Abstract

The chamber of the furnace is designed with a longitudinally continuous roll bed. The furnace (10) has a hot upper furnace chamber (11), a lower furnace chamber (12) and in between a hearth floor (13) with openings (14). The roll bed is mounted essentially in the lower furnace chamber (12) below the hearth floor (13) and projects only with small sections of its furnace rolls (17) through the openings (14) of the hearth floor (13) above the level (N) of the latter. At least the roll sections, projecting into the hot zone, having the running surface (19), on which the materials to be heated (20) are transported, consist of particularly heat-resistant material which, assembled from segments to form a ring (18), surrounds the furnace rolls (17) on the circumferential surface. Cleaning devices (23, 24, 25) free the running surfaces (19) of the furnace rolls (17) of disturbing scale caking. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a roller hearth furnace for heating slabs, blocks, billets, sheets or similar heating material, the furnace space of which is formed with a longitudinally continuous roller table, the furnace having an upper furnace space serving as a heating space and a lower furnace space, between which a hearth floor with recesses is arranged for the oven rollers of the roller table, which are stored below the stove floor in the room below the upper oven room.

In the steel industry, efforts are being made to make the operation of the continuous casting plants more economical and to coordinate them with the operation of the roller mills. This measure is intended to ensure that the material to be heated is either directly rolled or otherwise runs as warmly as possible into the heating furnace downstream of the continuous casting installation. As a result, the energy costs for heating ready for rolling can be reduced considerably. Modern heating furnaces must therefore process and cooperate on this cooperative heating and timed operation be constructively tailored. For this, it is necessary to maintain a very high room temperature of at least 1000 to 1300 ° C in the heating zone or the heating room.

It is known to use roller hearth furnaces for a continuous flow of the heating material. However, due to the high temperatures in the furnace chamber, which must be heated up to about 1300 ° C, the furnace rollers are heated very strongly. In order to achieve the required temperature stability of the oven rolls, this system requires an extensive water cooling device that is burdened with high water and energy consumption. A great deal of heat is removed from the furnace space via the cooling water circulation. Also on the running surfaces of the oven rolls there are raised stickings of scale, which are transferred to the surface of the hot material and adhere to it indiscriminately into the rolling mill, where they are rolled into the surface of the hot material as so-called pimples and reduce the quality.

The invention has for its object to provide a roller hearth furnace with which the energy losses and costs are reduced and thus the furnace operation is made more economical.

The object is achieved in that the oven rollers are mounted so that they can be raised and lowered in such a way that in their raised working position they each have only a small roller section having the upper section of their circular cylindrical running surface through one of the recesses up to above the hearth level in the upper oven chamber protrude.

It is hereby achieved that the roller table which transports the pieces of heat through the furnace space is basically in a cool area outside the hot furnace space with all essential parts which are responsible for its temperature stability. Only the oven rollers only protrude with their treads into this hot oven chamber, and with such a small roller section that they can absorb little heat, which in turn is largely dissipated outside, ie in the lower oven chamber. Consequently, without special cooling measures and without special energy costs, this leads to a sufficient temperature stability of the roller table and thus to a more economical furnace operation than in the known roller hearth furnaces with the usual water cooling system. By having the furnace rollers lowered from this position, it is achieved that when the furnace is at a standstill, e.g. in the event of a malfunction in the downstream rolling mill, the furnace rollers can be completely lowered from the hot furnace space and the heating material can be placed on the stove floor. This avoids that the running surfaces of the oven rollers are exposed to excessive heat when the system is at a standstill.

In order to largely avoid the formation of the so-called pimples due to accumulated adherence of flaked-off scale particles, according to a development of the invention, the oven rollers below the hearth floor are each assigned a cleaning device attacking their running surfaces. For this purpose, for example, a knife-like steel band can be resiliently fastened to the roller bearings in each case such that the running surface is below the hearth floor the oven roll constantly sweeps past the knife edge of the steel belt. This steel strip, in the manner of a doctor blade, wipes off any caking from the running surface, after which a stationary or rotating brush finally cleans the running surface and / or preferably also applies a powder layer largely avoiding the caking, for example made of quartz powder, graphite or aluminum oxide powder.

The furnace rollers are expediently provided on their peripheral surfaces with an annular casing made of heat-resistant material and containing the running surface. The furnace rollers are preferably coated with a heat-resistant steel or with a refractory ceramic made of, for example, silicon carbide (SiC) or zirconium oxide (ZrO₂). It can often be expedient to produce the oven rolls entirely from a corresponding refractory ceramic.

Furthermore, it is proposed as advantageous that the furnace rollers or at least their casing having the running surfaces are composed of segments. These segments are easy to replace if the treads or their heat-loaded roller sections are damaged. The thermal conduction to the bearing parts and further devices of the roller table can also be further reduced by interposing insulating material between the casing or its segments and the furnace roller base parts.

An embodiment of the invention is described below and illustrated with the drawings. The drawings show:
Figure 1
a longitudinal section through a roller hearth furnace, and
Figure 2
a cross section of the furnace of Figure 1, on an enlarged scale.

In the drawings, a roller hearth furnace 10, which is particularly suitable for heating thin slabs, is shown with conventional burner heating and a longitudinal continuous roller table. This furnace 10 has an upper furnace chamber 11 and a lower furnace chamber 12, between which a hearth 13 with recesses 14 are arranged in two rows running parallel to one another. The burners 15 are arranged in the upper furnace chamber 11 on both sides in the side walls 16. The upper furnace space 11 sits directly on a foundation F, in the space of which the lower furnace space 12 extends and which is sealed against the foundation space F by water cups 26.

The oven rollers 17 of the roller table are stored below the hearth floor 13 in the unheated sub-oven space 12. These rollers 17 are wheel-shaped made of metal with a circular cylindrical circumferential surface and thereon with an annular casing 18 made of heat-resistant material. The circular cylindrical outer surface of this casing 18 forms the running surface 19 for the transport of the heating material 20. This covering 18 is a ring composed of segments, on the running surface 19 of which, in the exemplary embodiment shown, thin slabs are transported through the furnace space as heating material 20. The segments of the annular casing 18 can be made of heat-resistant steel or of a non-metallic material be made of refractory ceramic and are attached to the wheel-shaped metal rollers 17 with the interposition of a thin refractory ceramic fiber mat. As can be seen from the drawings, in the transport position the oven rollers 17 only protrude into the hot upper oven space 11 with a small portion of their annular casing 18 and their running surface 19. The metallic roller and bearing parts remain below the hearth level N within the lower oven space 12 and with its roll axes 21 in the foundation room F.

The oven rollers 17 can be lowered from this upper transport position. For this purpose, the axes 21 are mounted in the bearing heads of a hoist 22 known per se and are vertically movable together. In this way, in the event of a malfunction in the operational sequence, the furnace rollers 17 can be lowered from the position shown into a lower position, in which the rollers 17 are located completely below the hearth level N. Here, the heating material 20 is placed on the hearth 13 until it is put back into operation.

Below the hearth base 13, the furnace rollers 17 are also assigned cleaning devices 23 in order to free the running surfaces 19 of raised scale deposits. Each of the cleaning devices 23 contains a frame with a resiliently mounted knife-like steel band 24, on which the running surface 19 of the oven rollers 17 constantly passes. In the circumferential direction, a brush 25 is attached behind it, along which the tread 19 slides. With the help of this brush 25, the tread 19 is finally cleaned and provided with a thin layer of a quartz powder or another suitable powder with which the scale deposits can largely be avoided.
