Definitions

  • the invention relates to an oil pan for an internal combustion engine with a flat bottom part and a deep trough section as an oil sump and an intake pipe of an oil pump opening into the deep trough section, the deep trough section being designed as a removable oil pan which receives an oil filter into which the intake pipe is immersed.
  • Such an oil pan for an internal combustion engine is known from US-A-3 211 256.
  • the oil pan in the area of the flat base part is designed as an oil pan and the oil pan, which is designed as a plastic part, is round.
  • the oil pan can be screwed to the flat bottom part of the oil pan and the oil pan merges into the oil pan in the area of the flat bottom part with a smaller transition diameter than the inside dimensions of the oil pan.
  • An oil pan for an internal combustion engine with a flat bottom part and a deep trough section as an oil sump and an intake pipe of an oil pump immersed in the deep trough section, is also known from DE 35 31 352 C1. It is in addition, from DE 38 30 966 C1 an oil pan for an internal combustion engine is known, in which a surge pot insert is provided adjacent to the bottom of the oil pan, into which an intake pipe of an oil pump is immersed.
  • the problem is solved in an oil pan of the type mentioned in that the oil filter is ring-shaped and is closed on the side facing away from the bottom of the oil pan by means of a ring cover which the suction pipe penetrates in a sealed manner, and a guided discharge of the between the oil filter and the ring cover collecting gas is provided in the system of crankcase ventilation of the internal combustion engine.
  • the volume of the oil pan is dimensioned such that it can hold all of the oil flowing in the internal combustion engine. When the internal combustion engine is at a standstill, all of the oil collects in the oil pan and can be disposed of after it has been dismantled, possibly together with the oil pan. It is therefore possible to change the oil without draining the oil. It is considered preferred if the oil pan is made of sheet metal or plastic, but it is also conceivable to design it as a cast part. The oil pan can be assembled and disassembled particularly easily if it is designed to be screwable to the flat bottom part of the oil pan.
  • the improved degassing and an increase in the amount of filtrate is brought about.
  • the resulting vacuum filtration can be used for this to achieve a further improvement in the quality of the oil and to help minimize the number of components in the filter.
  • Vacuum filtration also makes it easier to use alternative filter materials that mean less pollution, for example the use of sintered materials.
  • the oil filter should have a radial opening, which is connected via a line to an opening in the oil pan, which in turn interacts with a line leading to the crankcase ventilation system in the flat bottom part of the oil pan.
  • the line of the oil pan is thus inevitably connected to the line leading to the crankcase ventilation system.
  • the system itself is appropriately coordinated, for example by means of a throttle valve in the line path.
  • a by-pass system should be provided. This can be, for example, by means of the level or also pressure-controlled. In the latter case, it is considered expedient if the oil filter rests on the bottom of the oil pan or is closed at the bottom and a valve connects the dirt side and the clean side of the oil filter with one another, the valve opening when a defined negative pressure is reached on the clean side.
  • the opening of the valve can be passed on as a signal to the dashboard of the vehicle, which provides the driver with the information to replace the oil pan including the oil filter.
  • the oil pan merges into the oil pan in the area of the flat bottom part with a smaller transition diameter than the internal dimensions of the oil pan. This greatly minimizes the surface area available in the area of the flat bottom part of the oil pan and oil pan for gas absorption in the oil, which has an extremely positive effect on the lubrication quality.
  • the removed oil pot can be closed by means of a lid, the lid also covering the gas line leading out of the oil pot.
  • the aforementioned design of the oil pan forms an excellent basis for a recycling system based on the replaceable oil pan. So it is fundamentally conceivable that when an oil change is required, one filled with fresh oil and the oil pot closed with the lid is exchanged for another oil pot attached to the vehicle and holding the used oil. For this purpose, the oil pan receiving the old oil must be removed from the flat bottom part of the oil pan, the old oil then remains in this oil pan, which is closed by means of the lid which previously closed the oil pan for the fresh oil.
