Definitions

  • the subject of the invention is a process for manufacturing additions of wound fabric strips, the fabric strips obtained according to the process and the machine for carrying out the process.
  • the invention relates to the technical sector of the manufacture of strips of fabric in wide width wound in particular for example to produce ribbons cut from straight yarn fabrics or bias fabrics.
  • the large width fabrics are wound on spools or cores which are routed according to the applications for the confection, for the production of cut ribbons and various other well-known uses.
  • Fabrics often have defects from either weaving, dyeing or finishing. It is therefore necessary to cut the damaged tissue parts having the defects which cause loss of time since it is necessary to re-thread the machines. Thus, it is very easy to detect on the rolls of fabric which are delivered as is, the cut or cuts resulting from different cuts made. In addition, the lengths of fabric strips can vary within very large proportions depending on the number of cuts identified. These considerably hamper manufacturing.
  • the aim sought and the problem posed, according to the invention, was therefore to design a process which obviates the aforementioned drawbacks and makes it possible to obtain strips of very wide wound fabric, without defects or intermediate cuts for working strips of very large length.
  • Another object sought after according to the invention was to design a process which is particularly suitable both for bias fabrics and for straight yarn fabrics with a particular application for making cut ribbons.
  • Another aim sought after according to the invention was to design a machine capable of implementing the process under good economic conditions with a particularly finished and careful presentation of the products.
  • the method consists in unwinding a strip of fabric of great width from its spool or mandrel to then be rewound or for another operation, to be detected during the transfer operation the damaged fabric parts, to cut in a transverse plane the piece of fabric presenting the defects before rewinding or other operation, then to present on a machine in superposition the free ends respectively of the strip of unwound fabric and of the strip of rewound fabric or evacuated to another operation, then carrying out the transverse addition of the two aforementioned ends by said machine by carrying out a sewing operation while revealing two projecting lips capable of being folded down, then carrying out a new unwinding cycle of the reel for the detection of new faults.
  • an operation is carried out to cut the edges or ends of the fabric in order to limit its width and obtain a neat finished product.
  • an ironing operation is carried out on the free ends of the superimposed strips of fabric capable of being folded down.
  • the products obtained are characterized in the application of the process to the production of straight wire fabric.
  • the products obtained are characterized in the application of the process to making bias fabrics.
  • the products obtained are characterized in their application to the production of cut ribbons.
  • the machine for implementing the method for manufacturing additions of rolled up strips of fabric is remarkable in that it comprises a frame arranged between its ends with guide bars and a means allowing movement in translation along the frame of a gantry supporting the means carrying out the addition, said frame having a fixed horizontal support allowing the positioning and the superimposed support of the ends of the strips of fabric to be associated, a pressure block articulated relative to the frame and coming resting on part of the width of the fabric strips, leaving a part of the fabric projecting forward to allow the addition.
  • the method consists in unrolling the strip of fabric of great width from its spool or mandrel, to then be rewound on another mandrel or for another operation, to detect during the transfer operation the damaged fabric parts, to cut the piece of fabric in the transverse plane presenting the defects before rewinding or other operation, then to present on a machine in superposition, the free ends respectively of the strip of unwound fabric and of the strip of rewound fabric or evacuated to another operation, then performing the transverse addition of two aforementioned ends by said machine by carrying out a sewing operation while revealing two projecting lips capable of being folded down, then the addition operation being completed, proceed to a new cycle until a new fault is detected.
  • the method according to the invention is advantageous for the production of straight thread fabric and FIG. 1 is shown, the product obtained identified with the reference (1) and the transverse addition (R), according to the direction of travel, according to arrow F1.
  • the method according to the invention also finds an application for the design of bias fabrics and there is shown in Figure 2 the product obtained identified with the reference (2), the bias line (3) and the addition (R), according to the direction of travel, according to arrow F2.
  • the addition is in a plane perpendicular to the bias line.
  • the fabrics presenting the additions can be kept straight or transformed into bias fabrics by standard technical operations, then then be cut into strips of small width to constitute ribbons, or any other applications.
  • the fabric strip (T) is thus wound on a mandrel (4) placed on a support structure not shown, then unwound with intermediate tension bars (6) to then be evacuated to another station identified in its concept by (7) which can be either a rewinding of the fabric strip after removal of the defects or with a view to making bias fabrics, or formation of ribbons and the like.
  • Return rollers (5) are arranged substantially at the height of the machine allowing the addition.
  • the machine which makes it possible to carry out the additions (R) is identified as a whole by (M) and is located near the scrolling of the fabric, being arranged transversely, projecting on either side of the strips of fabric deployed and stretched. .
  • the machine referenced as a whole by (M) comprises a frame (9) of great length arranged between its ends forming a support base (10) with spacer guide bars (11) and a means such as a worm (12) for example allowing movement in translation along the frame of a gantry (13) support of the means performing the addition (R).
  • the horizontal support is of a certain width, on the one hand, to facilitate the positioning of the ends of the strips of fabric and, on the other hand, to allow them to be clamped in position by a presser block (15) articulated relative to the frame.
