Description

The present invention relates to armchairs used by the handicapped and disabled and it relates, more particularly, to wheelchairs, whether they are folding or not.

There is no question that wheelchairs have provided mobility for the disabled and disabled. These wheelchairs have, however, several drawbacks due to the fact that the users can only occupy a seated position, moreover, generally maintained for relatively long periods.

First of all, this one sitting position that can be adopted does not allow readjustment to everyday life and does not facilitate social contacts.

Secondly, this single sitting position, maintained for generally long periods, is responsible for a physical deterioration revealing a loss of range of angular mobility of the lower limbs, defective blood circulation, a marked slowing down of the digestive and intestinal functions. , bone fragility, etc.

In an attempt to remedy these drawbacks, various proposals have been made based on a design involving, on the chassis of the armchair, an articulated structure comprising a backrest, a seat and a footrest. As a general rule, such an articulated structure is mounted on the seat by a frontal, horizontal axis, perpendicular to the vertical plane of symmetry of the chassis.

Among the proposals, one of them consists in interposing between the chassis and the structure, an electric motor actuator which can be controlled to cause the raising or lowering of the articulated structure.

Another proposal has been to have, between the structure and the chassis of the chair, on the one hand, at least one elastic compensating member and, on the other hand, at least one operating assembly responsible for assuming a command and control function. control of the relative pivoting of the articulated structure and a geometric locking function of said structure, in the lowered or raised position relative to the chassis.

The technical solution, thus proposed, has advantages of lightness, simplification of construction and assembly, and allows the user to act, without significant physical energy expenditure, on the maneuvering assemblies to command and control the strokes. raising and lowering of the articulated structure on which it rests.

In the design of such a proposal, it was chosen to design the operating assemblies, so as to have in the lowered position and in the raised position two states with certain geometrical locking, thus conferring two extreme stable positions ensuring complete safety for the user to avoid either an untimely rise under the action of the elastic compensator, or an unexpected lowering from the elevation or verticalization position.

It must certainly be considered that such a proposal gives full satisfaction to users by the flexibility of use which it provides them as well as by the freedom of movement which it confers.

Studies into the commissioning, use and functional assessment of such elevating or standing chairs have shown that, in some cases, users would have liked to have had some sort of temporary help to lighten or reduce the physical action they must carry on the maneuvering sets. This is the case, when the user is subject to temporary natural fatigue or consecutive to an intervention or has seen, since the start of using such a chair, his physical forces decrease slightly without weight loss, to the point that the adjustment of the elastic compensator or its replacement becomes ineffective.

The problem then arose of being able to have partial and temporary motorized assistance, adaptable to a manual lift or stand-up chair of the above type, without transforming such a chair into complete assistance equipment, such as those of the type of the first proposal mentioned above.

One might think that such a need can be satisfied by providing a motorized installation acting directly on the control assemblies. lateral. The experiments which have been made in this direction show, however, that such a way of acting is practically impossible and leads to ruptures, either of the lateral assemblies directly, or of their articulation organs because of the high forces which must be applied to combat the multiplier effect which is attached by construction to the side assemblies.

One might also think that it suffices to act in association with the elastic compensator on the articulated structure and more particularly, on the seat, for example, by means of an articulated link controlled by an appropriate drive member. In reality, such a proposal is also not realistic because it does not take into account the need to neutralize the high and low locking positions, before initiating any pivoting command of the articulated structure in elevation movement or in lowering motion.

An additional difficulty to be solved is the desire to maintain the verticalizing chair's characteristic of manual control and to provide possible means of motorized assistance which are adaptable, removably, quickly and practically, without their installation disturbing the usual operating characteristics, as well as those of rolling stability, at a fixed position in the lowered or raised position.

The object of the invention is to respond to the demand thus perceived, by proposing technical means which make it possible to overcome the above problems by offering a practical solution, relatively inexpensive, easy to adapt and to dismantle to make a lift chair or stander possibly equipped with or without a motorized assistance device.

Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are side elevations illustrating three characteristic operating positions of the object of the invention.

Fig. 7 is a partial elevation showing, on a larger scale, an alternative embodiment of one of the constituent elements of the object of the invention.

7. Fig. 8 is a side view, partially broken away, taken along line VIII - VIII of FIG. 7 .

Figs. 9 to 11 are three transverse schematic views illustrating another characteristic of the subject of the invention.