  • the sealed oil pot with the used oil is placed in a recycling system, where the used oil and, if necessary, an oil filter integrated in the oil pot are exchanged and the oil pot is cleaned, checked and provided with fresh oil and a new filter, as well as closed with a lid the circulation system.
  • a mandatory safety device is present which prevents oil from getting into the environment in an uncontrolled manner.
  • the oil pan which functions as a replacement bowl, is safely processed with the used oil.
  • the reusability of the oil pot and its lid saves raw materials and energy.
  • the lid is expediently plate-shaped or bell-shaped.
  • the lid is advantageously attached to the oil pan by means of the same fastening elements that are used to attach the oil pan to the flat bottom part of the oil pan.
  • fastening elements in particular screws, seal a bottom part and a lid part of the oil pan adjacent to an upper oil pan opening cooperating with a lower opening of the flat bottom part, and these fastening elements when removed Oil pot can be connected to the cover, in particular can be screwed into it.
  • an elastic sealing element in particular a sealing ring, should be arranged between the cover part of the oil pan and the cover.
  • the oil filter is advantageously ring-shaped and the cover on its side facing the oil pan is provided with a rotationally symmetrical attachment, in particular a truncated cone-shaped attachment that tapers away from the lid, which, when the lid is connected to the oil pan, comes into contact with the ring opening of the oil filter facing the lid .
  • a rotationally symmetrical attachment in particular a truncated cone-shaped attachment that tapers away from the lid, which, when the lid is connected to the oil pan, comes into contact with the ring opening of the oil filter facing the lid.
  • FIGS 1 to 3 show a relatively flat oil pan 1 with a bottom opening 2, in the area of which an oil pan 3 is connected to the oil pan 1.
  • the oil pan 1 and the oil pan 3 together form the oil pan of the internal combustion engine, which is not otherwise shown in detail.
  • the version shown in these figures is intended for the longitudinal installation of the internal combustion engine, the bottom opening 2 of the oil pan 1 is seen at the front in the direction of travel at a slightly lower level than the rear bottom region of the oil pan 1, so that there is a natural flow gradient within the oil pan 1 Bottom opening 2 results.
  • a suction pipe 4 connected to an oil pump (not shown in more detail) is connected by means of two screws 5 to a floor segment 7 arranged within the bottom opening 2 of the oil pan 1 in the bottom plane 6 of the oil pan 1, which in turn is articulated to the actual oil pan 1 via two webs 8 is.
  • the suction pipe 4 is bell-shaped at its lower end and provided with a sieve 9 which is slightly spaced from the oil pan base 10 when the oil pan 3 is installed.
  • the oil pot 3 is designed as a sheet metal part, with a trough-shaped pot base part 3a and a pot lid part 3b having an opening 3c, which are tightly connected to one another in the region of a flanged edge 11.
  • the oil pan 1 In the oil pan 1 is a cylindrical oil filter 18 with Elastic ring cover 18a is used, the inside diameter of the actual filter element being slightly larger than the outside diameter of the sieve 9 and its outside diameter being smaller by such an amount than the diameter of the bottom opening 2, and furthermore the elastic ring cover 18a sealingly rests on the inside of the associated suction pipe section of the suction pipe 4 .
  • the oil flowing out in the region of the opening curve 19 of the oil pan 1 thus reaches the oil pan 3 outside the oil filter 18 and is filtered as it flows in through the oil filter 18 to the intake manifold 4.
  • the oil filter 18 itself can essentially be designed like an air filter that is usually used in motor vehicles.
  • Crosspieces 24 arranged on the outside of the upper edge of the oil filter 18 and supported on the underside of the pot lid part 3b can additionally be provided in order to ensure both a defined position of the oil filter 18 in its axial direction and a permanently secure contact with the pot bottom part 3.
