A device for locking a sliding body, and particularly a retractable road identification sign (1), in at least two predetermined positions to which it can be returned by a control device including rotational action means which act upon a locking rod (7) which extends parallel to the sliding axis of the sliding body in order to make it rotate about its longitudinal axis (XX') but is unable to move parallel to the latter, characterised in that said locking rod (7) has a plurality of transverse notches (17a, 17b) whose number and mutual spacing along said locking rod (7) are respectively equal to the number and mutual spacing of said predetermined positions and whose roots are convex and connect with the cylindrical lateral surface of said locking rod (7), said notches being angularly shifted with respect to one another about the axis (X-X') of said locking rod (7) when viewed in the longitudinal direction of the latter and being capable of cooperating with a bolt device (10) rigidly joined with said sliding body (1, 2) under the effect of an elastic force, so that the rotational action means (C, 19) can rotate said locking rod (7) about its axis (X-X') in order to successively bring it into predetermined angular positions where, in each of them, one of said transverse notches (17a, 17b), viewed in the longitudinal direction of said locking rod (7), opens towards the exterior in the direction of said bolt device (10).
  2. A locking device according to claim 1, characterised in that each of said transverse notches (17a, 17b) is delimited in the radial direction by a root consisting of a cylindrical surface of revolution whose radius is larger than the radius of the rod (7) and whose axis, which is parallel to the axis (X-X') of said locking rod (7), is located between said axis (X-X') and the lateral surface of said rod (7) or beyond, and, in the axial direction, by two planar shoulders (18a', 18a'', 18b', 18b'') perpendicular to the axis (X-X') of said locking rod (7).
  3. A locking device according to any of claims 1 or 2, characterised in that its said locking rod (7) includes two of said transverse notches (17a, 17b) which are angularly shifted approximately 90° with respect to one another when viewed in the longitudinal direction of said locking rod (7).
  4. A locking device according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that said bolt device (10) comprises a guide roller (12) mounted on said sliding body (1, 2), perpendicularly with respect to the sliding axis of the latter; an actual bolt (13) which is mounted in a sliding fashion within said guide roller (12) and whose free end has dimensions enabling it to penetrate into said transverse notches (17a, 17b); a compression spring (14) seated between the bottom of said guide roller (12) and said bolt (13); and a lug (16) rigidly joined with said bolt (13) and sliding inside an elongated slot (15) which is provided in the side wall of said guide roller (12) and which extends parallel to the axis of the latter.
  5. A locking device according to any of claims 1 to 4, in which said means to rotate said locking rod (7) about its axis (X-X') comprise a prismatic tip (19) which protrudes at one of the ends of this rod (7) and whose edges are parallel to the axis of the latter; and a control key (C) ending with a cavity which reproduces, in recessed form, the cross-sectional shape of said prismatic tip (19), characterised in that said prismatic tip (19) is part of a barrel mounted in an interchangeable manner on one of the ends of said locking rod (7).
  6. A locking device according to claim 5, characterised in that, when said control key (C) covers said prismatic tip (19) of said locking rod (7), its outer contour is only in exact alignment with an opening (27) of an access plate (26) in one given angular position of said locking rod (7).
  7. A locking device according to any of claims 1 to 6, in which said sliding body is a retractable road identification sign (1), characterised in that a self-closing protective trap (30) is disposed above said locking rod (7), substantially at ground level.
  8. A locking device according to any of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that said locking rod (7) comprises one or more locking and return to angular position notch(es) (23) whose root(s) consist(s) of a plurality of flat surfaces (25a, 25b), each of these corresponding to one of said predetermined angular positions and extending through space in a parallel fashion at the cord of the corresponding transverse notch (17a, 17b), into which penetrates an arm (21b) of a lever (21) which is elastically returned towards the root of said locking and return notch (23) and whose other arm (21a) is jointed at its free end to a fixed wall (4a).
