  • the present invention concerns a packing material, preferably in the form of a bag, which is intended for packaging potatoes and similar light-sensitive vegetable products, as set out in the preamble of claim 1.
  • Bags of strong paper yield a relatively good protection against irradiation, but have several drawbacks limiting their use. Paper bags are injurous to the environment, and they give waste problems and require rather large amounts of energy in the production. Finally, paper is non-transparent, which prevents inspection of the article without opening the bag. It would be obvious to use bags of non-toxic and inexpensive plastics materials, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, but these materials are transparent in their non-coloured state and provide no protection against UV light. To obtain effective light protection the plastics sheet would have to be dyed with large amounts of light absorbing colouring matters or be coated with a strong layer of a light reflecting metallic layer, such as of aluminium, which would make the package very expensive.

At least one of the plastics sheets is strongly dyed with a dark covering colouring matter or pigment.

The best light protection is obtained when the light reflecting materials are arranged outermost.

Claims (3)

  1. Verpackungsmaterial zum Schutz von Kartoffeln und ähnlich lichtempfindlichen Gemüsepflanzen vor UV-Licht, mit zumindest einer Kunststoffolie, zumindest einem lichtreflektierenden Metallüberzug, der auf die Oberfläche der Kunststoffolie oder einer dieser Folien aufgebracht wird, und zumindest einem lichtabsorbierenden Farbstoff, der in die Kunststoffolie bzw. eine dieser Folien eingearbeitet ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der lichtreflektierende Metallüberzug in Form von Metallteilchen aufgetragen wird, die in einem Bindemittel suspendiert sind, daß die Dicke bzw. die Dichte des lichtreflektierenden Metallüberzugs so ausgelegt ist, daß nur ein Teil des einfallenden Lichts reflektiert wird, und daß der lichtabsorbierende Farbstoff je nach Art des Farbstoffs in so einer Menge auf zumindest eine der Kunststoffolien aufgetragen bzw. in diese eingearbeitet wird, daß ein beträchtlicher Teil des UV-Lichts, der nicht von dem Metallüberzug reflektiert wird, von dem Farbstoff absorbiert wird.
  2. Verpackungsmaterial nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es wie ein Beutel geformt ist, wobei eine Seite davon mit den lichtreflektierenden und lichtabsorbierenden Materialien versehen ist, und die andere Seite durchsichtig ist oder teilweise mit den lichtreflektierenden und lichtabsorbierenden Materialien derart versehen ist, daß diese andere Seite durchsichtige Flächen aufweist.
  3. Verpackungsmaterial nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Metallüberzug eine aufgetragene Aluminiumschicht ist.