  • the reference number 20 shows the oil level when the internal combustion engine is at a standstill, in this operating state the oil pan 3 is about three-quarters full.
  • the oblique line assigned to number 21 illustrates the oil level on an incline of approximately 30%.
  • the size of the oil pan 3 can be dimensioned differently depending on the vehicle type, in the exemplary embodiment it is assumed that at a level according to the reference number 20 there is an amount of oil of about 5.5 liters in the oil pot, about 4.5 liters when climbing.
  • the oil pump In operation. Of the internal combustion engine, the oil pump, not shown, sucks the oil through the oil filter 18 into the intake manifold 4 and delivers it from there to the various lubrication points of the internal combustion engine. By sucking off the oil on the glossy side of the filter, not only any particles from the area of the oil pump but also gas, which is caused by the Gas movement in the crankcase was enriched in the returning oil. The oil flows back into the oil pan 1 from the lubrication points, the defined oil guidance to the bottom opening 2 of the oil pan 1 being supported by ribs 22 arranged in the oil pan 1. Additional components (not shown) arranged in the area of the oil pan 1 can be used to separate the gas from the returning oil.
  • a communicating tube 23 which is open in the rear region of the oil pan 1, is connected to the suction pipe 4, and its function prevents the oil from splashing when driving uphill.
  • the oil filter 18 itself can essentially be designed like an air filter that is usually used in motor vehicles.
  • Crosspieces 24 arranged on the outside of the upper edge of the oil filter 18 and supported on the underside of the pot lid part 3b can additionally be provided in order to ensure both a defined position of the oil filter 18 in its axial direction and a permanently secure contact with the pot base part 3.
  • FIG. 4 shows the oil pan 3 removed and closed with a flat, plate-shaped cover 25.
  • the four screws 13 were first loosened, the lower section of the suction pipe 4 was pulled out of the oil filter 18 and then the cover 25 was opened directly of the oil pan 3 placed and fastened with this by means of the four screws 13.
  • the connection of the cover 25 and the oil pan 3 results in a sealed closure of the oil pan, which prevents the used oil from escaping.
  • the manner in which the screws 13 are fastened to the cover 25 is not clarified in the illustration in FIG. 4; for this purpose the cover 25 can be used, for example Tapped holes may be provided or with a through hole, so that in the latter case the screws 13 are screwed into nuts.
  • the circular cover 25 is provided on its side facing the oil pan 3 with a centrally arranged truncated cone extension 25a, which serves to center the cover 25 on the filter 18 or the oil pan 3, in that, when the cover 25 is placed on the oil pan 3, on the circumferential inner contour of the ring cover 18a.
  • FIG. 5 shows, compared to FIG. 2, the design of the oil pan with the removable oil pan and guided gas discharge.
  • the suction pipe 4 passes through the elastic ring cover 18a which closes the oil filter 18 at the top.
  • the oil filter 18 has a radial opening 26 adjacent to the ring cover 18a, which is connected via a line 27 to an opening 28 in the pot cover part 3b.
  • the opening 28 interacts with a line 29 leading to the crankcase ventilation system (not shown) in the oil pan 1.
  • the oil filter 18 rests on the oil pan base 10 and a valve 30 connects the dirt side and the clean side of the oil filter 18 to one another.
  • the valve 30 comprises, in a manner not shown in detail, a closure element biased by a spring and closing the valve opening in the direction of the dirt side. If the oil filter 18 is contaminated and the oil filter 18 is less permeable, an increased negative pressure is established on the clean side of the oil filter 18. The defined vacuum level leads to the valve 30 opening in the direction of the clean side, so that the oil reaches the clean side in the manner of a bypass.
  • the opening of the valve 30 can be detected in the usual way and the driver in the area of the dashboard are shown, with the information that the oil pan 3 with the oil contained therein and the oil filter 18 are to be replaced. After the oil pot 3 has been removed and closed by means of the lid 25, this covers not only the central opening 3c but also the opening 28.
