Definitions
- the present invention relates to an industrial binding installation and a method of implementation and the binding thus produced.
- a jacket is expensive because of the price of its manufacture and its installation on the structure once connected, installation which must be done manually at the end of the production line.
- Bindings of the "integra” type cannot receive a jacket because it would only hold with difficulty on the flexible cover. Furthermore, this would be contrary to the spirit of "integra” binding which must be less expensive than traditional industrial bindings.
- the removal of the jacket also removes a very popular advantage for readers because the flap or flaps of the jacket are frequently used as a bookmark, since in most works with industrial binding, always for reasons of manufacturing cost, there is no there is no bookmark.
- the object of the present invention is to create a binding process and installation making it possible to produce bindings of the "integra" type in an industrial manner while giving these bindings certain important advantages of the more traditional jacketed bindings.
- the invention relates to a binding of the above type, characterized in that it comprises at least one flap forming a body with the blank constituting the cover and at least one grooved line forming a folding and articulation line between the flap and the corresponding panel.
- the flap is integral with the cover, it is possible to provide only one flap, unlike the jacket which must be held by two flaps.
- the cover has two flaps which allows, for example in the case of a guide or a work used frequently for only part of the pages, to isolate the few pages used to access them more easily.
- the flap (s) can receive inscriptions such as the legend of the signs used (for example in the case of a guide) or terminology specific to the work, etc.
- the binding comprises several fold lines between the flap and the cover. This facilitates the holding of the flap between the pages of the book since there is not a single hinge but at least two hinges between the flap and the cover, hinges whose spacing corresponds, to a certain extent, to the thickness of the packet of pages retained between the cover and the flap.
- the flap has oblique edges, so that the free side of the flap is shorter than the fold line of the flap.
- This form of flap is particularly interesting both in terms of manufacture and use since the flap is not likely to protrude from the edge of the cover even if the fold line is not perfectly perpendicular at the edge of the cover or if the flap is deformed by use.
- the cover consists of a flexible blank on which an exterior covering material is bonded.
- the invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a binding such as that described above.
- the sheets are assembled to make the body of the work, the covering is produced by cutting and creasing a blank of suitable material with, optionally, laminating a coating on the blank constituting the support material , we glue the body of the work placed astride a vertical support plate, we put on the cover, and we turn the work with the cover to pass it through the press, back down.
- the method is characterized in that a cover is produced with at least one flap secured to the cover and, at least at the connection, a grooved line, the body of the work is supported from the front, on both sides of the glue support plate, the rear side of the product is pressed against a tilting plate, an air jet is blown against the front panel of the cover to hold the corresponding flap, the product is tilted to lay it flat while continuing to blow against the front panel during at least part of the tilting movement.
- This manufacturing process makes it possible to industrially produce a book binding with integral cover provided with flaps according to the invention, without risking that these flaps are damaged during manufacture, or by the weight of the work in progress. binding, either by traditional organs of the production chain.
- the invention also relates to an installation for implementing the above method, this installation comprises a gluing station receiving the structures and the covers, this station being equipped with a conveyor with vertical plates, each plate receiving a body of work placed astride the plate so that the back of the book body faces up, the pages of the book body hanging on either side of the plate; a sizing member for coating the back with glue; a cover placement member on the glued back; a tilting station for flattening each work body provided with its cover at the outlet of the gluing station, this tilting station comprising a plate tilting between a vertical position and a folded position, this plate receiving the work at the outlet glue, in vertical position, to support it during the extraction of the support plate and to tilt it in horizontal position.
- this installation is characterized in that it comprises a lower support device formed by at least one support member coming from one side (or on either side) of the path for passage of the plates support, this device being integral in movement with the folding plate and it supports the structure by the front edge, an air jet nozzle directed towards the front panel of the structure in the tilting station blowing a jet air against the front panel of the structure during, at least, part of the tilting movement between the vertical position and the lying position to support the cover, preventing the corresponding flap from coming to fold forward.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an industrial binding installation and a method of implementation and the binding thus produced.
Industrial binding techniques have been known for many years. These techniques have, for certain types of binding, evolved from a hardcover binding to a softcover binding, in which the back and the front and rear panels of the cover are made in a single piece articulated along the back hinges.
The imperatives to which industrial binding must submit are opposing imperatives of quality and cost.
The development of the so-called "integra" binding has been very successful, as the works thus bound are pleasant to hold, since they are flexible. Such bindings are suitable both for books of the novel, study, etc. type handled infrequently and for works in common use handled frequently, such as guides, lexicons, technical works, etc. .
In these bindings of the "integra" type, which takes the place of a jacket in hardcover binders, is integrated into the cover for both technical reasons and for cost reasons.
Indeed, a jacket is expensive because of the price of its manufacture and its installation on the structure once connected, installation which must be done manually at the end of the production line.
