a toe piece according to the invention shown in FIG. 12 will be explained in more detail here. After the upper housing part 2 has been completely assembled, ie provided with the release spring 4, the sole holders 14a, b, etc., this upper housing part 2, as can be seen in FIG. 12a, is placed on the lower housing part at an angle of approximately 30 °, so that the bearing surfaces 25a, b rest on the bearing heads 18a, b. Then the upper housing part 2 can be pivoted in the direction of the lower housing part, the hooks 28a, b of the hook element 27, as can be seen in FIG. 12b, engage under the projections 20a, b in the hooking element 19 and thus a complete articulated connection between the upper and lower housing elements Manufacture lower part of housing. Finally, the locking piece 15 is inserted from below into the recess 16 of the lower housing part and pushed horizontally backwards until the latch 27 engages in the first 21 1 of the V-shaped recesses 21 1 , 21 2 , 21 3 , 21 4 . In this position, the highest-lying stop surface 26a 1 , b 1 interacts with the stop 29a, b of the upper housing part. As a result, a maximum pivoting angle of the upper housing part and thus a maximum height adjustment of the sole holder is preset when the front jaw is assembled. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 with the spring lever 8, this acts with its lateral projections 42a, 42b on the slide guide 35 of the locking piece 15, whereby the resilient connection between the upper and lower housing parts is produced simultaneously with the installation of this locking piece. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 11 with the leaf spring 43, this spring is also installed simultaneously with the locking piece 115 and is held on the guide 44 of the lower housing part when this locking piece is worn horizontally, so that it acts on the stop 45 of the upper housing part.

In this state, the front jaw of the ski binding is now attached to the ski. This is done by attaching the lower housing part 3, preferably by means of screws, to the ski, as a result of which the upper housing part remains pivotable against spring force in the predetermined area. In an embodiment of the toe piece, not shown here, but preferably used in the rental business, in which the locking piece has a single stop surface, no further adjustment of the toe piece with respect to the sole holder is necessary. In the toe pieces with locking pieces according to FIGS. 7 to 10, the ski boot is inserted into the assembled ski binding, the sole holder or the upper part of the housing moving upwards against spring force in accordance with the height of the shoe sole. When the ski boot is inserted, the locking piece 15, 115 is now displaced horizontally as far back as possible in the direction of the ski boot, so that a suitable stop surface 32a 1 , 32b 1 , 32a 2 , 32b 2 , 32a 3 , 32b 3 , 32a 4 , 32b 4 is located directly above the stop 29. This stop surface is that which is just above the stop 29 in the position of the sole holder predetermined by the ski boot, the position of the locking piece 15, 115 being one in which the latching nose 27, 127 of this locking piece in one of the V-shaped Recesses 21 1 , 21 2 , 21 3 , 21 4 is engaged. As a result, the pivoting range of the upper housing part 2 with respect to the lower housing part 3 is reduced to a dimension that is actually required for the sole of this ski boot. This significantly increases the stability of the ski boot in the toe. The advantage of this additional limitation is also noticeable in the backward release behavior of the ski binding. If the sole holder is loaded upwards in the event of a backward or reverse turn, the upper part of the housing is first pivoted up until the stop 29a, b on the corresponding stop surface 32a 1 , 32b 1 , 32a 2 , 32b 2 , 32a 3 , 32b 3 , 32a 4 , 32b 4 of the locking piece 15, 115 abuts. Then the actual backward release mechanism is started, in which the bearing pin 13 for the sole holders 14a, b is pivoted out of its vertical position, so that its lower end is moved backwards along the guide surface embedded in the guide block 30 and thus via the tension piece 11 the trigger spring 4 acts. For a backward draw, the force acting upwards on the sole holders 14a, b must be large enough to pivot the sole holders so far that the ski boot slides upward out of the toe piece. The conical widening of the guide surface for the bearing pin enables a diagonal release of the front jaw, in which the ski boot is released at an angle upwards, in particular in the event of a backward rotation by pivoting the bearing pin 13 out of its central position.