Figs. 1 to 3 show diagrammatically, a wheelchair 1 comprising a chassis 2 constituted by anterior 3 and posterior uprights 4 joined together by beams 5a and 5b , for example, and by crosspieces such as 6 . The chassis 2 is usually provided with carrier and driving wheels 10 and steerable wheels 11 .

The frame 2 can correspond, indifferently, to a rigid or possibly folding design and in such a case, the crosspieces 6 are designed from articulated elements which can be locked in the deployed position, in a known manner, which are not part of the subject of the invention.

The chassis 2 is equipped with a lifting device produced in the form of an articulated structure, generally designated by the reference 12 . The articulated structure 12 comprises a seat 13 which is, for example, constituted by two upper side members 14 articulated by two front axes 15 on extensions of the front uprights 3 . The seat 13 is also composed of two secondary side members 16 which are mounted by articulation points 17 on the upper side members 5b and set back from the front uprights 3 .

The rear ends of the side members 14 and 16 are linked by articulation points 18 and 19 to a frame or the like 20 constituting a backrest element. The upper side members 14 are provided, beyond the pivot points 15 , with extensions 21 on which is hinged a footrest 22 constituted by legs 23 connected to the front uprights 3 by spacing bars 24 which are each articulated by a point 25 on the jamb, and by a point 26 on the anterior upright 3 .

The articulated structure 12 is linked to the chassis 5 by at least one elastic member 27 interposed between the seat 13 and the chassis 5 . The elastic member 27 is preferably arranged between the upper longitudinal members 14 of the seat 13 and the lower longitudinal members 5a of the chassis 2 . The elastic member 27 is designed to assume a weight compensation and energy absorption function, as well as a restitution function, and can be formed by a compensating spring or preferably by a gas type jack.

2.The articulated structure 12 is, moreover, linked to the chassis 5 by two lateral maneuvering assemblies 30 intended to assume a function of command and manual control of the relative pivoting of the structure 12 relative to the chassis and a function of stop and locking in a position of maximum lowering as illustrated in fig. 1 and in a position of maximum elevation as shown in FIG. 2 .

To this end, each maneuvering assembly 30 comprises a lever 31 mounted articulated by a point 32 on the seat element 13 and, more particularly, the lower beam 16 near the point of articulation 19 . The lever 31 forms a first branch or a flywheel 33 constituting a manual control member and a second branch 34 which is linked by a hinge pin 35 to a connecting rod 36 mounted by a hinge pin 37 on the rear part of the spar upper 5b of chassis 2 .

Il en résulte un verrouillage géométrique s'opposant à tout pivotement intempestif du levier 31 dans le sens de la flèche f₁.The relative lengths between the branch 34 and the link 36 as well as the positions of the articulation points 32 and 37 are chosen so that, in the lowered state according to FIG. 1 , the articulation point 32 is arranged below the fictitious line passing through the articulation points 35 and 37 . This results in a geometric locking opposing any untimely pivoting of the lever 31 in the direction of the arrow f₁ .

The characteristics given above are also provided so that in the elevation state, as illustrated in FIG. 2 , the articulation point 35 is placed below the fictitious line passing through the articulation points 32 and 37 . he also results in this state, a geometric locking opposing the untimely movement of the lever 31 in the direction of the arrow f₂ .

The stand-up chair described above can therefore occupy a lowering position, as illustrated in FIG. 1 , providing a stable sitting position. In this state, the compensating member or members 27 are compressed.

When the subject wishes to be transferred from the sitting position to a verticalization position, he acts on the levers 31 and, more particularly, the branches 33 in the direction of the arrow f₁ , so as to cause the displacement of the articulation points 32 above the links 36 , to break the geometrical locking and thus release the movement of the articulated structure 12 . The levers 31 can then, with the help of the elastic compensating member or members 27 , give the user control of the elevation of the structure 12 until reaching the stable state according to FIG. 2 in which the footrest 22 is supported on the ground S , while the axis 35 has passed above the fictitious line joining the points of articulation 32 and 37 .

In this state, a geometrical lock is established, conferring safety stability in the elevated position.

The object of the invention is to propose a device which takes account of the above structural and functional characteristics, and which makes it possible to adapt, when necessary, a motorized assistance device temporarily responsible for taking over control of the subject not momentarily having the physical capacity to act on the maneuvering assemblies 30 .

