Definitions

  • the present invention relates to pliers into which objects to be machined in a pair of punches can be inserted from at least two directions, and in particular to crimping pliers for attaching contact elements such as wire end ferrules or the like to electrical conductors.
  • pliers with side entry i.e. in the direction perpendicular to the device plane
  • pliers with front entry front entry
  • Device level is understood here to mean the level in which the handles of a pair of pliers are located and move, and in which the stamp also moves.
  • Front introduction means an introduction of the processing object into the pair of punches from the front end of the device, in the device plane and in the longitudinal direction of the device body and / or the handles.
  • pliers can be divided into those with scissor-like mutual movement (pivoting movement) of the punches or jaws or the legs carrying them or the like, and those with vice-like (parallel) mutual movement of the links mentioned.
  • the pair of jaws is articulated by means of one of the rear extensions on the outside of one of the leg parts in such a way that it can be rotated about an axis lying in the device plane, so that the entire pair of jaws can be pivoted out of the device plane.
  • a drive rod is slidably arranged between the two parts mentioned, which goes through openings in the other leg part and in the extension of the other jaw.
  • the purpose of the rotatable arrangement of the pair of jaws is to considerably reduce the cost share in the storage of pliers, but the device does not allow a choice between front introduction in the sense of the definition given above and side introduction; the jaws only allow side entry.
  • the pair of jaws arranged on the outside of one leg part forms a structure which protrudes from the conventional outline of a pair of pliers and increases the dimensions of the device.
  • the jaws, particularly in their pivoted-out position, cannot apply as much force to the processing object as if it were within a pair of legs. And vigorous loading is e.g. required when crimping certain contact elements.
  • GB-A 2 072 081 by the applicant describes a pair of pliers with side entry with a pair of handles extending in a device plane, a pair of leg members connected to the handles and being movable between a maximum distance and a minimum distance from one another and having a free end have an inner side facing the other leg member, and with a pair of cooperating stamp members which can be acted upon by the leg members and which are arranged on the inside of each of the leg members in the region of its free end.
  • One of the leg members is pivotally connected by means of a spring-loaded pin.
  • Each stamp member can be pivoted about a pivot axis running perpendicular to the device plane and an alignment element is provided in order to maintain the mutual parallel position of the two punch members.
  • the object of the present invention is to create a pair of pliers which optionally allows lateral or frontal insertion without noticeably larger dimensions and / or reduced load capacity compared to a comparable conventional pliers.
  • the pliers 1 according to FIG. 1 has two leg parts 12, 22 and two handles 11, 21, of which the leg part 12 and the handle 11 are combined to form a rigid device body 10, and the handle 21 can be pivoted to the one by means of a pin 23 independent leg member forming leg portion 22, or a rear extension portion 22 'thereof, is connected.
  • the handles 11, 21 lie in a common plane, the drawing plane of FIG. 1, which is the device plane.
  • the leg member 22 is pivotally connected to the device body 10 by means of a spring-mounted pin 24, in a manner which is outside the scope of the present invention and is described in more detail, for example, in British Patent 2,072,081 mentioned at the beginning.
  • the leg members 12, 22 can be moved between a position of maximum mutual distance and a position of minimum mutual distance.
  • a lower punch 32 or upper punch 42 are rotatable in the leg parts 12 and 22 about a common axis of rotation D (FIGS. 2 and 3) lying in the device plane, and at the same time pivotable about one perpendicular to the device plane Pivot axis S (Fig. 5) mounted.
  • the punch members 32 and 42 are arranged on the mutually facing inner sides of the leg parts 12, 22, in the region of the free ends of the leg parts.
  • the upper stamp 42 has a substantially square (FIG. 5) base plate 43, from one side (the lower one of FIG. 2) of which a convex stamp element 44 protrudes.
  • a pivot pin 45 protrudes from the opposite (the upper) side of the base plate 43, which can be seen more clearly as the pivot pin 45 'in FIG. 2 and which serves for the rotatable mounting of the upper punch 42 in the leg member 22.
  • the lower punch 32 has a base plate 33 of the same shape, i.e. likewise essentially square, on the one side (the upper one in FIG. 3) of which a concave stamp element 34 corresponding to the stamp element 44 is arranged.
  • a pivot 35 protrudes, which is identical to the pivot 45 and can be seen more clearly as the pivot 35 'in FIG. 3; it serves for the rotatable mounting of the lower stamp 32 in the leg part 12.
  • the lower and the upper stamp together form a pair of cooperating stamp members 32, 42.
  • An upper punch 42 ' accordinging to FIG. 2 has a convex stamp element 44' which is somewhat modified with respect to FIG. 1A and a pivot pin 45 'which has an axial threaded bore 45'b and four depressions 45'a on the circumference.
  • a lower punch 32 ' accordinging to the invention has a concave stamp element 34' corresponding to the convex stamp element 44 ', and a pivot pin 35' identical to the pivot pin 45 'with an axial threaded bore 35'b and four depressions 35'a on the circumference.
