Description

6.6. The invention relates to a method and an installation for the production of thread-stitched books.

In a machine arrangement for thread-stitching book blocks according to CH-A-503 595, the blocks made from printed sheets by a collating machine or device are transferred to a coplanar conveyor belt at the stack delivery. Along the conveyor belt, feeders of an assigned thread-stitching machine are arranged, which the operating personnel load with the blocks arriving on the conveyor belt. In an older method according to CH - A - 503 595, the blocks are placed on pallets at the end of the collating machine and the latter are placed on a stand until the blocks are further processed in thread sewing machines. The filled pallets are transported from the stand to the feeders of the thread sewing machines and the blocks are placed in the feeders by hand.

Newer systems have a mechanical loading of the thread sewing machine directly from the collator.

Manual loading requires a lot of personnel, be it by loading the feeders of the thread sewing machine or machines and / or by temporarily storing the printed sheets brought together in blocks. The latter circumstance arises from the performance relationship between the collating device and the thread sewing machine, the former being able to assemble a multiple of blocks, while the thread sewing machine is capable of producing a book block at the same time. The reason for the considerably longer manufacturing time for the thread sewing machine lies in the sewing of each individual sheet of a block or, with each work cycle of the gathering device, a block is created on the delivery, for the processing of which the performance of a thread sewing machine is not sufficient in the same time.
On the other hand, it would be uneconomical to increase the performance capacity for thread sewing with several thread sewing machines and extensive conveyor systems due to a larger order.

With the direct connection of the collating device and the thread sewing machine or machines, an economical production can only be achieved if the production series are small, so that the blocks do not have to be stored temporarily. For the rest, reference is made to the relevant literature on thread sewing.
The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a method and a system with which the shortcomings listed above can be remedied in a simple manner under economically favorable conditions.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features listed in the characterizing part of patent claim 1 or 6. As a result, several devices serving to hold blocks can optionally be loaded one after the other, and then, if necessary, placed in intermediate storage or on one or more thread-stitching machines.
The blocks can be placed at intervals or without spacing, or staggered in a scale formation in the layers of the winding, the latter, for example, also in the case of large-format, thinner blocks.

The couplable device can advantageously be loaded with blocks with at least one batch intended for a thread sewing machine, as a result of which a flexible processing flow can arise.

The mobile, drivable wrap for receiving the blocks of collated, folded printed sheets can be used expediently - as is known per se in the case of loose printed products resulting in scale formation - and thus allows the blocks to be stored efficiently in the layers produced by wound strips.

In order to avoid displacements between the printed sheets and / or the flexing effect with subsequent undesired folds, the blocks are expediently arranged with the backs of the printed sheets leading into the winding.

To carry out the method according to the invention, one from a collating device with several placement stations for differently printed sheets and at least one is suitable A downstream thread sewing machine, which is characterized in that a mobile winding of a storage device, which is connected to the work cycle in a drive-wise manner, is arranged at the delivery end of the collating device.
This will make it possible to maintain an optimal work process at the gathering facility and also to be able to maintain a buffer store for flexible processing on the thread sewing machines used. In addition, a motor-driven winding, which offers a large absorption capacity in a relatively small space, has proven to be transport-friendly.

The storage device is preferably arranged between the collating device and the thread sewing machine, so that no long or time-consuming transport routes are created and the required space can be optimally used.

For the purpose of transporting the holding devices between the collating device and the thread sewing machine, self-propelled chassis such as forklift trucks or the like. Controlled by rail or crane systems can be used according to the same operating mode.

Advantageously, the storage device or the associated receiving devices are / are controllably connected to the collating device and / or the thread sewing machine or can be adapted to the production output of the latter and can be used without operating personnel. It will therefore be possible to automatically control and regulate the production of the book blocks from the collating machine to the thread sewing machine.

Ultimately, the holding devices can be used for intermediate storage of the finished book blocks until further processing.

The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment shown in the single figure.

The single figure illustrates a system 1 for the production of thread-stitched books, in which the folded printed sheets stacked in feed stations 2 are collated into blocks 5 on a conveyor path 3 of a collating device 4. Via a delivery 6 at the end of the collating device 4, the printed sheets brought together to form blocks 5 are fed to a receiving device 7. This is designed as a winding station. The delivery 6 extending to the winding station consists, for example, of a belt conveyor to which, viewed in the direction of conveyance, at least one winding belt attached to a winding mandrel connects. The winding mandrel, not shown, is rotatably supported about its axis. The winding tape is attached at one end to the winding mandrel and at the other end to a rotatable winding roller (not shown). The winding tape is guided over deflection rollers and driven by a motor connected to the winding mandrel. The speed of the winding tape is controlled according to the speed of the blocks 5 supplied. The winding mandrel of the generated winding 8 is mounted in a winding frame 9, which is designed to be movable in a manner not shown or can be grasped by a crane, whereby the use of a hoist also transports the winding 8 alone into a winding frame 9 which is offset near a thread sewing machine 10 could.

In the drawing, a filled reel 8 is decoupled from the collating device 4 before being transported to the adjacent storage device 11, in which a plurality of reels 8 on the reel stands 9 rest next to one another or wait until they are moved to the thread sewing machines 10. The arrangement of the windings 8 shown could be produced by guide rails on the ground, by a crane or the lift truck 12 shown. The depicted position of the bearing device 11 within the system 1 is also an arbitrary one, which must be adapted to the prevailing conditions.
Of course, a different arrangement than the obvious one could be chosen between the collating device, the storage device and the thread sewing machine or machines, in particular in such a way that a favorable material flow arises. The arrangement of the thread sewing machines shown is also arbitrary and could be changed.
The thread sewing machines 10 are loaded in batches by means of the receiving devices 7, and in the case of a roll 8 one or more batches of different types could be located thereon.
In the storage device 11, empty winding frames 9 are also illustrated, from each of which a winding 8 has been removed or is still being fed.

At the end of production behind the thread sewing machines 10 there are again winding frames 9 with winding mandrels for receiving book blocks, these winding parts being interchangeable with those of the storage device 11.