Figs. 1 and 3 show that the motorized assistance device, adaptable to a lift chair of the above type, comprises a rigid cradle 40 , for example, produced in the form of a frame which can be adapted by fixing members 41 on the chassis 2 and more particularly the side members 5a . According to an advantageous arrangement of the invention, the cradle 40 is designed to be adapted to the rear part of the chassis 2 and under the axis of rotation or axle x - x ' , corresponding to the rear wheels 10 , so as to contribute to a lowering of the center of gravity to give, in all positions of the chair, appreciable and remarkable safety stability. Preferably, the cradle 40 is designed to be adapted on rear extensions 42 of the side members 5a and to be, for example, immobilized in translation by the members 41 which can be associated with any removable fixing means by tightening button or the like.

Figs. 1 and 3 show that it may be advantageous to produce the members 41 in the form of legs or of bent hands, capable of enclosing the lower beams 5a in particular on either side of the rear uprights 4 .

In all cases, the cradle 40 is designed to be removably adapted to allow rapid assembly and disassembly.

The cradle 40 carries a motorization group 43 advantageously comprising a reversible electric motor and a rechargeable accumulator battery. Such a power unit 43 must be considered to be commercial.

The power unit 43 is provided with a remote control unit 44 , for example, by means of a cord 45 . The housing 44 is placed at the disposal of the user by being, for example, removably adapted to one of the elements of the articulated structure 12 and, for example, an armrest.

The power unit 43 , mounted on the cradle 40 by a hinge 43a , comprises a movable control member 46 which is, for example, analogous to the rod of a jack, oriented to attack a transmission 47 which is preferably designed to introduce a transformation of the alternating rectilinear displacement of the rod 46 . The transmission 47 comprises, for example, a crank 48 carried by a shaft 49 mounted capable of rotating in bearings carried by the cradle 40 .

The transmission 47 is designed to control, simultaneously and in synchronism, two lateral articulated systems 50 each composed of two sets of levers 51 and 52 . The first set of levers 51 comprises an angled lever 53 mounted by a point of articulation 54 to rotate on the cradle 40 . The axis of rotation 54 can be merged with the shaft 49 and in such a case, the crank 48 can be likened to one of the branches of each of the bent levers 53 . It should be considered that a different arrangement could also occur, consisting, for example, in connecting the rod 46 of the power unit 43 with the shaft 49 which would provide a physical connection between the corresponding branches of the two lateral levers 53 .

In all possible construction cases, the angled levers 51 comprise angularly fixed branches, so that the second branch, designated by the reference 55 , is linked by a point of articulation 56 to a connecting rod 57 itself linked to the second set of lever 52 .

Fig. 2 shows more precisely that the second set 52 comprises an angled lever 58 which is mounted by a hinge point 59 on the side member 16 . The lever 58 is articulated by its small branch to the rod 57 by a joint 60 and by its large branch to a rod 61 by means of a joint 62 . The link 61 is linked by an articulation 63 to the manual control member 30 , so that the articulation 63 is located between the pivot point 32 and the end of the branch 33 .

Le dispositif d'assistance motorisée en liaison avec un fauteuil du type décrit ci-dessus, fonctionne de la façon suivante, à partir de la position correspondante à un état stable d'abaissement de la structure articulée 12.The motorized assistance device in connection with a chair of the type described above operates as follows, from the position corresponding to a stable state of lowering of the articulated structure 12 .

When the user wishes to switch to the verticalization position, he presses on the appropriate control member of the housing 44 to supply power to the motorization group 43 in the direction for which the rod 46 performs its extension stroke. The lever or levers 53 of the first games 51 then pivot in the direction of the arrow f₃ and push the rods 57 which rotate the levers 58 of the games 52 in the direction of the arrow f₄ . Due to the geometrical locking established, the action of the rods 57 does not have an immediate impact on the pivoting of the articulated structure 12 on the articulation points 15 and only rotates the bent levers 58 which, by their large branch , act in traction on the rods 61 . The control members 30 are required to pivot in the direction of the arrow f₁ , so that the articulation points 35 are lowered and cause the connecting rods 36 to pass into the position illustrated in FIG. 4 , in which the pivot points 32 are placed relatively above these rods, thereby releasing the geometric lock previously established. In this position, the pushing action of the rods 57 , while producing the pivoting of the levers 58 , ensures the elevation of the seat 13 in the direction of the arrow f₅ in association with the restitution of work stored by the or the elastic bodies 27 . The articulated structure 12 is thus gradually brought into an intermediate elevation position as illustrated in FIG. 5.