  • the presser block thus comprises, in a nonlimiting implementation, an arm (16) of square section to constitute or be the support of a bearing and contact face on the strips of fabric, the ends of the profile being secured to profiles (17) articulated by jack (18) or the like to the structure of the frame.
  • the elongate arm (16) is extended forward by a support plate (19) capable of coming into contact with the strips of fabric.
  • the width of this plate (19) is however narrower than the support (14) fixed so as to allow a portion of fabric from which the addition will be carried forward, as will be explained later.
  • the ends of the guide bars (11) are mounted on bearings or the like incorporated in the structure of the legs.
  • the gantry (13) is arranged so as to surround the frame and has in its lower part a plate (20) supporting a motor (21) and transmission and connection means (22) capable of cooperating with said worm (12).
  • the gantry receives in its upper part in a plane above the guide and displacement bars, a plate (23) receiving a sewing machine (24) arranged perpendicular to the direction of movement of the gantry as well as at the rear of the gantry a support (25) profiled capable of receiving an ironing means (26) of the iron type.
  • the sewing machine is fixed by its sole to the plate (23) by any suitable means.
  • the head of the sewing machine receives a cutting means (28) intended to cut and level the free ends of the strips of fabric sewn together, reducing the protruding parts by compared to the seam line and ensuring a perfect cut and selvedge.
  • the cutting device can be arranged on the sole of the sewing machine. The cutting operation can be carried out simultaneously or successively at the seam.
  • an additional support plate (29) is advantageously used directly secured to the presser foot of the sewing machine mechanism. This plate (29) has an L-shaped profile and comes into abutment or substantially against the edge of the support plate (19) associated with the presser block, coming behind the sewing area in abutment on the fabric so as to avoid formation bad folds.
  • the sewing machine is put into operation by means of transmission with the motor (21) and its operation is coupled with the movement of the gantry (13) according to arrow F.
  • a casing (30) ensures the protection of said means .
  • the support plate (25) of the iron is arranged with two cavities (25-1) (25-2) to receive the iron.
  • the first imprint (25-1) corresponds to the profile of the heating soleplate of the device and has a thermally insulating support surface; it is located behind the plate opposite the active part of the machine.
  • the support (25) has a second impression (25-2) arranged obliquely capable of coming to bear and overlap on the lips or protruding parts of the superimposed fabrics after sewing and cutting.
  • This bin is attached to the gantry so that it follows its movement.
  • means are arranged between the sewing mechanism and the ironing means and are capable of shaping the portions of fabric forming protruding lips after or simultaneously with the operation of sewing and cutting and leveling in view to fold them against the fabric faces.
  • a piece forming a horizontal guide (34) capable of being adjusted in position.
  • the guide firstly presents, on the side of the presser block and the tissue support plate, a separating finger (35) inserted between the two parts of the superimposed fabric.
  • a metal wire (36) or similar stretched is fixed on an axis (37) at the rear of the guide (34) and passes under the finger (35) so as to be inserted between the two parts of the fabric.
  • a plate (38) is fixed laterally on the guide, on the side of the ironing support with an adjustment capacity in position. This plate is arranged to receive a profiled part (39) constituting a stop for shaping the protruding parts of the fabrics.
  • This part is profiled on its upper and lower faces to force during the advancement of the gantry, to raise the said protruding parts of the tissue.
  • the wire or cable (36) is introduced into this part and its end is fixed to an anchor point (40).
  • Behind this shaping piece (39) is arranged a tunnel (41) of section U into which are inserted the raised ends of the tissues, the latter then being definitively folded down at the exit of the tunnel.
  • This tunnel is integral with the plate (38). Ironing is then carried out directly on the folded-down parts of the fabric. This phase has been illustrated (Figure 10).
  • the adding operation is carried out in the following manner. After detecting the damaged tissue areas, the operator roughly cuts, by two transverse cuts, the part of tissue to be removed. The operator positions the ends of the strips to be connected in the superimposed position on the horizontal fixed support (14), then lowers the presser block, allowing a sufficient width of the strips of fabric to protrude to carry out the adding operations. The operator puts the machine into operation which causes the gantry to advance along the frame with an appropriate time delay and the sewing machine to operate. The sewing operation is therefore carried out, while the support plate (29) allows the guiding of the sewing mechanism while preventing any appearance or formation of folds of the superimposed strips of fabric.
  • the cutting means associated with the head of the sewing machine carries out the sectioning at a slight outside overhang relative to the sewing line thus ensuring a clean and regular cutting of the edges. It then takes place the operation of folding down the ends forming protruding lips of the tissues. Then, as the gantry advances along the frame, the support plate (25) of the iron comes opposite the overhanging part folded over of the strips of fabric. The iron which is then positioned on the second imprint (25-2) therefore comes to heat and iron said edges thus contributing to obtaining a careful addition.
  • FIG. 9 illustrates the various operations mentioned above.
