- An air intake system known from DE-AS 1 066 887 consists of two V-shaped intake lines. Air filters are attached to both intake lines at the front of the motor vehicle and at the ends of the V-legs. In the V-center, the intake lines unite in a mouthpiece, from which a common line leads to the carburetor of the internal combustion engine. The upper halves of the air intake lines are attached to the bonnet cover and, when the bonnet cover is closed, are sealed and placed on the lower, fixed halves.
- the two intake lines are routed in a U-shape around the internal combustion engine, there is sufficient space above and to the side of the internal combustion engine for the attachment of additional devices.
- the symmetrical design and the same dimensioning of the intake lines offers the possibility of arranging an air mass meter in only one of the two intake lines and indirectly measuring the total air mass flow by detecting half the air mass flow. - the signal of the air mass meter 11 is significant for the total air mass flow and the amount of fuel to be injected can be measured according to it. If, for example, different air mass flows result from pipe deposits and thus a mismatch in the injection quantity, this can be determined by the signals from the two lambda probes 18 and corrected on the control unit (not shown).
