Definitions
- the electrodes of arc furnaces for steelmaking are held by support arms, which at the end have an electrode clamp and are in turn held on support columns, which allow height adjustment. Cooling water guiding devices are provided for cooling the electrode clamp and the arm itself.
- the support arms usually used in practice have separate high-current lines provided on the support arms. Since these involve considerable manufacturing and maintenance outlay, it has also been proposed to produce the entire support arm from copper and to design it to be live (US Pat. No. 2,494,775).
- the support arm is hollow and closed at the front end by a flange plate, which is used for flange connection to the electrode clamp. Part of the power supply to the tensioning device is also routed through the flange connection.
- the coolant is supplied to the electrode clamp from the coolant cavity provided within the support arm via external pipes past the flange connection. It has not become known that such an electrode support arm is would have proven in practice; at least for larger furnaces, the unfavorable relationship between strength and weight of copper as a support arm material seems quite unfavorable.
- EP-A-0184140 This defect is remedied by another known construction (EP-A-0184140), in which the support arm made of steel is clad on the outside with copper or aluminum. This is very time-consuming. At the end, the arm, including its coolant cavity, is delimited by a flange plate which is used to connect to a contact jaw of the electrode clamp. In practice, however, an absolutely uniform, large-area transition contact cannot be guaranteed, so that local overheating can occur, which can lead to destruction, particularly in the case of material sensitive to oxidation.
- the support arm which is made of aluminum and which is current-carrying in its entirety, is therefore not connected to the electrode clamp via a flange connection, but rather the end plate which delimits the support arm at the end is welded to the profile parts forming the electrode clamp.
- This avoids the problematic contact current transition in the area of a flange connection.
- the invention has for its object to provide an electrode support arm that is less expensive than a steel arm clad with copper or aluminum and allows a releasable, current-carrying flange connection with the arm part forming the electrode clamp.
- the design of the arm made of light metal makes it possible to dispense with a steel core despite sufficient stability.
- the problems that arise in the current-carrying flange area due to the tendency of the light metal to oxidize, in particular at a higher temperature and its susceptibility to burning if there is insufficient contact, are avoided according to the invention in that the flange plates are in the immediate vicinity of the coolant cavities and due to the intensive heat exchange with the flowing cooling medium in the Through openings are cooled particularly effectively. This does not eliminate local power shortcomings, but its consequences are reduced because local overheating does not occur to a dangerous degree. In addition, external connecting pipes are thereby avoided.
- the flange connection is expediently formed not only on the side of the rear arm part but also on the side of the front arm part by a flange plate which is made of light metal and is involved in the formation of the coolant cavity of the corresponding part of the front arm part.
- Actuators must be provided for the electrode clamp, which generally consist of a tie rod, a spring assembly and a hydraulic relief device. According to the invention, these are accommodated between the flange connection and the electrode clamp in a further arm section belonging to the front arm part. This has the advantage that the actuators can also be replaced by changing the front arm part.
- through openings can be provided in the flange connection in accordance with the cooling requirements of the flange connection.
- the cooling effect is further increased by the fact that through openings are also provided in the flange connection for the cooling water supply of the clamping bracket, which can also consist of pipes or hose lines that are partly laid outside the arm or, according to an expedient alternative embodiment of the invention, through a clamping bracket pull rod , which belongs to the actuators of the electrode clamp.
- the support arm 4 comprises a rear arm part 10 and a front arm part 6, which consists of a fixed arm section 7 and an electrode clamp 8.
- the front arm part 6 with the electrode clamp can be separated from the arm part 10 lying behind it by means of the flange connection 9.
- the support arm 4, at least its rear part 10 and preferably also the arm section 7 of the front arm part 6, is made of aluminum and as such is designed to carry current.
- the rear arm part 10 is designed as an internally ribbed hollow body which is filled with cooling water and forms two cooling water paths for the purpose of circulation. It ends at the front in a flange plate 11, with which the corresponding flange plate 12 of the front arm part 6 is screwed to form the flange connection 9.
- the contact surface of these flange plates is designed as a current transfer surface.
- the flange plates 11, 12 are part of the rear or front arm part 10, 6 and therefore, like this, consist of aluminum or aluminum alloy.
- the arm-fixed part of the front arm part 6 consists of the elongated arm section 7 or 13 which continues the rear arm part 10 and a forked part 14 which belongs to the electrode clamp and has contact jaws 15 which hold the electrode 3 and form a low-resistance current transfer concern about this.
- the clamp 38 of the electrode clamp is ring-shaped closed with a pressure jaw 16 and is pulled to generate the holding voltage by a pull rod 17 under the action of a spring plate assembly 18 to the rear.
- the spring assembly can be compressed and the clamping bracket can be pushed forward for the electrode change.
- the arm section 7, the arm-fixed, bifurcated part 14 and the clamping bracket 38 of the electrode clamp 8 are hollow in a known manner for receiving cooling water.
- the tensioning bracket 38 can be produced in a conventional manner, for example from alloy steel.
- the cooling water cavities 20 of the arm section 7 of the front arm part 6 communicate with the cooling water cavities 29 of the rear arm part 10 via cooling water passage openings, one of which is illustrated at 21 in FIG. 2, so that there is a closed path for the cooling water circulation through these parts .
- the arrangement of the cooling water passage openings 21 in the flange plates 11, 12 simplifies the replacement of the electrode clamping device and cools the flange plates.
- the hydraulic lines 22 belonging to the piston-cylinder device 19 run outside the flange connection.
- a transition chamber 25 can be provided, as indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG. 2 be divided into a supply and discharge part and connected in a manner not shown to cooling water supply and discharge pipes. The walls of the chamber 25 are sealed to the surface of the pull rod 17.
- the pull rod 17 contains two longitudinal channels, which open as a supply or discharge opening in the chamber 25 and which are connected at the front end of the pull rod 17 to the cooling water cavities 26 of the clamping bracket 38, so that the one indicated by dash-dotted arrows in Fig. 2 Flow course can result.
- the contact jaws 15 are connected in one piece to the forked, arm-fixed part 14 of the electrode clamp, i.e. are firmly welded to it or are parts of the electrode-side walls of the forks 14. Since these walls are well cooled on the outer surface thanks to recessed cooling water channels and thanks to the high thermal conductivity of aluminum, this can result in a significant simplification compared to conventional, detachable contact jaws. But even if in the context of the invention the contact jaws are designed as separate, detachable parts, a simplification occurs in that insulation between them and the fork parts 14 is not necessary.

Description
- Fig. 1
- eine Seitenansicht der Anlage,
- Fig. 2
