Description

The present invention relates to a material for printing and a printing installation using this material. The field of the invention also covers the field of so-called metallized printing and in the present description is meant by "metallized printing" the reproduction on a given support of signs, characters, drawings or other symbols having the appearance, consistency, feel and / or color of a metal, especially metallic coating. This is particularly the case for gilding applied in letterpress or any other material used to coat any signs, designs or symbols. This gives a particular aspect to these characters, signs, drawings or symbols and the operation which presided over this effect is called "metallization" in the case of a metallic coating. To take as an example that of gilding we will recall the well known process of hot gilding on different supports on which it can be applied (paper, bindings, plastics, wood, etc ...) and which is the following: A letterpress is taken to a certain temperature; pressure is exerted using a machine; a gilding film is presented between this plate and the material to be printed and the gilded film is deposited and fixed under 1 • combined action of temperature and pressure. Of course, the typographic plate is generally a plate in zinc, brass, magnesium, steel or silicone comprising an engraving whose protruding relief represents the characters, signs, drawings or symbols to be printed and this plate is part of a set comprising a system heating (inside or outside) carried by a device or even a machine provided with means for exerting the desired pressure. We know different processes, devices or different machines depending on whether it is printing on paper, binding or plastic, continuous printing on cylinders or plates, etc ... Thus, for example, the document JP-A-62132677 (RICOH KK) describes a material for printing used in the field of hot foil stamping, this material serving as a temporary support for a film of gold metal intended to be transferred. . The material consists of a support coated with a layer of a low-adhesion material, then with the metallized film and a layer of hot-melt adhesive.
Document FR-A-2 135 471 (LA CELLOPHANE) describes materials which further comprise a layer of protective varnish between the non-stick material and the metallized film. This document also describes a material comprising, between the support and the metallized film, a layer of a material which is both non-stick and protective.
Document US-A-4877681 (K. HANADA et Al) describes printing materials which comprise, in addition to a support and a hot-melt inking layer, an intermediate layer suitable for breaking under the effect of heat.
The transfer technique using these materials consists in placing the material, the face carrying the heat-sealable adhesive facing the sheet to be printed, and in applying hot, possibly under pressure to the other face of the material, a matrix bearing a pattern.
By proceeding according to the prior techniques, it is in any case important to monitor the correct position of the printing assembly and in particular of the plate or plates and of the material to be printed. It may also be necessary to compensate for any lack of parallelism.
Another example of metallization is that in which the metal to be applied is in powder form. It is, among other things, that of tanning: an adhesive solution is applied using an offset machine to the place where one wishes to deposit the "bronze". The support having thus received its adhesive passes through a machine which projects the powdered metal, which of course is fixed at the places coated with adhesive. A such a method has the inherent drawbacks such as the release of bronze dust, irregular distribution of the layer of the powdery product, etc., unless specially designed control devices are available.
To overcome these drawbacks, the present invention provides a material characterized by the fact that it consists of a complex comprising a support of the sheet, tape or tablecloth type, a layer of non-stick substance, a thin film of coating which can be removed by means of an adhesive.
According to a possible advantageous embodiment, said material consists of a support of plastic material of the polyester type coated with a layer of a non-stick substance of the paraffin type and on which the thin layer of coating, in particular metallic, has been deposited. as gold, silver, aluminum, etc ... film called "metallizing film". Such a film can be colored with an appropriate varnish applied during manufacture. Such a material can be used for printing according to a process which consists in causing the adhesive to be carried by the surfaces, signs, characters and other symbols which it is desired to coat and to apply to the surfaces thus rendered adhesive the material in question, so that its face formed by the coating is in contact with the adhesive.
Pressure is then applied and possibly heat to improve the separation of this coating from its support.
Advantageously, the above method is implemented in an installation characterized in that it is of the offset type comprising at least one station for supplying products to be printed, optionally an ink station, at least one size station, a station designed to deposit and apply the coating from the material according to the invention, and finally a so-called recipe or storage station.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a schematic view of an installation implementing the method of the invention and Figure 2 is a schematic sectional view of a material according to the invention suitable for a impression.
Referring to these figures, the material according to the invention illustrated in FIG. 2, consists of a support 1 of the sheet, strip, tablecloth or similar type made of a suitable material, preferably plastic material of the polyester type, coated with a layer 2 of a paraffin-type non-stick substance, to which is applied, an optional layer 3 of a transparent varnish or not, colored or not, followed by a film 4 of the desired coating, in particular a metallizing film, such as gold, silver, aluminum or other metal or alloy foil or powder.