Bindings of the "integra" type cannot receive a jacket because it would only hold with difficulty on the flexible cover. Furthermore, this would be contrary to the spirit of "integra" binding which must be less expensive than traditional industrial bindings.
However, the removal of the jacket also removes a very popular advantage for readers because the flap or flaps of the jacket are frequently used as a bookmark, since in most works with industrial binding, always for reasons of manufacturing cost, there is no there is no bookmark.
The object of the present invention is to create a binding process and installation making it possible to produce bindings of the "integra" type in an industrial manner while giving these bindings certain important advantages of the more traditional jacketed bindings.
To this end, the invention relates to a binding of the above type, characterized in that it comprises at least one flap forming a body with the blank constituting the cover and at least one grooved line forming a folding and articulation line between the flap and the corresponding panel.
This binding is particularly easy to make since the flap or flaps are integral with the blank, constituting the cover.
As the flap is integral with the cover, it is possible to provide only one flap, unlike the jacket which must be held by two flaps.
However, for reasons of use, it is preferable that the cover has two flaps which allows, for example in the case of a guide or a work used frequently for only part of the pages, to isolate the few pages used to access them more easily.
In addition, the flap (s) can receive inscriptions such as the legend of the signs used (for example in the case of a guide) or terminology specific to the work, etc.
Particularly advantageously, in the case of a work of a certain thickness, the binding comprises several fold lines between the flap and the cover. This facilitates the holding of the flap between the pages of the book since there is not a single hinge but at least two hinges between the flap and the cover, hinges whose spacing corresponds, to a certain extent, to the thickness of the packet of pages retained between the cover and the flap.
According to another characteristic, the flap has oblique edges, so that the free side of the flap is shorter than the fold line of the flap.
This form of flap is particularly interesting both in terms of manufacture and use since the flap is not likely to protrude from the edge of the cover even if the fold line is not perfectly perpendicular at the edge of the cover or if the flap is deformed by use.
According to another characteristic, the cover consists of a flexible blank on which an exterior covering material is bonded.
The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a binding such as that described above. above, in this process the sheets are assembled to make the body of the work, the covering is produced by cutting and creasing a blank of suitable material with, optionally, laminating a coating on the blank constituting the support material , we glue the body of the work placed astride a vertical support plate, we put on the cover, and we turn the work with the cover to pass it through the press, back down.
According to the invention, the method is characterized in that a cover is produced with at least one flap secured to the cover and, at least at the connection, a grooved line, the body of the work is supported from the front, on both sides of the glue support plate, the rear side of the product is pressed against a tilting plate, an air jet is blown against the front panel of the cover to hold the corresponding flap, the product is tilted to lay it flat while continuing to blow against the front panel during at least part of the tilting movement.
This manufacturing process makes it possible to industrially produce a book binding with integral cover provided with flaps according to the invention, without risking that these flaps are damaged during manufacture, or by the weight of the work in progress. binding, either by traditional organs of the production chain.
The invention also relates to an installation for implementing the above method, this installation comprises a gluing station receiving the structures and the covers, this station being equipped with a conveyor with vertical plates, each plate receiving a body of work placed astride the plate so that the back of the book body faces up, the pages of the book body hanging on either side of the plate; a sizing member for coating the back with glue; a cover placement member on the glued back; a tilting station for flattening each work body provided with its cover at the outlet of the gluing station, this tilting station comprising a plate tilting between a vertical position and a folded position, this plate receiving the work at the outlet glue, in vertical position, to support it during the extraction of the support plate and to tilt it in horizontal position.
According to the invention, this installation is characterized in that it comprises a lower support device formed by at least one support member coming from one side (or on either side) of the path for passage of the plates support, this device being integral in movement with the folding plate and it supports the structure by the front edge, an air jet nozzle directed towards the front panel of the structure in the tilting station blowing a jet air against the front panel of the structure during, at least, part of the tilting movement between the vertical position and the lying position to support the cover, preventing the corresponding flap from coming to fold forward.
In the installation according to the invention, the body of the structure is supported by the gluing plate which supports it as far as the folding station, without at any time during the course of the structure through the installation , the flaps which are not yet folded along the grooved lines may leave the plane of the cover part to which these flaps are connected.
The installation also allows the support plate to come out of the structure once the gluing has been carried out, without the structure resting on the flaps.
Depending on whether the work has a back and a straight or curved front edge, the support member (s) will be of corresponding shape so that at no time is the work supported on a form different from its own.

According to Figure 1, the binding of the invention consists of a cover comprising a
The
The above cover is made from a single blank of more or less flexible material such as cardboard. Le procédé et l'installation de reliure industrielle selon l'invention seront décrits ci-après à l'aide des dessins schématiques des figures 2, 3A-3C.The industrial binding process and installation according to the invention will be described below using the schematic drawings of Figures 2, 3A-3C.
According to Figure 2, the industrial binding installation for the production of binding such as that made with the cover above, consists of a
The gluing station is equipped with a
In this tilting station, each
