Definitions

  • the invention relates to furniture in the form of a cupboard or shelf with a floor and a ceiling and with two side walls each formed as a plate-shaped body and a rear wall, at their two vertical longitudinal edges with the vertical longitudinal edges of the side walls each via an extruded profile which is connected by one Middle piece outgoing holding legs and at least one linear, deformable hinge zone, the holding legs are arranged in pairs and parallel to each other and include between them a receiving groove for a plate-shaped body and overlap the said vertical longitudinal edges.
  • the cupboards and shelves are primarily office furniture that usually have a height of between 90 and 240 cm.
  • the rear walls are usually fastened by screws or inlaid clips in order to produce the required transverse and torsional rigidity. This type of fastening can only be used in manufacturing, so that the volume to be transported is correspondingly large.
  • a connecting part is known from DE-U-74 02 204, which, however, can only be accommodated in cavities in miter-cut board-shaped parts which are produced from plastic in the extrusion process.
  • the board-shaped parts are preferably frames of drawers.
  • a connection of cupboard or shelf walls made of solid panels is not possible with these connecting parts, which, moreover, do not allow a continuous connection over the length of the miter joint.
  • corner connectors are known, which should also be suitable for the corners of so-called frames, as are required for drawers and other boxes.
  • the board-shaped components forming the frame butt abut the corner connectors.
  • Chipboards usually have a zone at this point due to incomplete compression during pressing Lowest strength, but also with other materials, this type of fastening creates forces that can cause splitting in the board-shaped components. If an additional positive connection between the parts of the corner connector is described, this is done by inserting rod-shaped profiles from the ends. However, this possibility is limited to relatively short lengths of the corner connectors, because the rod-shaped material with longer lengths either leads to jamming or does not guarantee a sufficient form fit.
  • This corner connector is also not suitable for the longitudinal edges of cupboards and shelves.
  • corner connectors in which on a rigid, hollow section formed as a central part at both ends in pairs mutually parallel retaining webs are arranged, which enclose the ends of furniture walls between them and by ribs, which are in complementary grooves in the furniture walls intervene, also enable a connection that is not easily separable.
  • this type of corner connector does not function as a hinge. With a complete assembly in the manufacturing plant, the furniture walls can no longer be folded together; When assembling on site, complicated work must be carried out, which is usually not possible for a layperson. Due to the necessity of pushing the components into one another in the longitudinal direction of the grooves, this type of fastening can also only be used on furniture walls of small depth, since with longer lengths an insurmountable clamping occurs very quickly, the connection should have sufficient strength.
  • DE-A-2 257 957 discloses collapsible or foldable cabinet elements, the walls and doors of which are connected to one another by extruded extruded profiles and by means of pins which are passed through transverse bores in the walls and the extruded profiles.
  • the extruded profiles consist of two rigid strip-shaped longitudinal elements which are connected to each other by a flexible zone.
  • This solution requires open grooves in the panel edges to accommodate the longitudinal elements and, because of the length of the flexible zones, does not lead to clean, sharp-edged corners or rigid corner connections. On the one hand, this enables folding by 180 °, on the other hand, the strength is only achieved through the used shelves. For coated chipboard only, this solution cannot be used without special preparation of the edges: the application of frame profiles and the presence of cover plates is required.
  • GB-A-2 103 752 only discloses rigid corner and intermediate profiles which prevent the construction of a foldable or collapsible cabinet.
  • a corner connector of the type specified at the outset is known, which is also provided for the connection of side walls and rear wall of cupboards.
  • the so-called center piece is essentially rigid; it can only have a soft outside in order to achieve a protective and buffering effect.
  • the known corner connector is preferably provided for vehicle furniture in which a vertical alignment of the wall parts to one another is not always possible.
  • each of the four holding legs arranged on the middle piece is connected to said middle piece via a film or film hinge.
  • the easy pivoting of the individual holding legs - also relative to one another - makes it necessary to connect the holding legs to the cabinet walls by nailing, screwing or gluing.
  • Pre-assembly in the manufacturer's plant to a foldable cabinet is not possible in this way, and after assembly, the angular position of the individual walls can no longer be changed, unless the nails, screws or glue points would be loosened again.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a piece of furniture of the type described at the outset, which allows preassembly and a pivoting angle of the plate-shaped bodies up to at least 270 degrees and fixes the plate-shaped bodies in a defined angular position to one another at one end of the pivoting range, that neither a continuation of the pivoting movement nor a transverse displacement of the plate-shaped body is possible within the butt joint between the joint parts.
  • a pivoting angle of the plate-shaped bodies up to at least 270 degrees is possible.
