Definitions

  • the field of the present invention is that of containers capable of receiving a propellant charge and more particularly that of containers used in the field of large caliber or tank artillery.
  • Modular cylindrical containers which have been made of combustible material have already been defined. Thanks to their rigidity, such containers are easier to use than traditional powder sachets.
  • Patent EP341270 proposes containers that are entirely symmetrical and that contain narrows arranged at each of their ends. It is possible to secure two or more containers by means of a ring whose length is substantially equal to twice the length of the necks.
  • the ring cannot be left permanently on the container because by remaining on the end container (projectile side), it would unnecessarily increase the total size of the load. It could also be damaged during handling.
  • the rigidity of the assembly essentially depends on the value of the tightening of the ring on the necks, this tightening itself depending on the amplitude of the deformation of the lateral surface of the necking by the ring which carries bulges.
  • Such a configuration is not suitable for loads whose mass can be of the order of ten DaN (case of charges for tank ammunition).
  • the loads are thus likely not to be axially aligned which can cause incidents when the assembly is introduced into the chamber, especially if the latter is carried out by an automatic charger.
  • the invention thus applies as well to the realization of modular loads as of loads in at least two loads, one carrying the main load and its igniter tube and the other the projectile (and possibly, but not necessarily, a secondary charge).
  • the subject of the invention is a container, in particular for a propellant charge, and which is intended to be made integral with another container at one of its front faces, by securing means comprising means of '' hanging on one and / or the other container to level of the front faces intended to come into mutual contact, characterized in that the securing means further comprise a ring arranged on a constriction arranged at one end of the container, the ring being capable of sliding in an axial direction to come cover a second shrink fitted on the other container.
  • the ring ensures the alignment of the containers as well as the bending stiffness of the assembly.
  • the attachment means ensure the axial connection of the containers.
  • the ring also improves the resistance of the attachment means by preventing them from any shear stress.
  • the ring can occupy a first position in which it is set back relative to the front face considered of the container as well as a second position in which it protrudes from this front face.
  • means for axially locking the position of the ring relative to the container are provided.
  • These locking means may comprise at least two elastic blades, integral with the container at the level of generators of the constriction carrying the ring and regularly distributed angularly relative to the container, these blades being capable of coming to form a stop immobilizing the ring in its second position.
  • the ring has openings in which the elastic blades come when the ring is in its first position.
  • the attachment means comprise hook-and-loop elements.
  • the container according to the invention may be of the modular type, in this case it has a constriction at each of its ends, the constrictions being of different lengths and the ring being disposed on the longest constriction.
  • the container according to the invention could also constitute the basic container or else the projectile-carrying container for a load in at least two loads.
  • Figures 1 and 2 show the relative ends of two containers according to the invention before and after their joining.
  • FIG. 3 represents a modular type container according to the invention.
  • FIG. 4 represents a load in two bundles comprising a base container and a projectile container according to the invention.
  • a container 1 is shown schematically and partially.
  • This container is produced in a known manner from a combustible material such as nitrocellulose or else cardboard, it contains a propellant charge in grain or in sticks not shown here, as well as possibly one or more ignition compositions.
  • a constriction 5 is arranged at this end and it carries a ring 2 also made of a combustible material. To facilitate the description, the ring is shown cut on the left half of this figure 1.
  • the outer diameter of the ring is substantially equal to that of the container itself.
  • a certain number of elastic blades 9, made for example of spring steel, are made integral with the container for example by riveting at the level of generatrices of the constriction 5.
  • These blades are regularly distributed angularly relative to the container and they come in slots 10 made on the ring 2.
  • the ring can slide relative to the container 1 in the axial direction XX ′.
  • the elasticity of the blades 9 keeps the ring in its first position such that represented in FIG. 1, that is to say in abutment on the shoulder 7 which separates the constriction 5 from the body of the container 1.
  • the front face 3 of the container carries in the particular embodiment which is described here an attachment means 4 which will be for example an adhesive paper.
  • the ring 2 and the attachment means 4 constitute means allowing the first container to be secured with another container similar or not to the first.
  • the ring In its first position shown in FIG. 1, the ring is set back relative to the front face 4 of the container 1, such an arrangement has the advantage of preventing deterioration of the ring following handling of the container.
  • FIG. 2 shows the previous container 1 assembled to another container 1a by means of the fastening means described above.
  • the ring occupies a second position in which it protrudes from the front face 3 (shown in dotted lines).
  • the front face 3 of the container 1 is in contact with the front face of the container 1a, the attachment means are located between these two faces and provide the axial connection of the two containers.
  • the ring being in contact with the constrictions of the two containers, ensures the bending stiffness of the assembly and also improves the resistance of the attachment means by preventing them from any shear stress.
  • the ring does not directly participate in the axial attachment of the containers, this avoids misalignments which are encountered in the system according to the state of the art in which a ring achieves punctual deformations of the constrictions.
  • the dimensions of the components of the containers and of the securing means will be chosen so that the ring comes to bear on the shoulder 8 of the second container 1a when the blades 9 are themselves in support on the rear face 11 of the Ring.
  • the ring is completely immobilized axially.
  • the attachment means may comprise an adhesive paper carried by the second container 1a, the first container carrying only the ring.
  • the attachment means can advantageously be constituted by self-gripping elements (for example of the Velcro type (registered trademark)), an element being disposed on the front face of the container 1 and an element of the complementary type being disposed on the front face of the container 1a.
  • self-gripping elements for example of the Velcro type (registered trademark)
  • the attachment means will preferably have a crown shape so as to leave the axis of the container free. This in order to facilitate the transmission of ignition from one container to another.
  • FIG. 3 represents a modular type container according to the invention. This container made of combustible material is intended to be assembled with other containers which are completely identical to it.
  • the constrictions 5 and 6 are of different lengths and the ring 2 (shown in section, the blades not being shown) is placed on the longest constriction 5.
  • the front faces 3a, 3b carry hooking elements 4a, 4b hook and loop.
  • the hook-and-loop element 4a being of the type complementary to the element 4b.
  • Such a container is particularly suitable for field artillery.
  • FIG. 4 shows two containers according to the invention constituting a load in two bundles, for example for an armored vehicle.
  • This load comprises a base container 12 (shown in half section) which carries a base 14, for example metallic, an igniter tube 15 and which contains a propellant charge 17.
  • projectile container 13 which here contains a propellant charge (not shown) and optionally an ignition composition of the latter and on which is disposed a projectile 16 of known type (explosive, arrow or other).
  • the base container 12 carries the ring 2 on a constriction 5 as well as a hook-and-loop fastening element 4a on the front face 3a (the means of axial locking of the ring are of the type described above and are not shown here to simplify the figure).
  • the projectile container 13 has a constriction 6 (preferably shorter than the constriction 5 of the base container) and it carries a hook-and-loop fastening element 4b, of the type complementary to the element 4a, on its front face 3b.
  • hook-and-loop elements with one or more adhesive sheets placed on one and / or the other of the two containers.
