Definitions

  • the invention relates to connection arrangements for coaxial cables and connection modules, in particular of the terminal block type, comprising such arrangements.
  • Such quick connection arrangements are capable of being incorporated in equipment for the connection of wires or fibers or in connection units making it possible to electrically or optically connect wires or fibers together. Examples of such an arrangement are described in particular in documents FR-A-2598039 and FR-A-2604532 of the Applicant which relate to terminal blocks intended to be mounted on standardized support profiles for cabinets and frames of equipment.
  • connection of coaxial cables is most often carried out by means of plug-in connectors, the fitting of which on a cable is meticulous and therefore relatively slow and costly.
  • Document DE-A-1242731 describes however a connection arrangement, of tubular shape, for two coaxial cables placed end to end.
  • Conductive pieces of cylindrical appearance in split parts make it possible to receive, immobilize and separately connect the central conductors and the peripheral conductors which they come to enclose under the action of elements, of tubular or annular appearance, which compress them. These elements are themselves subjected to the action of caps which are screwed at the ends of the arrangement and through each of which passes one of the cables.
  • the invention provides a connection arrangement for a coaxial cable end and a connection module for end-to-end coaxial cables, in particular a terminal block, provided with such arrangements.
  • connection arrangement composed of at least one connecting tube, electrically conductive, at least one end of which is called the connection end, is arranged to receive one end of a coaxial cable whose peripheral conductor has been stripped of its sheathing.
  • said tube comprising immobilization and electrical connection means which are constituted by tongues and by jaws, peripheral and elastic, respectively for the peripheral conductor and for the central conductor of the coaxial cable, the jaws being placed at one end of a conductive connecting piece housed axially in the connecting tube from which it is electrically isolated.
  • the means for immobilizing and connecting the peripheral conductor consist of tongues, formed at the connection end of the connection tube, and by a first ring sliding on the connection tube and making it possible to bring the the tongues, when it encloses them, or alternatively to leave them freely separated, according to the positioning which is given to this first ring along the tube, and in that the immobilization and central conductor connection means comprise a second ring sliding in the connection tube on the connection piece under the action of a push button projecting out of the connection tube through a longitudinal opening of the latter, said ring allowing the jaws located at one end of the piece to be brought together of connection, when it encloses them or alternatively to leave it freely separated, according to the positioning which is given to this second ring along the connecting piece.
  • FIG. 1 presents a perspective view of a connection module comprising two arrangements according to the invention.
  • FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section of the connection module presented in FIG. 1.
  • FIG. 3 shows a longitudinal section of one end of coaxial cable provided with an optional auxiliary endpiece for connection to an arrangement according to the invention.
  • Figure 4 shows a longitudinal section of a connection module, type terminal block, mounted on a support profile.
  • FIG. 5 shows a detail of the device for fixing a coaxial cable in one of the connection arrangements of a connection module.
  • FIG. 1 shows a connection module 1, of tubular shape, comprising, at each of its two ends, a connection arrangement for one end of coaxial cable, the constitution of a module and arrangements of connection being specified by figure 2.
  • connection module 1 is organized around a tube 2 made of conductive material or at least locally conductive material such as a metallized tube, the ends of which are shaped so as to be able to receive and hold one end of a cylindrical object and in this case a end of coaxial cable 3 or 3 ′ which, here, is previously rid of the sheath covering the peripheral conductor 4 or 4 ′, generally consisting of a cylindrical braid, of this coaxial cable.
  • the tube 1 consists of a single hollow part by the flared ends from which the coaxial cables penetrate.
  • Each flared end is provided with through longitudinal slots delimiting between them longitudinal pinching tongues 5 or 5 ′ which have a certain elasticity due to their length.
  • These tabs due to the conformation of their own free ends, form the flare intended to facilitate the introduction of a prepared end of coaxial cable, between them, in the tube.
  • An outer ring 6 or 6 ′ slides on the tube 1 at each connection arrangement, between a first position for which the tongues flare freely and allow the introduction of a prepared end of coaxial cable, and a second so-called wedging position for which this ring encloses the pinching tongues 5 and 5 ′.
  • the cross section of the opening delimited by the tongues therebetween is then reduced and makes it possible to immobilize by compression the prepared end of coaxial cable inserted between these tongues.
  • the longitudinal pinching tongues 5 or 5 ′ which are electrically conductive come to bear on the conductive cylindrical braid which constitutes the peripheral conductor 4 or 4 ′ of the coaxial cable 3 or 3 ′, thus establishing an electrical continuity between this peripheral conductor and tube 1.
  • an auxiliary cylindrical end piece 7, made of conductive material is inserted between the cylindrical braid of the peripheral conductor, such 4, of each end of coaxial cable to be connected and the insulation, such 8, separating this peripheral conductor from the central conductor 9 of the cable, in the area where the cylindrical braid of the peripheral conductor is laid bare.
  • auxiliary means Maintaining a ring 6 or 6 ′ in the wedging position on the tube 1 is here provided by means of auxiliary means.
  • This immobilization can be achieved for example by cooperation of complementary reliefs respectively distributed on the tube 1 and on the ring considered, an external annular bulge, profiled, not shown, of the tube serving for example as a stop back to the ring after arrival of the latter in its wedging position, according to a conventional arrangement.
  • This immobilization can also be carried out so as to take into account the tolerances allowed on the elements involved, the size variations over time, in particular with the temperature and any pulls on the cables and / or vibrations transmitted to the tube 1 and / or to cables, the auxiliary means provided for this purpose will be described later in conjunction with FIG. 5.
  • connection of the central conductor 9 or 9 ′ of a coaxial cable to a connection arrangement is effected by means of a piece 10 or 10 ′ which and immobilized in a determined position inside the tube 1 by l 'through a positioning piece 11 or 11 ′.
  • the conductive part 10 or 10 ′ comprises a head 12 or 12 ′ allowing its connection to a central conductor 9 or 9 ′ of coaxial cable.
  • this central conductor must first be stripped at the end, at its connection end in order to be able to cooperate with a conductive part.
  • connection head 12 or 12 ′ of a conductive part is here designed so as to receive a stripped end of the conductor central in a central recess which is positioned axially in the tube by the positioning piece 11 or 11 ′ which carries the conductive piece where this recess is located.
  • the central recess is bordered by jaws of a clamping cone comprising for example a wide base in which opens the chamfered opening of the recess which allows the introduction of a stripped central conductor.
  • the narrow base of the cone ends with a rod 13 or 13 ′ here cylindrical coming to rest in the positioning part 11 or 11 ′ of the conductive part to which the cone and obviously central considered.

