Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of vinyl alcohol polymers which, in addition to vinyl alcohol units, also contain 1-alkylvinyl alcohol units, as textile scattering powder for temporarily fixing textiles in textile processing.
- textiles In industrial textile processing and textile processing, for example when cutting fabrics, the textiles must be temporarily fixed on the machine parts and removed after processing. Furthermore, for reasons of rationalization, textile parts are not processed individually in industrial textile processing, but rather are cut to size, for example, in stacks, the stacked textile parts being temporarily connected to one another during the processing step by means of adhesive bonding.
- hot-melt adhesives are used for temporarily fixing textiles during processing, both for fixing textiles to machine parts and for fixing textiles with one another.
- Examples include heat seal adhesives based on polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, partially saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate or vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, and especially polyamide (Textil ist 95 , October 77, pp. 59-61).
- a number of adhesives with lower wash resistance have been developed for the temporary fixation of textiles on textile substrates or conveyor belts, as well as for the medical sector.
- Partly saponified polyvinyl acetate is recommended for the temporary sealing of textiles on textile substrates (JP-A 59/66474; CA 101: 56242b).
- a disadvantage here is the still high water resistance and the low adhesion to metallic substrates.
- a partially saponified and partially acetalized polyvinyl acetate is recommended for the same application (JP-A 49/92368; Derwent: AN 75-39883w).
- PL-B 115835, CA 98: 199798t Aqueous dispersions of modified starch and modified cellulose (CS-B 201473, CA 97: 217964e) and polyacrylamide solutions (CA80: 49035f) are also known as liquid fixatives for textiles on conveyor belts.
- Polyvinylpyrrolidones are common in the medical field (US-A 3632547), but are also used for temporary textile fixation on metallic substrates. Disadvantages here are the low metal adhesion mediated by the nitrogen valences and the high price.
- the object of the invention was to provide powdery, fusible polymers with excellent cold water solubility, which are well sealable in the temperature range required by the textile industry, bring about excellent metal adhesion and, because of their cold water solubility, can be washed out easily and quickly.
- Polyvinyl alcohols containing alkyl vinyl alcohol units have hitherto only been available as extrudable thermoplastics (JP-A 52/57256, CA 88: 75032n; JP-A 52/60842, CA87: 11870 c), in a mixture with glycerin as a hot-melt adhesive composition for bonding cardboards (JP-A 54 / 76634; CA 91: 176392x), as a cobinder for paper coating slips (DE-A 3622820), as rheological additives for aqueous dispersions (DE-A 3724331) and as a sizing agent for yarns (DE-A 3724332).
- the polyhydroxyl group-containing polymers consist of 65 to 95% by weight, preferably 75 to 85% by weight, vinyl alcohol units.
- the content of 1-alkylvinyl alcohol units is 5 to 35% by weight, preferably 15 to 25% by weight, the alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 1-Methyl-vinyl alcohol units are particularly preferred.
- the polyhydroxyl group-containing polymers can still contain up to 10% by weight, preferably up to 5% by weight, of vinyl ester units of saturated carboxylic acids having 1 to 20 carbon atoms for the internal softening of the polymer.
- vinyl ester units of saturated carboxylic acids having 1 to 20 carbon atoms for the internal softening of the polymer.
- Examples include vinyl acetate, vinyl laurate and / or versatic acid (R) vinyl ester (VeoVa (R) ), which are esters of branched carboxylic acids produced by Koch synthesis.
- the copolymers are preferably prepared in a two-stage procedure.
- vinyl acylate in particular vinyl acetate and / or vinyl propionate
- 1-alkyl vinyl acylate in particular isopropenyl acetate and / or isopropenyl propionate.
- the copolymerization can also take place in the presence of the further vinyl ester comonomers mentioned under c).
- the polymerization is carried out in a conventional manner, preferably in bulk by block polymerization or by solvent polymerization at a temperature of 50-80 ° C.
- the polymerization is initiated by adding free radical initiators, for example with peroxides.
- the reaction takes place in organic solvents such as alcohols or esters.
- organic solvents such as alcohols or esters.
- examples include ethanol, propanol, isopropanol and the methyl, ethyl or propyl esters of acetic acid.
- the molecular weight can be adjusted by adding regulators, such as acetaldehyde, or by varying the initiator concentration or the temperature. After the polymerization, excess monomer, and, if appropriate, regulator or solvent, are separated off by distillation.
- the copolymer obtained in this way is solvolysed in a manner known per se, for example by the belt or kneading process, in alkaline or acidic form, with the addition of solvolysis or hydrolysis catalyst or stoichiometric amounts of corresponding reactants, for example metal hydroxides. hydrolyzed. The product is then ground.
- the copolymers according to the invention preferably have a viscometric average molecular weight of 10,000 to 30,000.
- the textile scattering powders according to the invention can optionally also contain auxiliary substances, for example fillers.
- the scattering powder is preferably applied to the fabric in an amount of 5 to 50 g / m2, in particular 10 to 30 g / m2.
- the application can be carried out using the methods described, for example in the powder scattering process, with the usual sprinkling devices.
- the textile is fixed on the substrate at a temperature of 60 to 160 ° C. After the processing step, the textiles are removed from one another or from the processing devices. Remains of the fixing agent adhering to the machine parts or the textile parts can be removed immediately with cold or hot water.
- the textile scattering powder according to the invention is equally suitable for fixing both natural fiber and synthetic fiber products. Compared to conventional fixing agents, it is characterized by the excellent adhesion of the textiles to one another or to the metallic parts of the processing devices. At the same time, the textiles can be easily removed after processing. Above all, adherent residues of fixative can even be removed immediately with cold water.
- the order quantity is 15 g / m2.
- the powder is sintered on slightly using an infrared path. This sintering is necessary in order to fix the powder on the textile during assembly.
- the textile part equipped in this way is sealed at 150 ° C. with another textile part to be sewn with it. After the sewing process is complete, the adhesive is washed out with cold water.

Description
- a) 65 - 95 Gew.% Vinylalkoholeinheiten,
