Description

The invention relates to an acidic cleaner for surfaces made of aluminum or aluminum alloys containing peroxo compound and surfactant.

It is generally customary to clean surfaces made of aluminum or aluminum alloys to remove lubricants, aluminum flakes resulting from the deformation, and other contaminants by means of acidic or alkaline cleaners. Especially when manufacturing containers, such as cans, from aluminum or aluminum alloys, it is essential to carry out thorough cleaning after shaping and smoothing so that the conversion and varnish coating that is subsequently applied has the required adhesive power.

One form of cleaning surfaces made of aluminum or aluminum alloys uses acidic cleaners, which are usually used at a temperature of 50 to 80 ° C. A disadvantage of the use of such cleaners is that the corrosion attack, in particular on the heat exchanger surfaces and the transport devices of the cleaning device, is considerable.

To reduce the corrosion attack, cleaners have been used that also contain chromic acid or chromate. They could not prevail because the use of chromium VI-containing cleaners problems such. B. poses regarding workplace hygiene and wastewater treatment.

Another way was therefore to design cleaners which contain iron III ions to reduce the corrosion attack on the cleaning device [EP-A-18 09 08]. This route also proved unsatisfactory, since rust formed on the outer walls of the cleaning devices and the device made a dirty and unkempt impression. Particularly when treating containers for drinks, for example, particularly clean and well-kept cleaning devices are expected for hygienic reasons.

Finally, acidic cleaners for surfaces made of aluminum and aluminum alloys which contain peroxo compounds and surfactant are also known (US Pat. Nos. 3,140,203, 3,634,262, 3,692,583). However, they are also not able to meet all the requirements placed on cleaners, in particular water wettability, cleaning ability, low metal removal, avoidance of contaminants on the cleaning device.

The object of the invention is to provide an acidic cleaner for surfaces made of aluminum and aluminum alloys, which does not have the disadvantages of the known, in particular the above-mentioned cleaners, meets all the usual requirements for cleaners and is also attractive from an economic point of view.

The task is solved by the cleaner of the is initially formulated according to the invention in such a way that it contains 0.05 to 10 g / l peroxo compound, at least one mineral acid from the group consisting of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and nitric acid as a surfactant and alkyldimethylamine oxide with 12 to 22 carbon atoms in the alkyl group and has a maximum pH of 2.0.

Geeignete Peroxoverbindungen sind z. B. Peroxoschwefelsäure oder deren saure oder neutrale Salze, wie Ammonium-, Kalium- oder Natriumperoxosulfat, Peroxodischwefelsäure oder deren Salze, wie Ammonium-, Kalium- oder Natriumperoxodisulfat, Peroxoborsäure oder deren Salze, wie Ammonium-, Kalium-, Natrium-, Magnesium- oder Lithiumperoxoborat, Peroxophosphorsäure, Peroxodiphosphorsäure, Peroxomolybdänsäure oder deren Salze.Suitable peroxo compounds are e.g. B. peroxosulfuric acid or its acidic or neutral salts, such as ammonium, potassium or sodium peroxosulfate, peroxodisulfuric acid or its salts, such as ammonium, potassium or sodium peroxodisulfate, peroxoboric acid or its salts, such as ammonium, potassium, sodium, magnesium or lithium peroxoborate, peroxophosphoric acid, peroxodiphosphoric acid, peroxomolybdic acid or their salts.

The advantage of using peroxo compounds of the aforementioned type is that the compounds which arise after their actual function as an oxidizing agent after decomposition are effective in acidic cleaner as a builder.

Figure imgb0001
Alkyldimethylamine oxide with 12 to 22 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, which according to a preferred embodiment of the invention is present in an amount of 0.05 to 2.0 g / l in the acidic cleaner, is particularly advantageous. It has the general formula below
Figure imgb0001

In addition to the aforementioned surfactant, the acidic cleaner according to the invention can contain further surfactants, which can be anionic, cationic or nonionic in nature. However, the total concentration should not exceed 10 g / l.

According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, a cleaner is used whose pH is in the range from 0.6 to 2.0. The cleaning effect is optimal under these conditions.

Further preferred embodiments of the invention provide for the formulation of an acidic cleaner which additionally contains fluoride, preferably in an amount of 0.005 to 0.5 g / l. Concentrations below the lower limit mentioned have only little effect. Concentrations above the upper limit increase the pickling rate, but then special precautions with regard to the nature of the workplace and waste water disposal are inevitable.

If necessary, the cleaner can contain chelating agents such as citric acid, tartaric acid or oxalic acid.

Besonders günstig sind Temperaturen im Bereich von 45 bis 70°C.The heron is used in a manner known per se. For example, contact with the surface to be cleaned can take place in dipping or spraying. The duration of treatment should be chosen so long that there is complete wetting. It essentially depends on the degree of contamination. Generally 10 to 120 seconds are sufficient. The treatment temperature can range from room temperature to approx. 80 ° C. Temperatures in the range from 45 to 70 ° C. are particularly favorable.

The surfaces of aluminum or aluminum alloys cleaned by the method according to the invention can, if necessary, be provided with a chemical conversion coating and, if appropriate, subsequently with a lacquer.

The cleaner according to the invention is distinguished by an excellent cleaning action. It has the further advantage that it is free of chromium VI and iron III ions, so that there is no pollution of the workplace and expensive wastewater treatment is unnecessary. In addition, the corrosion of the cleaning system is reduced to a minimum.

The invention is explained in more detail and, for example, using the following examples, which are summarized in a table.