  • each cylindrical guide pins 46 and 46' are also embedded or anchored, which protrude on the same side as the convex stamp element 44 or 44 '.
  • the base plate 33 and 33 ' which is considerably thicker than the base plate 43 and 43', there are two receiving openings 33'a provided with the same cross-section for the guide pins 46, 46 '.
  • the free length L of the guide pins 46, 46 ' is selected such that the guide pins 46, 46' engage with one end part in the receiving openings 33'a even when the two punch members 33 ', 43' are at a maximum distance.
  • the length of the receiving openings 33'a is at least equal to the maximum mutual distance of the two punch members 33 ', 43' plus the length of the end part mentioned.
  • the thickness B of the base plate 33 or 33 'must understandably correspond to the same condition, or it can possibly be greater, namely if the receiving openings 33'a are designed as blind holes.
  • This dimensioning means that the guide pins 46, 46 'can never leave the receiving openings 33'a with their free ends, but also can never protrude with their free ends from the opposite side of the base plate 33'. The latter circumstance could interfere with the setting of any rotational positions of the pair of punches.
  • the two guide pins 46, 46 'and the receiving openings 33'a which are preferably arranged in the region of diagonally opposite and advantageously rounded corners such as 43a (FIG. 5) of the base plates 33, 33' and 43, 43 ', respectively a driver element, which ensures identical rotational position of the two punch members 32, 42 without impairing their mutual approach movement.
  • the entrainment member 33'a, 46 ' also fulfills a second function, namely that of an aligning member, which ensures the mutually parallel position of the two punch members 32, 42 (in principle, of course, the entrainment and aligning function can also be provided by separate members).
  • the pliers 1, i.e. Both the device body 10 and the leg member 22 are produced in a manner known per se from two parallel side plates such as 22a, 22b (FIG. 5), which are formed by means of rivets such as 22 ′′ and spacing elements such as 22 ′′ a (FIG. 5 ) at a selected mutual distance, ie with an empty space Z (Fig. 5).
  • pivots 35, 35 ', 45, 45' are in this space Z (and in the corresponding space in the leg part 12) rotatably mounted, with advantage by means of identical inserts 50, preferably made of plastic, according to FIG. 4.
  • the inserts 50 are essentially U-shaped, with two arm parts 50a, 50b, which are connected by a web part 50c, and have tapered free ends.
  • Circular or cylindrical indentations 50a ', 50b' are provided in the inner sides of the arm parts 50a, 50b, the parts of a single cylindrical pivot bearing with a radius of curvature which is substantially equal to that of the cross-sectional area of the pivot pins 35, 35 ', 45, 45' , form.
  • the arm parts 50a, 50b also have on their outer sides, for example in the region of the indentations 50a ', 50b' in the inner sides, short stub axles 50a '', 50b '', the length of which is of the order of the thickness A (FIG. 5) Side plates 22a, 22b lies. Bearing openings 22a ', 12a' for the stub axles 50a '', 50b '' are provided in the side plates 22a, 22b. Analog openings are also provided in the side plates of the leg part 12.
  • the stub axles 50a ′′, 50b ′′ represent the pivot axis S of the respective punch member 32 ′, 42 ′.
  • the two inserts 50 are first inserted with their stub axles 50a ′′, 50b ′′ into the openings 12a ′, 22a ′ in the leg parts 12, 22 by slightly compressing their arm parts.
  • pivot pins 35, 35 ', 45, 45' which embody the axis of rotation D of the punch members 32, 42, are then inserted into the bulges 50a ', 50b'.
  • the length of the pivot pin 35 etc. corresponds to the width G of the arm parts 50a, 50b of the insert 50.
  • a washer 52 is fastened to the free end of the pivot pin 35 etc. by means of a screw 51 screwed into the axial threaded bore 35'b, 45'b .
  • the outer diameter F of the washer 52 is smaller than the mutual distance C of the inner surfaces of the side plates, such as 22a, 22b, and larger than the mutual distance E of the inner surfaces of the arm parts 50a, 50b in the region of the Indentations 50a ', 50b'.
  • the pair of punches 32, 42, 32 ', 42' can thus be transferred in any direction from the position according to FIG. 1A for the lateral introduction of a processing object into the position according to FIG. 1B for front introduction (and of course also in any intermediate position).
  • the two punch members 32, 42, 32 ', 42' are connected by the driver member 33'a, 46 'for common rotation, it is sufficient if a snap-in member is provided only for one of the punch members.
  • the latching element can also be used elsewhere, e.g. be arranged on the mutually facing surfaces of the leg parts and the base plates, and in principle the snap-in function can be omitted at all.
  • the driving element can also be designed differently, and e.g. consist of a single guide pin of non-circular cross-section and a corresponding receiving opening.
  • the stamp members can have a plurality of stamp elements for processing objects of different sizes in a manner known per se.
  • the invention is of course also applicable to pliers where both leg parts are rigidly connected to the handles or where both leg parts are articulated to the handles.
