Definitions

  • the invention relates to electronically controlled fuel injection supply devices for an internal combustion engine, comprising electrically controlled injectors.
  • each engine combustion chamber is provided with an injector which opens into the manifold in the vicinity of the corresponding intake valve.
  • the invention relates more particularly to supply devices of the type comprising electrically controlled injectors, an electronic unit controlling the injectors as a function of engine operating parameters, and a throttle body whose throttle is controlled by the driver, each injector comprising a body provided with fixing means in a housing opening into the tubing and a nose pierced with at least one fuel outlet passage, delimiting a mixing chamber connected to a supply of aeration air.
  • EP-A-0 357 4908 injection devices, the injector of which includes a chamber provided with an aeration air inlet. Generally, the air supplied to the injectors is drawn from the air inlet of the supply device. Aeration improves the spraying of the fuel supplied by the injector.
  • a variant is also known (EP-A-0 409 170) where the flow of additional air taken upstream of the throttle valve and delivered to each injector is controlled by a three-way idle solenoid valve also acting as idle speed regulator.
  • document JP-A-57 157 058 describes a supply device according to the preamble of claim 1, comprising an additional air duct branched so as to supply the air necessary for spraying the fuel from each of the injectors, namely the normal running injectors and a cold start injector.
  • the connection to the starter injector is only open when the starter injector is operating.
  • injection fueling devices are known, the butterfly of which makes it possible to close the intake duct almost completely, having an additional air duct whose inlet is located upstream of the butterfly and where the flow rate is adjustable. by a solenoid valve.
  • the air solenoid valve is controlled by the electronic unit according to engine operating parameters, for example the throttle opening and the engine speed for regulating the idle speed, the water temperature and the speed of the engine. engine for cold start.
  • the box thus makes it possible to facilitate the cold starting of the engine, to regulate the idling speed and to facilitate the transitions in deceleration.
  • the present invention aims to provide a fuel supply device for ensuring better spraying when the engine is operating in modes other than full load, and in particular when actuated at very low temperature (running at cold), decelerating at high speed and during reduced loads.
  • the invention proposes to use for this purpose additional air at a regulated flow rate. It therefore proposes a supply device according to the characterizing part of claim 1.
  • the device does not include an additional injector intended to supply fuel during cold departures.
  • the additional solenoid valve will generally also be controlled by the electronic unit, often all or nothing.
  • the additional solenoid valve can in particular be opened during the cold start of the engine at very low temperature, which requires a much greater air flow than that which is capable of providing the ventilation network comprising the distributor, the channels air supply to injectors and mixing chambers.
  • the additional solenoid valve will also be open when the engine is hot, its speed is high and the engine acts as a brake, throttle closed.
  • a high air flow rate often around 60 to 70 kg per hour in the case of a medium-displacement vehicle, is therefore then necessary to avoid damaging the catalyst. This flow rate is much higher than that which can pass through the spray diaphragm generally provided in the injectors.
  • the additional solenoid valve will be dimensioned so that the maximum flow that can pass through it is between 2.5 and 4 times the maximum flow (limited by a sonic neck effect) that can pass through the injectors mixing chamber. .
  • the maximum flow rate of the additional solenoid valve will be approximately three times the maximum flow rate of the four injectors.
  • the serial arrangement of the additional air solenoid valve and the additional solenoid valve on the upstream path downstream of the butterfly valve eliminates the problems that would arise from the installation of two separate circuits, one supplying the injectors and provided with the additional air solenoid valve, the other going directly from upstream to downstream and comprising only the additional valve.
  • the additional solenoid valve should be provided so as to have only minimal leaks in the closed position. so as not to disturb the operation of the engine at idle or at low load.
  • the invention also aims to provide a device limiting the pumping effects and the accumulation of fuel in the injectors mixing chamber, during an operation characterized by a pressure gradient between the intake manifold and the mixing chamber. below the sonic value.
  • the mixing chamber comprises a half-ring supplied in its central part by the air inlet and a diametral passage crossed by the jet or the jets. of fuel.
  • the jets will generally be thin and will have little divergence, at least outside of the air spray regime.
  • the injection is with two jets of divergent axes, placed in the median plane of said diametrical passage. In all cases where the injection is with several jets, these jets are each contained in a plane including the axis of the respective valve.
  • the system whose general constitution is shown in Figure 1 is of the kind described in patent FR 89 04 287 to which reference may be made.
  • This device comprises an air supply circuit on which is interposed a throttle body 8.
  • a throttle valve 10 controlled by the conductor and provided with an opening sensor 12 providing an output signal representative of the opening angle.
  • the butterfly body 8 shown is double and includes two butterflies controlled simultaneously, but this arrangement is not exclusive.
  • the engine air supply circuit comprises, downstream of the body 8, a manifold 14 with several branches each opening upstream of the intake valve 16 of a combustion chamber of the engine.
  • An additional air duct 18 provided with an electrically controlled valve 20 makes it possible, during certain phases of operation, and in particular at start-up, while the butterfly 10 (or each of the butterflies 10) is closed, to bring towards the air motor which bypasses the throttle body 8.
  • the butterfly valve 10 is intended to close the intake duct almost completely when it is in its minimum open position.
  • a fuel supply circuit includes an electric pump 26 which supplies, via a filter 30 and a ramp 32, injectors 34 of which only one is shown. These injectors are arranged immediately upstream of the intake valves 16. The injectors 34 are controlled by an electronic unit 46 supplied by the storage battery 48 as soon as the ignition contact 50 is closed.
  • the air pressure sensors in the manifold and the throttle opening enable the air flow admitted to the engine to be calculated: they can be replaced by a direct air flow measurement element.
  • the electronic unit 46 supplies the injector 34 or each injector with opening pulses synchronized with the control of the corresponding intake valve 16 and the duration of which depends on the operating parameters.
  • each injector 34 has an aeration chamber.
  • the injector 34 comprises a rear body 46 connected to the fuel supply rail 32 and a nose 50.
  • O-rings 52 carried by the noses bear against the wall of the passage formed in the tubing 14 and separate the tubing from the ambient atmosphere.
  • In the nose is provided at least one fuel spouting channel closable by a valve whose movements are controlled by an electromagnetic coil housed in the body and supplied by the housing 46.
  • the nozzle 50 of the injector is also pierced with one or more air / fuel mixture outlet openings coming from a mixing chamber 58 placed downstream of the channel or spouting channels.
  • This chamber is supplied with air through a passage 56 of the tubing, opening between the two O-rings.
  • the chamber consists of an annular channel 60, semi-circular, placed so as to receive the air in the middle and of a diametral channel 62.
  • the passage 56 communicates with the outlet 48 of the solenoid valve 20 via a line 70 and the distributor 68 and a general line 66.
  • the electronic unit 46 can be programmed so as to allow an air flow to remain towards the aeration chambers of the injectors even when the butterfly valve is at full opening, so as to maintain a flow of fresh air which sweeps the nose of injector and cools it.
  • the injector is designed to supply two divergent fuel jets, each passing through a hole 72 in a transverse partition of the diaphragm body, these two jets will generally be formed so as to place themselves in the median plane of the diametral channel 62, which also contains the axis of the injector.
  • valves It is possible to provide one and / or the other of the valves with a progressive effect actuator instead of an all or nothing actuator.
  • actuators can in particular be inductive or of the stepping motor type.
