Wegen der punktuellen Zu- und Abluftöffnungen der Profilkasten kommt es allerdings bei geschlossenem Vorsatzfenster nur zu geringsten Luftströmungen durch die Profilkasten, die einen für eine natürliche Belüftung des Innenraumes ausreichenden Luftaustausch ausschließen und keinen befriedigenden Lüftungseffekt mit sich bringen. Zum spürbaren Lüften des Innenraumes muß daher das Vorsatzfenster geöffnet werden, wodurch aber zwangsweise die Schutzwirkung dieser Abdeckvorrichtung verlorengeht. Ein Verlust insbesondere der Schalldämmung gerade beim Lüften eines Innenraumes wird in warmer Jahreszeit besonders unangenehm empfunden, da der Wunsch nach Frischluft dann häufig nur unter erheblicher Lärmbelästigung erfüllbar ist. Dieser Luftdurchtrittsspalt mit seinem verhältnismäßig größen Durchströmquerschnitt erlaubt den für die gewünschte natürliche Belüftung erforderlichen intensiven Luftaustausch, wobei die Schalldämpfereinrichtung für einen ausreichenden Dämmeffekt sorgt. Es gibt keine Notwendigkeit eines Öffnens der Abdeckvorrichtung mehr und die angestrebte Schallschutzwirkung ist jederzeit auch während eines Lüftens gewährleistet. Durch entsprechende Anordnung der Profilkasten, vorzugsweise an einander gegenüberliegenden Seiten der Vorsatzschale, lassen sich außerdem bestimmte Luftströmungen und damit das angenehme Gefühl eines natürlichen Luftzuges erzielen.
