Definitions
- the present invention relates to the stirring of a liquid, in particular contained in a basin, by a submersible mixer with a propeller. It applies in particular in the case of liquids loaded with solid particles, the stirring being able to have either the dispersion of the particles or the homogenization of the medium, or the placing and keeping in suspension of the particles in the liquid, or creation and maintenance of a hydraulic current.
- the present invention relates more specifically to an automated method of mixing a liquid medium and a submersible propeller mixer, the operation of which is made automatic in order to optimize the function corresponding to its use.
- Devices known as submersible mixers or agitators are well known. They consist of a propeller and a sealed motor, capable of operating in the submerged position, driving the propeller in rotation.
- the motor is fixed on a support, equipped with a manual guide bar and equipped with a lifting system, so that you can position the propeller exactly in the tank, both in depth and in orientation.
- the motor is accompanied by a gearbox, also waterproof.
- Document DE.U.8.605.277 also discloses a submersible propeller mixer, which is mounted on a base, vertically movable and integral with a rotating vertical shaft; the speed of rotation of the propeller, that of the shaft and the vertical displacement are a function of the viscosity of the liquid to be mixed.
- basic designates any container of a liquid medium, whatever its shape and dimensions, and whether said container is closed (basin proper) or open (channel or channel).
- Submersible mixers are used in particular in urban and industrial water treatment basins, notably aeration basins, oxidation channels.
- the shape of the propeller and its speed of rotation are determined according to the desired goal: dispersion of the particles, suspension or homogenization.
- the rotation of the propeller creates a primary hydraulic flow, which causes turbulence in the liquid medium, the extent and location of which depend on a large number of parameters: shape, speed of rotation, positioning of the propeller, shape and dimensions of the basin, volume, density, and viscosity of the liquid medium, etc.
- the liquid is not set in motion identically throughout the volume of the liquid medium , which can create in certain areas and after a certain operating time of the mixer, accumulations of particles and deposits, or even in some cases dead water areas.
- the displacement of the propeller during the fourth step is carried out in the opposite direction to that of the second step.
- the displacement of the propeller during the second and fourth stages is continuous. According to a second version, it is sequential.
- the submersible propeller mixer being fixed along a wall of the basin, the first direction of attack makes a given angle relative to the perpendicular to the wall in line with the propeller and the second direction of attack makes a second given angle, adjacent to the first with respect to the above perpendicular.
- the direction of attack of the propeller is the direction given by its axis of rotation when it faces the liquid medium.
- the displacement of the propeller, during its passage from one orientation to another, must be rapid compared to the predetermined time interval, during which the orientation of the propeller remains the same.
- the movement of the propeller takes a time which can be of the order of a few minutes or less than a minute, while the predetermined time interval can be measured in day or week.
- displacement of the propeller is said to be continuous when it is carried out without stopping from one direction of attack to the other.
- the displacement is said to be sequential when it takes place with one or more stops of the propeller according to one or more intermediate orientations between the two directions of attack.
- the predetermined time interval corresponds substantially to the time of inversion of the recirculation rollers in the basin.
- This inversion time is the time that elapses, from a change in orientation of the propeller, for the liquid medium to reach a stable state. It has been found that the overall circulation structure of the liquid which is stable at a given time, is disturbed by the change in orientation of the propeller and evolves to another stable state.
- the mixer control means are programmed to effect the change of orientation of the propeller when a stable state is substantially reached.
- the propeller of this mixer is movable in rotation about a vertical axis, thanks to these so-called orientation means.
- it comprises means for controlling the orientation means and a programmed clock, and said control means are actuated by said clock so as to trigger, at predetermined time intervals, the movement of the propeller by a first direction of attack to a second direction of attack, in a continuous or sequential mode.
- the orientation means consist for example of a motorized system rotating the support of the engine and the propeller between two extreme positions corresponding to the two given directions of the propeller.
- the orientation means comprise means for adjusting the angle made by each direction of attack with the perpendicular to the wall in line with the propeller, between 8 ° and 60 °.
- the active part of the mixer consists of the propeller 1, the axis 2 of which is fixed to the rotating shaft of the motor 3.