  • the plate-shaped bodies are fixed in a defined angular position to one another at one end of the pivoting area, in such a way that neither a continuation of the pivoting movement nor a transverse displacement of the plate-shaped bodies within the butt joint between the joint parts is possible.
  • the linear hinge zone can consist of a thin strand of an elastomeric material that is located between the support parts, and of a film that is glued flat onto the support parts, the unsupported central area of which then forms the film hinge.
  • the plate-shaped body can consist of very different materials, for example coated or uncoated chipboard, blockboard, plywood or plastic plates.
  • the connecting joints enable partial pre-assembly and then extremely space-saving folding and shipping or transportation of the furniture, but at the same time extremely easy assembly of the furniture at the installation site.
  • each plate-shaped body is inserted between two holding legs and thereby forms a firm, mechanically highly stressable connection with the associated joint part.
  • the holding legs run parallel to the surfaces of the plate-shaped body, so that there is also a reliable spatial fixation of the interconnected parts.
  • the gripping of the edges of the plate-shaped bodies by means of the holding legs prevents the plate-shaped bodies from splitting apart, for example, under the action of external forces, which is possible, for example, in the case of edge reinforcements which have a fir tree-shaped rib in a corresponding groove in the edge of a plate-shaped body are used.
  • Characteristic c ensures that the individual hinge parts can be pushed from the side onto the correspondingly machined longitudinal edges of the cabinet walls and snap into place.
  • the particularly firm connection between the anchoring parts and the plate-shaped bodies is achieved in that the holding legs are provided on their inner sides with ribs for the positive engagement in complementary grooves in the plate-shaped bodies.
  • Feature f extremely effectively prevents the hinge parts from moving relative to one another and transversely to the joint zone.
  • the vertical longitudinal edges of the side walls and the rear wall in the area with which they engage in the groove between the holding legs are provided with inclined planes as a spreading aid for the holding legs, and if the holding legs are provided on the inside with projections, which compensate for the material removal in the area of the inclined planes.
  • the holding limbs have rib-shaped projections on their longitudinal edges parallel to the joint zone, which represent an extension of the holding limbs and lie on an unprocessed surface of the plate-shaped bodies.
  • a row of holes parallel to the joint zone is provided in at least one of the inner holding legs. Supporting elements for shelves can then be inserted into individual holes in this row of holes at variable intervals.
  • a row of holes parallel to the joint zone is arranged, for example, adjacent pieces of furniture can be connected to one another in a row arrangement.
  • the invention also relates to a method for assembling a piece of furniture.
  • This method is characterized in that the cabinet part consisting of the rear wall and the side walls is folded into a "U" around the two hinge zones, the floor and the ceiling, with respect to the vertical axis of the furniture, are inserted into the "U" in a form-fitting manner and firmly connects the side walls to the floor and ceiling, which can be done, for example, with a single screw on each side of the floor and ceiling, for a total of four screws.
  • FIG. 1 shows a connecting joint 1 lying inside a piece of furniture, which has a linear, deformable joint zone 2, which consists of soft PVC. It is a thin and narrow strip made of a highly elastic material, which is connected at both longitudinal edges to anchoring parts 3 and 4, which are designed as extruded profiles and run parallel to the joint zone 2.
  • the anchoring parts are made of a relatively rigid and rigid material, which enters into an intimate connection with the material of the joint zone 2. It is preferably so-called hard PVC.
  • the entire connecting joint thus also represents an extruded profile that can be broken down into corresponding partial lengths if necessary.
  • plate-shaped bodies 5 and 6 are inserted, which in the present case consist of chipboard with coatings 5a and 6a on both sides made of melamine resin.
  • the anchoring parts 3 and 4 have inner holding legs 3a and 4a and outer holding legs 3b and 4b.
  • the indication “inner” and “outer” refers to FIG. 8.
  • Said holding legs run parallel to the surfaces of the plate-shaped bodies 5 and 6 and thereby define so-called Main planes E1 and E2, which run parallel to the plate surfaces. With regard to the swivel angle of the plate-shaped parts, the main planes E1 and E2 must always be observed.
  • the main levels E1 and E2 are at an angle of 90 degrees to one another. This is then also the swivel angle by which the joint parts - starting from the position in FIG. 1 - have to be swiveled.
  • the holding legs 3a and 3b or 4a and 4b are each arranged on a support part 3c or 4c and are each formed in one piece with this.
  • the two support parts 3c and 4c are directly connected to the articulation zone 2 and have a prismatic cross section, which can be described simply as a right-angled triangular prism.
  • the two support parts 3c and 4c together with the joint zone 2 form the so-called center piece "M".
  • Each of the support parts has a first side surface 3d or 4d, which is flat and runs parallel to the associated main plane E1 or E2 and is aligned with the joint zone 2 or merges into it.