  • each internal ring 14 or 14 ′ comprises axially and internally a conical bearing of shape complementary to that of the clamping cone on which it is capable of being positioned and here an additional bearing allowing its sliding on the rod 13 carrying the cone of tightening considered.
  • Each inner ring also has an outer cylindrical surface by which it rests and guides itself inside the tube 1 when it slides, alternately leading it from a rest position where the jaws, which are for example three in number , are separated and allow a central conductor 9 or 9 ′ to penetrate into the central recess which they border, at a clamping position for which the conical bearing surface of the inner ring passes against the clamping cone, the jaws of which tend to approach from each other by reducing the volume of the central recess and compressing laterally the end of the central conductor 9 or 9 'positioned therebetween in this central recess.
  • An opening 15 or 15 ′ is formed in the tube 1 at each internal ring 14 to allow sliding of this ring in the tube 1, from the outside of this tube.
  • the means used is represented by a pusher 16 or 16 ′ coming from outside the tube 9, into a suitable cavity in the internal ring 14 or 14 ′, at the opening 15 or 15 ′.
  • the dimensions of the cavity are chosen to allow a longitudinal displacement of an internal ring 14, between its rest and tightening positions, by means of its pusher 16 or 16 ′, when the latter is subjected to a lateral thrust parallel to the axis of tube 1 by a user.
  • the conductive part 10 or 10 ′ is subject to the positioning part 11 or 11 ′, which is for example a cylindrical part molded at the level of at least one annular shoulder 17 or 17 ′, which is provided with the rod 13 or 13 ′ of this conductive part.

  • the spring 32 therefore tends to push the outer ring outwards relative to the tube 2a and its pressure tends to compress the pinching tongues towards the axis of the tube 2b which comprises them, under the action of the frustoconical portion of the external ring 6a which rests on them and which translates into compression the thrust of the spring.
  • the action of the spring 32 is capable of being counteracted by a manual action on the pusher 16a which comprises a pushing piece 33 formed at its base parallel to the lug 30, this pushing piece is shaped to push the outer ring 6a into compressing the spring, when the pusher 16a is pressed laterally towards the middle part of the tube 2a parallel to the axis of this tube.
  • the elasticity of the longitudinal pinching tongues 5a tends to spread them apart and to enlarge the entry for insertion of the coaxial cable into the complementary tube 2b, when the outer ring 6a is moved by the pushing piece in the direction of introduction of the coaxial cable, towards the middle part of the tube 2a.
  • the pusher 16a is here slidably mounted in a housing 34 containing at least the connection arrangement considered, it projects out of this housing through a longitudinal opening 35 so that it can be moved in translation from a location for which it is possible to introduce a prepared end of coaxial cable to be connected into the tubes 2a and 2b, in the position of connection, at a location for which the jaws of the connection head 12a and the clamping tongues 5a, are tightened and wedge the conductors of a coaxial cable.

  • the latter is immobilized in the housing in the usual way for example by cooperation of its fixed parts including the tube 2a with complementary reliefs formed inside the housing which is for example of molded insulating material.
  • the pusher 16a is returned to the coaxial cable jamming position by means of a helical compression spring 37 which here rests on the one hand on a fixed wall 38 of a housing provided for it in the housing 34 and d on the other hand on the pushing piece 33 so as to move the latter away from the ring 6a in the absence of manual opening pushing exerted on the pusher 16a towards the middle part of the connecting tube 2a parallel to the axis of this tube.
  • the release of the pusher 16a causes it to move towards the end of the housing where it is located, under the action of the resort 37 acting on the thrust piece 33.
  • the outer ring 6a pushed back by its helical spring 32, follows the movement of the pusher 16a and traps the peripheral conductor 4 between the pinch tabs 5a which simultaneously connect this peripheral conductor to the tubes 2a, 2b.