- the motor 3 is integral with the support 4, fixed in known manner and not shown in the pole 5.
- the post 5 is placed vertically in the basin, along a wall 6. Its lower end is terminated by a pivot 7, allowing the post 5 to turn on itself; it is supported on a pivot support 8 fixed in the bottom of the basin to the right of the post 5.
- the upper end of the post is threaded into the ring 9 of a bracket 10 rigidly fixed in the ground 11, along the wall 6 .
- the pivoting of the post 5 on itself is obtained by a gear system of the wheel and worm type.
- the wheel 12 is mounted axially around the post 5 in its upper part, approximately at ground level 11.
- the worm 13, the thread of which cooperates with the teeth of the wheel 12, is at the end of the rotating axis of the motor 14 with two directions of rotation.
- the motor 14 is connected to the equipment 15 comprising a computer, a contactor and a clock.
- the principle of operation of the automated mixer is as follows.
- the support 4 is given the desired orientation, that is to say the direction of attack taken by the propeller, defined by the angle ⁇ made by the axis of rotation 16 of the propeller relative to the perpendicular to the wall 6 of the basin at the right of the propeller.
- the clock is set so as to activate the contactor as soon as a predetermined period of time has elapsed.
- the computer is adjusted so as to stop the engine 14 after a determined number of rotations of its shaft.
- the motor 14 has a double direction of rotation and is mounted so that the direction of rotation is reversed at each limit switch.
- the propeller 1 being in permanent rotation, once the predetermined time has elapsed, the clock actuates the contactor which controls the starting of the motor 14.
- the motor shaft rotates the worm 13, which rotates the toothed wheel 12 and therefore the pivot on itself of the post 5.
- the number of rotations of the motor shaft 14, preselected in the computer is determined so that the pivoting of the post 5 corresponds to an angular rotation of 2 ⁇ . So when the motor 14 stops, the orientation of the propeller is changed by 2 ⁇ , and the new direction of the propeller again makes an angle ⁇ , relative to the perpendicular to the wall 6, but in this case the propeller is directed towards the other edge of the basin.
- FIG. 2 illustrates the overall structure for the circulation of the liquid existing in the basin, due to the agitation created by the propeller, in steady state, that is to say when this structure is in a stable state.
- the axis of the propeller 16 corresponding to the direction of attack of the propeller, delimits in the basin two zones A and B where the overall structure of the flow corresponds to a movement of the medium in opposite directions. Due to the orientation of this axis 16 of the angle ⁇ , the area B is larger in volume than the area A.
- Zones A and B will deform and change in volume.
- FIG. 3 shows the non-stationary state of the overall structure for circulation of the liquid, after the change of orientation.
- zone A is gaining importance to the detriment of zone B and that zone C moves along the wall, until reaching its final position, in extension of the new direction of attack 16 of the propeller when the state is stationary (FIG. 4 ).
- the industrial water treatment basin had the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped of length 50 m, width 30 m and was filled up to a height of 4 m.
- the water was charged with particles at a rate of 10 to 20 g / l.
- the three-blade, thin-profile propeller had a total diameter of 0.5 m. Its rotation speed was 259 rpm.
- the angle ⁇ was 15 °.
- the inversion time corresponding to the time interval necessary for the liquid medium to reach its stationary state was of the order of one day.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has just been described by way of example, but covers all its variants. It is in particular for those skilled in the art to determine the inversion time as a function of the various operating parameters of its installation. Furthermore, the orientation of the propeller can, without departing from the invention, be modified by tilting the support 4 relative to the horizontal. In general, this inclination is fixed once and for all for an installation operating under determined conditions.
- the basin can have other shapes, in particular it can be circular, in which case the post on which the propeller support is fixed will, for example, be placed in line with the center of symmetry of the basin.
- the displacement of the propeller which has been described in the example above is continuous; however, it can also be sequential, in which case the displacement of the angle 2 ⁇ will take place in several stages with the propeller orientation means being stopped for a period of time given at each stage.
- the motorized system rotating the motor support can combine other means than those described in the above example: presence of a reduction gear, use of a planetary drive, fixed gear cooperating with a reduction gear secured to the post supporting the propeller.

Abstract
