Definitions
- the invention relates to a plate made of acrylic glass, which is suitable as a noise protection element and is secured against the formation and falling of loose fragments by reinforcement strands embedded approximately in the center parallel to the surface.
- Such plates are known from German utility model 9010087, which contain embedded monofilament plastic threads, preferably made of polyamide, as reinforcing strands. If the panel breaks due to the impact of a vehicle, the plastic threads are stretched and consequently do not tear or only tear to a small extent and hold the resulting fragments together.
- a disadvantage of the known plates is the uncertainty of how long the embedded plastic threads will maintain the required tensile strength.
- polyamides and similar plastics suitable for the production of high-strength threads are damaged by the action of UV radiation and other weather influences. If they are largely protected against the weather by embedding them in acrylic glass there is still a risk regarding the durability of the tear strength. The size of this risk plays an important role in the security guarantee. A sufficiently reliable assessment is only possible after practical testing over many years or decades.
- the invention has for its object to provide a suitable as a noise protection plate made of acrylic glass, in which the security against the formation and falling of loose fragments is guaranteed over long periods.
- the invention is based on the known plate made of acrylic glass, suitable as a noise protection element, with reinforcing strands embedded approximately in the center parallel to the surface. According to the invention, it contains, as embedded reinforcement strands, spirals made of steel wire, the diameter of the spirals being smaller than the thickness of the plate, the axes of the spirals being arranged parallel to the surface, and the interior spaces of the spirals being at least partially hollow or filled with a deformable medium are.
- Figure 1 shows a plate according to the invention in plan view. The section enclosed in the broken circle is shown enlarged in FIG. 1 a.
- Figure 2 shows a section of the cross section through the plate on the scale of Figure 1 a.
- the resulting break lines can run over the track of one or more spirals.
- the tensile force acting on a break line is first transferred to the wire turns of the spirals that cross the break line.
- the tensile force can now act on the spiral windings located on both sides of the fracture surface, so that these are pulled out of their track in the plastic plate with stretching and constriction.
- it is important that the cavity within the spiral is not, or at least not, filled with the plastic over its entire cross section.
- a length of the spiral corresponding to the strength and duration of the tensile force is pulled out of its track within the plastic plate and stretched.
- the impact energy that has caused the plate to break is used up until the breaking process comes to a standstill.
- the resulting fragments of the plastic plate are connected to one another by stretched spiral sections.
- the interior of the spiral is not or at least not filled with the plastic over its entire cross section. Because through this space the spiral windings caught by the tensile force move towards the fracture surface.
- the spiral interiors are preferably hollow or filled with air. However, they can also be filled with another medium that is sufficiently deformable to allow the spiral turns to move to the fracture surfaces during the breaking process. This applies to gaseous and low-viscosity media, such as oils, without further ado. As the viscosity of the medium increases, the movement of the spiral windings becomes more difficult, which can be advantageous to a certain extent because it is used for energy consumption.
- the pulling out of the spiral turns on the fracture surfaces is further inhibited the thinner the cavity or the space in the spiral filled with a deformable medium.
- This space is generally formed in that - as described in detail below - the spirals filled with a strand of the medium to be introduced or with a displacer are already used to produce the plates.
- the displacer e.g. a stiff metal wire can be pulled out after the plate has been made, leaving a cavity. If desired, it can be filled with the desired medium.
- the cross section of the cavity can be influenced by the thickness of the displacer introduced. It preferably fills the interior of the spiral to at least 50% of its cross-sectional area.
- the steel wire wound into a spiral can be completely enclosed by the plastic of the plate and separated from the cavity or the filling medium by a thin plastic layer. During the breaking process, this layer breaks due to the constriction and stretching of the spiral. This, in turn, is an energy-consuming process, which is advantageous as long as the stretching of the spiral is not hindered too much.
- the nature of the deformable medium and its cross-section are coordinated so that the Pulling out and stretching the spirals so much kinetic energy is consumed that sufficient tensile forces practically no longer occur to break the steel wire.
- This coordination is expediently carried out by breaking tests under standardized impact conditions. It can be predicted with a high degree of certainty that the properties of the acrylic glass and the embedded spirals made of steel wire remain unchanged for decades, so that the security against the formation and falling of fragments is also guaranteed for a correspondingly long time.
- the plates according to the invention can be produced by the so-called chamber casting process.
- the liquid polymerizable monomer mixture is filled into a flat chamber formed from two parallel glass plates and a sealing cord that runs around the edge between them. After closing the filling opening, the filled chamber is exposed to the polymerization conditions until the monomer mixture has hardened to acrylic glass.
- the spirals with the displacers inserted into the interior are used to prepare the flat chamber. So that they do not sag during the polymerization, it is advisable to use a sufficiently rigid rod, e.g. made of metal, which essentially fills the interior.
- a tensioned drawstring can perform the same function.
- Suitable spirals in the edge area fix the spirals drawn on rods or drawstrings in the flat chamber so that their arrangement is not changed during filling and further handling.
- the implementation of the polymerization corresponds to the known production of cast acrylic glass.
- the sealing cords can be removed so that the volume shrinkage associated with the polymerization can take place unhindered.
- the Rods are pulled out of the spirals on the end faces of the flat chamber or the resulting plate.
- the remaining cavity can then optionally be filled or closed with a liquid medium.
- the acrylic glass plates usually have a thickness D of 10 to 30 mm.
- the spirals are thinner and preferably do not make up more than 1/3 of the plate thickness.
- the spirals preferably have a diameter d of 2 to 8 mm.
- the steel wire from which they are formed can e.g. have a thickness S of 0.1 to 0.5 mm.
- the steepness of the spiral spiral affects its elasticity. As a rule, the length of a turn is not greater than the spiral diameter. Spirals with mutually touching turns are preferred.
- Each plate preferably contains a plurality of spirals running parallel to one another at uniform lateral distances of 20 to 100 mm.
- the spirals can be colored for reasons of wanted recognition, bird protection or a decorative design; For example, varnishes that are sufficiently resistant to the liquid monomers, metal stains or tarnishing colors that can be achieved by oxidative surface treatments are suitable for coloring.
- Lengths of 2 to 3 m and widths of 2 to 4 m are appropriate for the use of the new panels in noise barriers along streets or railroad tracks. Panels of this size must not form loose fragments under standardized fracture conditions.
- DIN 52290 a plate lying freely on both sides is broken by the fall of a 4.1 kg steel ball from a height of 9 m, in another test by the fall of a 300 kg steel ball from a height of 1 m. With suitable dimensioning and density of the spirals in relation to the plate size and thickness, the formation of larger loose fragments is prevented.

Abstract
