Definitions
- the invention relates to a closure for containers with a guarantee ring on its underside, which carries on its inner wall inwardly projecting barbs which cause the separation of the guarantee ring from the closure body, each of which causes the wedging of the relevant barb on the container and one to the latter as well as Have the underside inclined to the inner wall of the guarantee ring.
- These barbs are located below the container mouth when the closure is attached, which usually has a larger diameter than the adjacent container neck. Its free end, ie its tip, is at a distance from the longitudinal central axis of the container and thus also of the closure, which is smaller than the radius of the container mouth mentioned. When the closure is lifted off, these barbs are placed against the underside of the container mouth, as a result of which the guarantee ring, which is connected to the actual closure body via thin webs, is separated from the latter. The first opening of the closure is thus indicated.
- Barbs of this type are already known from numerous publications, e.g. from FR-A 2439138 and from EP-A-0154603.
- the barbs are designed as individual projections distributed over the circumference of the guarantee ring; however, an annular barb has also been proposed which extends over the entire circumference.
- Both the top of the barbs and the bottom have a certain inclination to the inner wall of the guarantee ring, from which they protrude.
- the angle is relatively large, usually between 50-60 °.
- the top can also have an even larger angle, up to 90 °.
- the underside of the barbs known from EP-A-0154603 has a smaller angle of approximately 30 °.
- EP-A-0154603 shows protrusions which perform the same function as the barbs according to the present invention. They also have a wedging of the respective barb on the container i tart leading top and to this as well as to the inner wall of the security ring inclined underside. But they are designed as segment-like projections. Since the radius of the protrusions protruding in an arc from the inner wall towards the central axis of the closure is approximately equal to the radius of the inner wall itself, each protrusion becomes rather wide and, due to its concentration of closure material, is relatively inelastic. However, this creates problems when the closures are placed on the containers. The barbs have to slide over the container mouth, which has a larger diameter, and they lie closely against the inner wall of the guarantee ring.
- each barb is provided with at least one sliding wedge which is narrower than the barb itself and which extends from the lower edge of the guarantee ring to the rounded tip of the barb formed by the two sides mentioned
- the new embodiment of the barbs according to the invention thus achieves both an improvement in the properties of the closure with regard to the mechanical placement thereof and an increase in the barb effect when unscrewing. It should also be noted that the new form of the closure does not involve any complications and thus increases the cost of the manufacturing process by means of injection molding; a combination of properties that was not immediately apparent to the person skilled in the art.
- closure body 1 with the closure body, 2 with the guarantee ring connected to it via webs 3.
- webs 3 On its inner wall 4, several, mostly three barbs evenly distributed over a part of the circumference, of which only one barb 5 is shown in the figures.
- This has an underside 6 inclined upwards from the inner wall 4 and a horizontal upper side 7.
- closure body 1, guarantee ring 2, webs 3 and barbs 5 form a piece which is produced in one injection step.
- an inlet or sliding wedge 8 is arranged in the middle of the barb 5. This extends obliquely upwards from the lower edge 9 of the guarantee ring 2 and runs tangentially into the rounding or tip 10 of the barb 5.
- the angle a at which its sliding surface 11 is inclined to the vertical inner wall 4 of the guarantee ring 2, is preferably 31 °; this value resulted from tests and represents an optimum. This optimum even determines the distance a of the tip 10 of the barb 5 from the inner wall 4; How far this barb can protrude from the inner wall 4 depends on the one hand on the angle mentioned and then also on the height of the barb 5 above the lower edge 9 of the guarantee ring 2.
- the tip 10 must protrude so far that the Barb 5 still performs its function. It must therefore be located within the profile of the container mouth or, in other words, closer to the longitudinal central axis A shown in FIG. 1 than the wall of the container mouth, because it must lie on its underside when the closure is lifted off.
- sliding wedge 8 there is expediently only one sliding wedge 8 per barb 5, which consequently is symmetrical, i.e. is arranged in the middle of the latter, as shown in Figure 2.
- a sliding wedge is usually sufficient, and secondly, it must always be ensured that as little material as possible is used to manufacture the closure, which is of crucial importance in the enormous quantities, even if the individual piece is only in very small quantities.
- the sliding wedge 8 must not lead to a substantial stiffening of the guarantee ring 2, since otherwise the risk of the faults already mentioned occurs again; despite the sliding wedges, the guarantee ring must also be able to expand elastically when it is put on.
- the sliding wedge starts exactly at the lower edge 9 of the guarantee ring 2 and not further out of the inner wall 4. Then, below these sliding wedges, the guarantee ring 2 would again have a purely cylindrical shape over its entire circumference, which would again lead to the faults already mentioned. The sliding wedges must therefore extend to the edge 9 so that they take effect immediately when the closure is put on.
- FIG. 3 shows a flat representation of a preferred embodiment of the plastic closure according to the invention with a guarantee ring.
- 21 denotes a cross-connection for the guarantee ring 2, which is interrupted at this point, which ring is also fastened to the above-mentioned interruption by means of the stronger web 22 on the closure 1.
- the interruption mentioned thus clearly acts as a "crack" or predetermined breaking point.
- the guarantee ring 2 which is known per se, it is not only separated from the closure body 1, but is also slit itself, so that it then hangs down in an inclined position and clearly indicates the first opening.