Such a material is particularly suitable for metallized printing. Indeed, it suffices, by applying pressure and possibly by bringing in the heat, to apply the material which has just been described, on a surface previously coated with an adhesive at the desired locations so that the corresponding portion of the film covering is fixed in these places to the exclusion of all others; the thinness of this film is moreover such that the latter is easily cut along the contour of the surface coated with adhesive without the need for any special tool for this purpose, the adhesive in addition, having in itself a sufficiently powerful bonding action to allow this "self-cutting" without slipping of the coating film during its application on the support to be printed.
De façon avantageuse, ces opérations peuvent être réalisées dans une installation du type offset illustrée schématiquement à la figure 1.Advantageously, these operations can be carried out in an installation of the offset type illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 1.
Quant à la feuille 7 comportant les dorures voulues, elle est reçue au poste de stockage 11.Referring to this figure, we will take as an example the case of gilding, that is to say the case where the coating film 4 is a gold leaf. The product to be printed and metallized is for example a series of sheets of paper. These sheets 7 are stored at station 6 which will also be the supply station of the installation by any means known per se (not shown). Each sheet flows in the direction of the arrows F. It first enters at least one inking station 8 of an offset machine provided with its well-known systems of wetting and inking 8a-8b and offset printing 8ç_ -8d-8th. Once this operation has been completed, the sheet is admitted into at least one so-called "sizing station" 9 also operating according to the offset principle with its also well-known systems of wetting-sizing 9a-9b applicators at the desired locations 9a-9d-9e. The sheet 7 thus treated is then admitted into the gilding station 10 comprising its feed roller 10a, in gilding material of the type illustrated in FIG. 2 in the form of a continuous sheet. This guided sheet 10b is presented above the sheet 7 to be pressed there by the combined action of two pressure cylinders lOç-lOd. As explained above, the corresponding portion of the metallizing film (used here for gilding) will only be fixed on the glued areas. The rest of the metallizing material is rewound in 10th. As for the sheet 7 comprising the desired gilding, it is received at the storage station 11.
It is obvious that the cylinders 10c and / or 10d can be heated if necessary to facilitate application, their realization for this purpose being well known to those skilled in the art.
Of course, any suitable adhesive can be used according to the invention allowing the above operations to take place. According to a possible embodiment, a two-component type system, namely a resin and a crosslinking agent, is used to act as an adhesive, the "setting" of such an adhesive being effected by a reaction. chemical when these two components are brought into contact. The printing material, as described above, is covered during its manufacture with an additional layer of 1 • one of the two components of the system above.
The second component of the adhesive is printed at the desired locations on the sheet in the "glue" station of the offset machine. In the station where the printing material is applied to the sheet, the chemical reaction takes place in the areas where the two components are in contact, causing total adhesion of the film. This reaction can be carried out, under pressure, both cold and hot. The film is thus advantageously transferred only to the contact zones of the two components.
Such two-component systems are well known. Examples include those based on urethane polyols and polyepoxides.
According to one embodiment, the two-component system will be chosen from systems comprising a liquid polyepoxide resin and a hardener or accelerator also liquid. The application of these two components may be done by any appropriate means of impregnation or coating of the support, with or without the use, if necessary, of diluents acting on the viscosity of the component to be applied. Among the preferably liquid accelerators or hardeners, tertiary amines, polyamines or acid anhydrides will be mentioned. These hardeners or accelerators react relatively quickly and depending on the category to which they belong, the expected chemical reaction can be carried out at temperatures between 5 β C and 80 β C. The polyepoxide resin which will advantageously be used is that resulting from the polyaddition reaction bisphenol A with epichlorohydrin and sodium hydroxide. Among the liquid amines, mention will be made, for example, of amines of the poly (ethyleneamines), poly (propylenea ines), aminoethylpiperaznes, isophoronediamine type. Examples of acid anhydrides include methylnadic anhydride and tetrapropenylsuccinic anhydride.
With the material according to the invention and its application, it appears that no wedging of the parts present (sheet to be metallized and applicators) is necessary as is the case when applying the printing and metallization processes currently known.
It goes without saying that the present invention has only been described for explanatory purposes and is in no way limitative and that any useful modification may be made to it in terms of equivalences, without going beyond its ambit.