  • the support parts 3c and 4c also have second side surfaces 3e and 4e, which run at an acute angle to the first side surface 3d and 4d and are also flush with the articulation zone 2. Since in the present case the swivel angle - starting from the position in FIG. 1 - is 90 degrees, the said acute angles are 45 degrees in each case.
  • the side surfaces 3e and 4e are interrupted approximately in their center by mutually complementary engagement elements 3f and 4f, which in the end position of the joint parts according to Figures 4 and 5 intermesh and form a kind of tongue and groove connection, through which a relative displacement of the side surfaces 3e and 4e on each other and across the hinge zone 2 is blocked.
  • first side surfaces 3d and 4d and the second side surfaces 3e and 4e are such that when the anchoring parts 3, 4 are in the extended position, the first side surfaces 3d and 4d are also in the extended position Position (180 degree angle) and enclose joint zone 2 between them.
  • the second side surfaces 3e and 4e enclose an angle between them which corresponds to the predetermined pivoting angle of the anchoring parts 3 and 4 from the extended position according to FIG. 1.
  • the holding legs 3a and 3b or 4a and 4b are arranged on each support part 3c or 4c in pairs and parallel to one another and include between them a receiving groove 3g and 4g for each of the plate-shaped bodies 5 and 6, respectively.
  • Said holding limbs have ribs 7 on their inner sides for positive engagement in complementary grooves, not specified, in the plate-shaped bodies 5 and 6, respectively.
  • the surface coatings 5a and 6a are the bodies 5 and 6 removed, in order, if necessary, to be able to produce an even firmer connection by gluing and / or not to allow the wall thickness of the holding legs to appear so clearly.
  • the holding legs have rib-shaped projections 8 on their longitudinal edges parallel to the joint zone 2, which represent extensions of the holding legs and rest on the unprocessed surface of the respective plate-shaped body 5 or 6.
  • the processing edges of the coatings 5a and 6a are covered.
  • those side walls 3h and 4h which support the second side surfaces 3e and 4e are connected approximately in their center by means of an inner web 9 and 10 to at least one opposite wall surface of the support part in question.
  • the outer side surfaces 3d and 4d of the support parts 3c and 4c and the holding legs 3b and 4b and the joint zone 2 lie essentially in a common plane.
  • the second side surfaces 3e and 4e which lie one on top of the other at the end of the pivoting range (FIGS. 4 and 5), include, apart from the engagement elements 3f and 4f, a V-shaped groove 11, the groove base of which lies essentially in the same plane.
  • the opening angle of the V-shaped groove 11 defines the swivel range, starting from the extended position according to FIG. 1.
  • Figures 2 and 3 now show a position of the hinge parts and the plate-shaped body to each other, as is achieved when the plate-shaped body 5 - starting from its position in Figure 1 - is pivoted 180 degrees counterclockwise until the outer side surfaces 3d and 4d and the outer side surfaces of the holding legs 3b and 4b lie on one another.
  • the joint parts are in flat contact, and the joint zone 2 lies in the most outwardly projecting edge of the entire assembly.
  • FIGS. 4 and 5 show the position of the joint parts or the plate-shaped bodies 5 and 6 relative to one another after the plate-shaped body 6 - starting from the position shown in FIG. 1 - has been pivoted counterclockwise by 90 degrees until the mutually complementary engagement elements 3f and 4f interlock.
  • the originally existing V-shaped groove 11 is closed and the inner side surfaces 3e and 4e are in contact with one another.
  • the articulation zone 2 forms the outermost edge of the assembly. It follows from this that the bodies 5 and 6 can no longer be pivoted around, and that the planes E1 and E2 enclose a right angle.
  • the total pivoting angle of the bodies 5 and 6 relative to one another up to the end position (“assembly position”) in FIG. 5 is 270 degrees. It can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5 that the entire assembly is a very rigid and torsionally rigid structure, if the relevant bodies 5 and 6 are prevented from swinging apart by suitable measures, which will be described in more detail below.
  • Figure 6 shows an exploded view of the essential components of a piece of furniture, namely a shelf, which can also be expanded into a cupboard (with at least one door).
  • the plate-shaped bodies form two side walls 12 and 13 and a rear wall 14. It can be seen that the walls in question are milled on their vertical edges on both sides and at least have their surface coating removed. Between each side wall 12 or 13 and the rear wall 14, a connecting joint 1 according to FIGS. 1 to 5 is arranged along the vertical edges thereof, but is not yet connected to them.
  • the piece of furniture also includes a floor 15 and a ceiling 16 and at least one shelf 17 which rests on support elements 18.