6, l'action de la tige 46 se heurte à une impossibilité de développement supplémentaire de la structure articulée 12 amenée à prendre appui sur le sol S par le repose-pieds 22.At the end of the elevation illustrated in FIG. 6, the action of the rod 46 comes up against an impossibility of further development of the articulated structure 12 brought to bear on the ground S by the footrest 22 .

In this state, the links 57 act only to rotate the bent levers 58 of the two sets 52 , so as to force the rotation of the levers 31 in the direction of the arrow f₆ (fig. 6) to pass the axis of articulation 35 beyond the fictitious line passing through the pivot points 32 and 37 , as illustrated in FIG 2 . In this position, the geometric locking intervened to stabilize the articulated structure 12 in a safe verticalization state for the subject.

When it is appropriate to control the lowering stroke of the articulated structure 12 , the subject acts on the housing 44 to control the reverse supply of the power unit 43 in order to urge the rod 46 in the retraction stroke.

Un tel déplacement de la tige 46 produit, tout d'abord, le déverrouillage de la position verticalisation par déplacement de l'articulation 35 en deçà de la ligne fictive joignant les points de pivotement 32 et 37.Such displacement of the rod 46 produces, first of all, the unlocking of the verticalization position by displacement of the articulation 35 below the fictitious line joining the pivot points 32 and 37 .

4 puis finalement l'état stable verrouillé en position abaissée telle qu'illustrée par la fig 1.From this state illustrated in FIG. 6 , the drive of the operating assemblies 30 is then carried out concomitantly with the lowering of the seat by pivoting on the front axes 15 , bringing the articulated structure 12 back to the intermediate position, according to FIG. 5 , to reach, then, according to an operating principle opposite to what is described above, the lowering state according to FIG. 4 then finally the stable state locked in the lowered position as illustrated in FIG . 1 .

In the foregoing, it is indicated that the device according to the invention is intended to provide, when necessary, motorized assistance to a stand-up or manual lift chair. There is therefore particularly provided according to the invention a removable, rapid, simple and effective adaptation of the device on the chassis 2 . To this end, the articulated systems 50 are preferably made in such a way that it is possible to easily break the connection between the two sets 51 and 52 .

Figs. 7 and 8 show such an exemplary embodiment, consisting in providing on the small branch of each bent lever 58 a pin 70 for engaging the corresponding end of the rod 57 . The immobilization of the connecting rod 57 on the pin is, for example, ensured by a tab 71 movably mounted on an axis 72 of the lever 58 and comprising at its opposite end a notch 73 intended to overlap the pin 70 after installation of the connecting rod 57 .

In this way, after free rotation controlled in the direction of the arrow f₇ of the tab 71 , it becomes possible, by bending in the direction of the arrow f₈ , to release the connecting rod 57 while allowing the two games to remain on the articulated structure 52 of the systems 50 . The entire device can then be removed from the chassis 2 by dismantling the cradle 40 taking with it the power unit 43 , the transmission 47 , the one or two set (s) of levers 51 and the connecting rods 57 .

Figs. 9 to 11 show a possibility of rapid adaptation of the cradle 40 on the chassis 2 , more particularly, when the latter is formed in a folding form such as is frequently the case with regard to wheelchairs. In such a case, the longitudinal members 5a , secured by the uprights 3 and 4 , are also joined by one or more sets of scissors 80 associated with one or more coupling rod 81 . The positioning of the cradle 40 takes place, then, when the chassis 2 is in a partially folded position, as illustrated in FIG. 9 , so that the transverse spacing between the side members 5a is less than the fixed spacing between the members 41 which may advantageously be constituted, as said above, by legs or bent hands. In this way, it is possible to easily arrange the cradle 40 in the plane of the side members 5a , to ensure its lateral engagement on one of the latter and to control by manual action, in particular on the coupling bars 81 , a transverse opening of the chassis leading to the simultaneous engagement of the two longitudinal members 5a in the members 41 .

The invention is not limited to the examples described and shown since various modifications can be made thereto without departing from its scope.