  • a base 19 is also located below the base 15.
  • Profile parts 20 and 21 are also provided for the vertical front edges 12a and 13a of the side walls 12 and 13, the details of which are explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 8 and 10.
  • the side walls 12 and 13 and the rear wall 14 are already firmly connected to the connecting joints 1 and 2 and to the profile parts 20 and 21 in the manufacturing facility. Since in the majority of all cases the depth of the side walls 12 and 13 is less than half the width of the rear wall 14, the side walls 12 and 13 can be pivoted onto the rear of the rear wall 14 by means of the connecting joints 1. Such a position of the parts is shown in Figures 2 and 3; one only has to imagine this supplemented with mirror symmetry. The assembly in question can then be accommodated in a relatively flat box together with the parts 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 and assembled at the installation site.
  • Figure 7 shows the state shortly before completion of the assembly at the installation site.
  • the prefabricated assembly consisting of parts 1, 12, 13, 14, 20 and 21 is brought into such a position by pivoting the side walls 12 and 13 by 270 degrees that the side walls and rear wall form a "U" which is open towards the front.
  • the bottom 15 and the ceiling 16 have springs 22 on their lateral and rear end faces, which are only shown in part. These springs are used in complementary grooves 23 which are milled into the inner sides of the side walls 12 and 13 and the rear wall 14.
  • Figure 8 shows a horizontal section through the object of Figure 7, just above the shelf 17.
  • the spatial position of the connecting joints 1 corresponds to that according to Figures 4 and 5, in a mirror-image arrangement.
  • the inserted shelf 17 has a front edge 17a.
  • the front edge 15a of the base 15 protrudes slightly further forward.
  • the support elements 18 are only shown in dashed lines. It can be seen that the linear joint zones 2 form one of the outer edges of the piece of furniture in the assembled state.
  • FIG. 8 It can also be seen from FIG. 8 that there is a row of holes 25 parallel to the articulation zone 2 in the inner holding legs 4a, although only two holes are indicated, since the others lie perpendicularly behind the plane of the drawing. Said support elements 18 are inserted in a form-fitting manner in two holes at the same height.
  • rows of holes parallel to the joint zone 2 can of course also be arranged in at least one outer side wall of a support part 3c, 4c, but are not shown in more detail. In this way it is possible to set up several pieces of furniture according to FIG. 8 in a firmly connected row arrangement and / or to attach cladding elements to the rear wall 14.
  • the profile parts 20 and 21 on the vertical front edges of the side walls consist of two holding legs 20a and 20b which partially overlap the inside and outside of the side walls and which are connected to one another via a yoke part 20c.
  • the yoke part 20c has two surfaces at right angles to one another, of which the inner surface 20d lies between the holding legs 20a and 20b and touches the end face of the respective side wall 12 or 13.
  • the other outer surface 20e lies in one plane with the outer surface 20f.
  • the yoke part has a third surface 20g, which extends at an acute angle to the outer surface 20f and has a groove 20h for receiving a spring or a seal arranged on a door.
  • a projection 20i serves to lock the shelves 17 against unintentional pulling forward.
  • fittings can be attached to the side walls, to which in turn one or more doors can be attached.
  • the projection 20i which encloses a cavity, which is not designated in any more detail, is extended in the direction of the rear wall 14 by a rib 20k which runs parallel to the side walls 12 and 13.
  • the shelf 17 shown in FIG. 10 is shown shifted backwards and to the right for the sake of clarity. It has on its front side a plastic butt edge 17b, from which a projection 17d is delimited by a milled groove 17c. After the shelf 17 has been properly inserted, the groove 17c engages around the rib 20k, or the projection 17d engages in the groove between the rib 20k and the holding leg 20a. On this effectively prevents the side walls 12 and 13 from bending outward.
  • the vertical longitudinal edges of the side wall 12 and the rear wall 14 are inclined in the area with which they engage in the respective groove 3n or 4n between the holding legs 3a / 3b on the one hand and 4a / 4b on the other hand 14a and 12a, which serve as a spreading aid for the holding legs when they are pushed onto the longitudinal edges in the transverse direction for this purpose.
  • the holding legs are provided on their inner sides with projections 3v or 4v, which compensate for the material removal in the region of the inclined planes 14a and 12a.
  • Rear wall 3w or 4w are arranged in pairs on the bottom of the groove, not shown.
  • the subject of the invention is not limited to use on pieces of furniture with a rectangular plan; Rather, pieces of furniture with almost any polygonal cross sections can be equipped with the relevant connecting joints; it is then only necessary to select the opening angle of the V-shaped groove 11 accordingly.
  • this requires differently shaped extruded profiles, but is within the scope of the solution according to the invention.
